  • Multi-view video is obtained by capturing one three-dimensional scene with many cameras at different positions. Multi-view video coding exploits inter-view correlations among pictures of neighboring views and temporal correlations among pictures of the same view. Multi-view video coding which uses many cameras requires a method to reduce the computational complexity. In this paper, we proposed an efficient prediction structure to improve performance of multi-view video coding. The proposed prediction structure exploits an average distance between the current picture and its reference pictures. The proposed prediction structure divides every GOP into several small groups to decide the maximum index of hierarchical B layer and the number of pictures of each B layer. Experimental results show that the proposed prediction structure shows good performance in image quality and bit-rates. When compared to the performance of hierarchical B pictures of Fraunhofer-HHI, the proposed prediction structure achieved 0.07~0.13 (dB) of PSNR gain and was down by 6.5(Kbps) in bitrate.

  • In this study, we investigated the rotational characteristics which were comprised of directionality and linearity of target registration error (TRE) as a study in advance to enhance the accuracy of contour-based registration in neuronavigation. For the experiment, two rigid head phantoms that have different faces with specially designed target frame fixed inside of the phantoms were used. Three-dimensional coordinates of facial surface point cloud and target point of the phantoms were acquired using computed tomography (CT) and 3D scanner. Iterative closest point (ICP) method was used for registration of two different point cloud and the directionality and linearity of TRE in overall head were calculated by using 3D position of targets after registration. As a result, it was represented that TRE had consistent direction in overall head region and was increased in linear fashion as distance from facial surface, but did not show high linearity. These results indicated that it is possible for decrease TRE by controlling orientation of facial surface point cloud acquired from scanner, and the prediction of TRE from surface registration error can decrease the registration accuracy in lesion. In the further studies, we have to develop the contour-based registration method for improvement of accuracy by considering rotational characteristics of TRE.

  • In this study, we perform the structural analysis of a floating offshore wind turbine tower by considering the dynamic response of the floating platform. A multibody system consisting of three blades, a hub, a nacelle, the platform, and the tower is used to model the floating wind turbine. The blades and the tower are modeled as flexible bodies using three-dimensional beam elements. The aerodynamic force on the blades is calculated by the Blade Element Momentum (BEM) theory with hub rotation. The hydrostatic, hydrodynamic, and mooring forces are considered for the platform. The structural dynamic responses of the tower are simulated by numerically solving the equations of motion. From the simulation results, the time history of the internal forces at the nodes, such as the bending moment and stress, are obtained. In conclusion, the internal forces are compared with those obtained from static analysis to assess the effects of wave loads on the structural stability of the tower.

  • This study describes how the illustration book of Korean coastal and offshore fishing boats was published. The illustration book provides information on fisheries which need boats for their fishing operation. The book contains 25 fishing boats belonging to 15 offshore fisheries and six boats belonging to five coastal fisheries totalling 31 boats belonging to 20 kinds of fisheries. Until now, no books were available in Korea on fishing boats which provided illustrated descriptions of their use in fishing. We carried out field and literature surveys of fishing boats for three years (2016-2018) and the results were compiled into three-dimensional modeling images with schematic drawings of fishing boats, along with text explanations. The particulars and technical drawings of lines, general arrangement (GA), fishing gears and methods are collected and summarized. All fishing boats are modeled with 3D color graphics. The particulars and names of the main items of the fishing equipment are presented besides structural parts. In addition the fishing gear, fishing season and grounds, number of crews and target species for each boat are correctly described. The illustration book of Korean coastal and offshore fishing boats will contribute to understanding the current status of fishing techniques in Korea and will assist in developing new types of fishing boats.

  • A computational study on the supersonic flow around the lateral jet controlled missile has been performed. For this purpose a three dimensional Navier-Stokes computer code(AADL3D) has been developed and case studies have been performed by comparing the normal force coefficient and the moment coefficient of a missile body for several parameters such as angles of attack, circumferential jet positions, and spouting jet angles. Missile surface is divided into four regions with respect to the center of gravity, and the normal force and moment distribution at each region are compared. The results show different behavior of the normal force and moment variation according to each parameter. Furthermore, it is shown that the pitching moment can be minimized through proper combination of each parameter.

  • Purpose: The aim of this study was to observe the bony change in the OVX rat longitudinally and to study the alendronate effect. Materials and Methods: Eighteen Sprague-Dewley rats, eight-week old each, were randomly assigned into three groups: one of those sham-operated (N=4), the other two were OVX: saline-treated (N=7) and alendronate-treated group (N=7). The saline-treated group was administered with saline solution (0.1mL/100g) daily, while the alendronate-treated group was given alendronate (1mg/kg, Sigma-Aldrich Corp. Korea) daily. Micro-CT scannings of the lumbar were consecutively done at baseline, at 3-week intervals during 9 weeks. Two and three dimensional bony analysis were done. Bone mineral density (BMD) was measured with Piximus (GE Lunar Co. USA). The average values of these three methods were compared with each group. Results: After 6 weeks the BMD of the OVX group showed lower tendency than that of sham group. After 6 weeks many 3D parameters of micro-CT showed higher values in the OVX-alendronate group compared with the OVXsaline group. Most 2D bony parameters were higher in the OVX-alendronate group compared with the OVX-saline group at 9 weeks. Conclusion: This study showed low BMD of the OVX group after 6 weeks and showed the effect of alendronate on the BMD and bony structures of ovariectomized rats. This study also showed usefulness of in vivo micro-CT in monitoring individual bone changes over time.

  • Harmonic band of bandpass filter(BPF) is suppressed using coupled mushroom structure. Between double positive (DPS) transmission line such as microstrip and double negative(DNG) transmission line such as one dimensional mushroom structure, strong coupling broadly arises in the cross range of dispersion curves of isolated microstrip and mushroom structure because of complex propagation constant in the cross range. Strong coupling inhibits wave propagation, so that this kind of structure can be utilized as bandstop filter(BSF). This BSF utilizes coupled transmission line instead of coupled resonator, resulting in broad bandwidth(>30 %), shan-rejection, and high rejection level. The strong coupling between DPS and DNG transmissionline makes it possible shorten coupling length, resulting in compact size. In this paper, parallel coupled BSF having center frequency of 4 GHz and 3 dB fractional bandwidth of 40 % is designed and utilized to suppressed spurious mode of two bandpass filters.

  • The restoration of archaeological data was carried out using photographs and drawings left as past records. It can be divided into ruins and artifacts. The restoration of the ruins was performed by modeling the individual parts and parts left by the photographs, aligning them and synthesizing them, and reconstructing them three-dimensionally as one object. Restoration of artifacts was performed on both photographs and drawings. After the modeling work is prioritized through the photographs, there is a method of restoring the original image by modifying the texture image of the damaged part of the modeled artifact, or restoring the original image by modeling and synthesizing the deleted part in the artifact. The restoration of the artifacts through the drawings was carried out by three - dimensional modeling and reconstruction through real mapping of images. The reconstructed archaeological data can be used in various directions. In particular, it is possible to verify and compare the results of the numerical analysis and interpretation of the past 2D data, and to provide a more accurate analysis plan in the future.

  • Generating a 3D surface model from coronary artery segmentation helps to not only improve the rendering efficiency but also the diagnostic accuracy by providing physiological informations such as fractional flow reserve using computational fluid dynamics (CFD). This paper proposes a method to generate a triangular surface mesh using vessel structure information acquired with coronary artery segmentation. The marching cube algorithm is a typical method for generating a triangular surface mesh from a segmentation result as bit mask. But it is difficult for methods based on marching cube algorithm to express the lumen of thin, small and winding vessels because the algorithm only works in a three-dimensional (3D) discrete space. The proposed method generates a more accurate triangular surface mesh for each singular vessel using vessel centerlines, normal vectors and lumen diameters estimated during the process of coronary artery segmentation as the input. Then, the meshes that are overlapped due to branching are processed by mesh merging and merged into a coronary mesh.

  • Purpose: Traditionally, three-dimensional conformal radiation therapy (3D-CRT) is used for neoadjuvant chemoradiation in locally advanced rectal cancer. Intensity-modulated radiation therapy (IMRT) was later developed for more conformal dose distribution, with the potential for reduced toxicity across many disease sites. We sought to use the National Cancer Database (NCDB) to examine trends and predictors for IMRT use in rectal cancer. Materials and Methods: We queried the NCDB from 2004 to 2015 for patients with rectal adenocarcinoma treated with neoadjuvant concurrent chemoradiation to standard doses followed by surgical resection. Odds ratios were used to determine predictors of IMRT use. Univariable and multivariable Cox regressions were used to determine potential predictors of overall survival (OS). Propensity matching was used to account for any indication bias. Results: Among 21,490 eligible patients, 3,131 were treated with IMRT. IMRT use increased from 1% in 2004 to 22% in 2014. Predictors for IMRT use included increased N stage, higher comorbidity score, more recent year, treatment at an academic facility, increased income, and higher educational level. On propensity-adjusted, multivariable analysis, male gender, increased distance to facility, higher comorbidity score, IMRT technique, government insurance, African-American race, and non-metro location were predictive of worse OS. Of note, the complete response rate at time of surgery was 28% with non-IMRT and 21% with IMRT. Conclusion: IMRT use has steadily increased in the treatment of rectal cancer, but still remains only a fraction of overall treatment technique, more often reserved for higher disease burden.
