  • A three-dimensional (3D) segmentation and model reconstruction is a specialized tool to reveal spatial interrelationship between multiple internal organs by generating images without overlapping structures. This technique can also be applicable to mummy studies, but related reports have so far been very rare. In this study, we applied 3D segmentation and model reconstruction to computed tomography images of a Korean mummy with congenital diaphragmatic hernia. As originally revealed by the autopsy in 2013, the current 3D reconstruction reveals that the mummy's heart is shifted to the left due to the liver pushing up to thoracic cavity thorough diaphragmatic hernial defect. We can generate 3D images by calling up the data exclusively from mummy's target organs, thus minimizing the confusion of diagnosis that could be caused by overlapping organs.

  • In the midst of disaster, such as an earthquake or a nuclear radiation exposure area, there are huge risks to send human crews. Many robotic researchers have studied to send UGVs in order to replace human crews at dangerous environments. So far, two-dimensional camera information has been widely used for teleoperation of UGVs. Recently, three-dimensional information based teleoperations are attempted to compensate the limitations of camera information based teleoperation. In this paper, the 3D map information of indoor and outdoor environments reconstructed in real-time is utilized in the UGV teleoperation. Further, we apply the LTE communication technology to endure the stability of the teleoperation even under the deteriorate environment. The proposed teleoperation system is performed at explosive disposal missions and their feasibilities could be verified through completion of that missions using the UGV with the Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) team of Busan Port Security Corporation.

  • For improving interoperability of medical information, health level 7 has initiated the development of a next-generation framework for the exchange of medical information called the Fast health interoperability resources (FHIR). However, there was no attempt to exchange the medical three-dimensional (3D) image with clinical data via FHIR. Thus, we designed a new method. The 3D image to be made from computed tomography was converted to the javascript object notation (JSON) file format, and clinical data was added. We made a test FHIR server, and the client used the postman. The JSON file was attached to the body, and was then transmitted. The transmitted 3D image could be seen through a web browser, and attached clinical data was identified in the source code. This is the first attempt to exchange the medical 3D image. Additional researches will be needed to develop applications or FHIR resources that apply this method.

  • In this paper, the research results on monolithic three-dimensional integrated-circuit (M3DICs) stacked with tunneling field effect transistors (TFETs) are introduced. Unlike metal-oxide-semiconductor field-effect transistors (MOSFETs), TFETs are designed differently from the layout of symmetrical MOSFETs because the source and drain of TFET are asymmetrical. Various monolithic 3D inverter (M3D-INV) structures and layouts are possible due to the asymmetric structure, and among them, a simple inverter structure with the minimum metal layer is proposed. Using the proposed M3D-INV, this M3D logic gates such as NAND and NOR gates by sequentially stacking TFETs are proposed, respectively. The simulation results of voltage transfer characteristics of the proposed M3D logic gates are investigated using mixed-mode simulator of technology computer aided design (TCAD), and the operation of each logic circuit is verified. The cell area for each M3D logic gate is reduced by about 50% compared to one for the two-dimensional planar logic gates.

  • This paper considers the object tracking problem in three dimensional (3-D) space when the azimuth and elevation of the object are available from the passive acoustic sensor. The particle filtering technique can be directly applied to estimate the 3-D object location, but we propose to decompose the 3-D particle filter into the three planes' particle filters, which are individually designed for the 2-D bearings-only tracking problems. 2-D bearing information is derived from the azimuth and elevation of the object to be used for the 2-D particle filter. Two estimates of three planes' particle filters are selected based on the characterization of the acoustic sensor operation in a noisy environment. The Cramer-Rao Lower Bound of the proposed 2-D particle filter-based algorithm is derived and compared against the algorithm that is based on the direct 3-D particle filter.

  • WebChemDB is an integrated chemical database retrieval system that provides access to over 8 million publicly available chemical structures, including related information on their biological activities and direct links to other public chemical resources, such as PubChem, ChEBI, and DrugBank. The data are publicly available over the web, using two-dimensional (2D) and three-dimensional (3D) structure retrieval systems with various filters and molecular descriptors. The web services API also provides researchers with functionalities to programmatically manipulate, search, and analyze the data.

  • Three-dimensional structures of unsteady detonation wave propagating through a square-shaped tube is studied using computational method and parallel processing. Inviscid fluid dynamics equations coupled with variable-${\gamma}$ formulation and simplified one-step Arrhenius chemical reaction model were analysed by a MUSCL-type TVD scheme and four stage Runge-Kutta time integration. Results in three dimension show the two unsteady detonation wave propagating mode, the Rectangular and diagonal mode of detonation wave instabilities. Two different modes of instability showed the same cell length but different cell width and the geometric similarities in smoked-foil record.

  • In this paper, we present a new interpolation algorithm for three-dimensional images. Generally, Image interpolation is carried out along the three orthogonal coordinates. However, such a interpolation algorithm along orthogonal coordinates do not utilize the contour of 3 dimensional objects. In this paper, we propose a new directional interpolation algorithm that searches the best interpolation direction for 3-dimensional objects. Experiments with brain MR images show promising results.

  • Scene graph is a kind of knowledge graph that represents both objects and their relationships found in a image. This paper proposes a 3D scene graph generation model for three-dimensional indoor environments. An 3D scene graph includes not only object types, their positions and attributes, but also three-dimensional spatial relationships between them, An 3D scene graph can be viewed as a prior knowledge base describing the given environment within that the agent will be deployed later. Therefore, 3D scene graphs can be used in many useful applications, such as visual question answering (VQA) and service robots. This proposed 3D scene graph generation model consists of four sub-networks: object detection network (ObjNet), attribute prediction network (AttNet), transfer network (TransNet), relationship prediction network (RelNet). Conducting several experiments with 3D simulated indoor environments provided by AI2-THOR, we confirmed that the proposed model shows high performance.
