  • In a three-dimensional topological insulator Bi2Se3, a stress control for band gap manipulation was predicted but no systematic investigation has been performed yet due to the requirement of large external stress. We report herein on the strain-dependent results for Bi2Se3 films of various thicknesses that are grown via a self-organized ordering process. Using small angle X-ray scattering and Raman spectroscopy, the changes of d-spacings in the crystal structure and phonon vibration shifts resulted from stress are clearly observed when the film thickness is below ten quintuple layers. From the UV photoemission/inverse photoemission spectroscopy (UPS/IPES) results and ab initio calculations, significant changes of the Fermi level and band gap were observed. The deformed band structure also exhibits a Van Hove singularity at specific energies in the UV absorption experiment and ab initio calculations. Our results, including the synthesis of a strained ultrathin topological insulator, suggest a new direction for electronic and spintronic applications for the future.

  • The aim of this paper is to research the change in the turbulent flow and the AOA occurred by the wind perpendicular to the direction of runway according to the three-dimensional numerical analysis. The maximum amplitude of AOA variation on runway reached $6^{\circ}$ within 1 second because of the wake formed by the constructions in the vicinity of the airport. The overall effects appeared in aperiodic forms. It was also observed the rapid flow generated between the buildings shifted into the existing wake and eventually merged with it. It is expected thai the strong wake will cause instability during takeoff and landing.

  • A simulation for the design of a $90^{\circ}$ differential phase shifter aimed toward Korean VLBI Network (KVN) 129 GHz band polarizer is described in this paper. A dual-circular polarizer for KVN 129 GHz band consists of a $90^{\circ}$ differential phase shifter and an orthomode transducer. The differential phase shifter is made up of a square waveguide with two opposite walls loaded with corrugations. Three-dimensional electromagnetic simulation has been performed to predict the $90^{\circ}$ differential phase shifter's characteristics. The simulation for the differential phase shifter shows that the phase shift is $90^{\circ}{\pm}3.3^{\circ}$ across 108-160 GHz and the return losses of two orthogonal modes are better than -30 dB within the design frequency band. According to the simulation results the calculated performance is quite encouraging for KVN 129 GHz band application.

  • In this paper, the inelastic behavior of an asymmetric tall building is investigated. The asymmetry in rigidity caused by the structural asymmetry induces torsional as well as lateral deformation. The inelastic analysis of such an asymmetric structure is difficult to carry out with a planar model and thus requires a full three dimensional model. In this paper a 102 story unsymmetric tall building is analized by static push-over procedure and its behavior is investigated. The analysis are performed with and without floor rotation to compare the results. According to the results the static behavior of the model building, as expected, turned out to be dependent heavily an the asymmetry of the plan shapes of the building.

  • We present a sequential factorization method using singular value decomposition (SVD) for recovering both the three-dimensional shape of an object and the motion of camera from a sequence of images. We employ paraperpective projection [6] for camera model to handle significant translational motion toward the camera or across the image. The proposed mthod not only quickly gives robust and accurate results, but also provides results at each frame becauseit is a sequential method. These properties make our method practically applicable to real time applications. Considerable research has been devoted to the problem of recovering motion and shape of object from image [2] [3] [4] [5] [6] [7] [8] [9]. Among many different approaches, we adopt a factorization method using SVD because of its robustness and computational efficiency. The factorization method based on batch-type computation, originally proposed by Tomasi and Kanade [1] proposed the feature trajectory information using singular value decomposition (SVD). Morita and Kanade [10] have extenened [1] to asequential type solution. However, Both methods used an orthographic projection and they cannot be applied to image sequences containing significant translational motion toward the camera or across the image. Poleman and Kanade [11] have developed a batch-type factorization method using paraperspective camera model is a sueful technique, the method cannot be employed for real-time applications because it is based on batch-type computation. This work presents a sequential factorization methodusing SVD for paraperspective projection. Initial experimental results show that the performance of our method is almost equivalent to that of [11] although it is sequential.

  • This paper proposes a new hybrid anti-aliasing method for reducing aliasing appearing on an implicit surface using the point sampling. The hybrid anti-aliasing method is a method that finds differences in the values of pixel shown in Z-buffers for an implicit surface and thereby uses each of three types of Z-buffer. After determining the level of differences, it expresses a 3 dimensional object by using a multi Z-buffer if the level is severe, a double Z-buffer for a middle level, and only the original Z-buffer for a negligible difference. In comparison with the existing method in which multi Z-buffers have been entirely used for enhancing the anti-aliasing effect, the hybrid anti-aliasing method is an efficient method demonstrating an effect similar to the one using a multi Z-buffer while reducing the number of Z-buffers to be used.

  • Nowadays 3D terrestrial laser scanners record high precision three-dimensional coordinates of numerous points on an object surface in a short period of time. So terrestrial laser scanner is applied to a wide variety of fields including geodesy, and civil engineering, archaeology and architecture, and emergency service and defence, etc. This study deals with the potential application of terrestrial laser scanner in the reconnaissance surveying. The results shows that terrestrial laser scanner is possible to extract the linear features and the positioning accuracy of objects measured by total station surveying is comparative to that by terrestrial laser scanner. Thereafter, it is expected that the potential applications of terrestrial laser scanning will be more increased by combining terrestrial laser scanners with airborne LiDAR (Light Detection And Ranging) and photogrammetric technology.

  • Magnetic resonance thermometry (MRT) is a technique capable of measuring three-dimensional mean temperature fields by utilizing temperature-dependent shifts in proton resonance frequency. In this study, experimental verification of the technique is obtained by measuring 3D temperature fields within fully developed turbulent pipe flow, using 3T and 7T MRI scanners. The effect of the proton resonance frequency (PRF) thermal constant is examined in detail.

  • To find out the locus of the Quinling-Dabie-Sulu continental collision’s boundary and to estimate underground structure of the sedimentray basin in the Yellow Sea, three dimensional density modelling is carrid out by using gravity dataset (Free Air Anomaly), which is measured by Tamhae 2, KIGAM in a period between 2000 and 2002. The measured gravity anomaly in the investigations area is mainly responsed by depth and density differences between the sedimentary basin and the basement. The high density model-bodies extend mainly from the southern part of China to the middle-western part of the Korean Peninsula, which might be emplaced along the continental collision’s boundary. The total volume of the very low density model-bodies might be expected at about 20,000 km3 in the model area.

  • This paper deals with a method of aligning an aircraft fuselage and an inertial navigation sensor using three-dimensional coordinates obtained by an optical method. In order to verify the feasibility, we introduce the method to accurately align the coordinate system of the inertial navigation sensor and the aircraft reference coordinate system. It is verified through simulation that reflects the error level of the measuring device. In addition, optimization method based alignment algorithm is proposed for connection between optical sensor and inertial navigation sensor.
