Effect of Mo addition on the Creep Properties of 9Cr-3W Steel (9Cr-3W 강의 크리프 특성에 미치는 Mo 첨가의 영향)

  • The effect of the Mo addition on the high temperature creep properties of the 9Cr-3W steel was also evaluated. Two experimental steels, (9Cr-3W and 9Cr-3W-0.5Mo), were prepared using a vacuum induction melting process, followed by hot rolling and heat treatment processes. Three types of precipitates, ($M_{23}C_6$, Nb-rich MX and V-rich MX) were observed in a typical tempered martensitic matrix. Significant effects of the Mo addition on the tensile properties were not observed. However, the creep properties at $650^{\circ}C$ under applied stresses of 140 and 150 MPa were considerably enhanced by the Mo addition. The microstructural observation after the creep test indicated that the addition of Mo could function to retain the recovery of the martensitic matrix, thus resulting in the enhanced creep properties of the 9Cr-3W-0.5Mo steel. Furthermore coarsening of the $M_{23}C_6$ carbides and formation of Laves phases were observed in both samples after the creep tests.

  • Oxidation of $[Mo_3O_4(C_2O_4)_3(H_2O)_3]^{2-}$ with HCr$O_4^-$ yields the molybdenum(Ⅳ) complex, $[Mo_2O_5(C_2O_4)_2(H_2O)_2]^{2-}$. Stoichiometry for the reaction of $[Mo_3O_4(C_2O_4)_3(H_2O)_3]^{2-}$ with HCr$O_4^-$ are expressed as $2Mo_3^{IV} + 4Cr^{VI} {\to} 3Mo_2^{VI} + 4Cr^{III}$. Observed rate constants are dependent on hydrogen ion concentration. The kinetic data are consistent with a mechanism in which three successive single-electron steps convert $Cr^{VI}$to $Cr^{III}$ by way of intermediate $Cr^V$ and $Cr^{IV}$. Detailed mechanisms are presented and discussed.

Surface Analysis of Ni-Cr and Co-Cr Alloys with Addition of Ti and Mo for Dental CAD/CAM Use (Ti 및 Mo 첨가에 따른 치과 CAD/CAM용 Ni-Cr 및 Co-Cr합금의 표면분석)

  • In this study, surface analysis of Ni-Cr and Co-Cr alloys with addition of Ti and Mo for dental CAD/CAM use has been researched experimentally. The surface characteristics of the alloys were examined by Vickers hardness test, bonding strength test, surface roughness test, field-emission scanning electron microscopy, energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy, and X-ray diffraction spectroscopy. The shrinkage of the sintered Ni-Cr alloy alloy was slightly larger than that of Ni-Cr-Ti alloy, and larger than Co-Cr alloy. Also, the addition of Mo showed a tendency to decrease shrinkage somewhat. From the result of XRD analysis, NiCr, $Ni_3Cr$ and $Ni_3Ti$ were observed in the sintered Ni-13Cr-xTi and Ni-13Cr-xMo alloys. In addition, ${\sigma}-CrCo$, $Co_2Mo_3$ and $TiCo_2$ were formed in the sintered Co-Cr-xTi and Co-Cr-xMo alloys. Surface hardness of Ti and Mo added alloy was higher than those of Ni-Cr and Co-Cr alloy. The bond strength between sintered alloy and porcelain was $16.1kgf/mm^2$ for Ni-13Cr alloy, $17.8kgf/mm^2$ for Ni-13Cr-5Ti alloy, and $8.2kgf/mm^2$ for Ni-13Cr-10Ti alloy, respectively.

  • This C-ring test, normally employed for evaluating susceptibility to stress-corrosion cracking, was determined to be a suitable small scale test to evaluate PWHT(Post-Weld Heat Treatment) cracking susceptibility. This test is possible to incorporate an actual weld, to introduce a notch into the coarse grained HAZ(Heat Affected Zone), to load the coarse grained HAZ any level of stress ad, most importantly, since the C-ring is an approximately constant strain type test, the stress decreases with time at temperature in a manner similar to that of an actual steel weldment. The procedure employed in making the C-ring was presented in the experimental procedure section, however, several points deserve further discussion. The walls of the weld groove are made along radial lines form the center of th var in order to obtain an HAZ which is oriented perpendicular to the walls of the machined C-ring. Therefore, the plane of maximum stress will be aligned through the HAZ and, therefore, crack propagation will not be forced to deviate form the plane of maximum stress in order to remain in the coarse grained HAZ as is the case with the Y groove test.

Magnetic Properties in Alternating Magnetic Field for the Sintered Ee-l7Cr-2M(M=Si, Nb, Mo) Alloys (Fe-l7Cr-2M(M=Si, Nb, Mo)합금 분말 소결체의 교류 자기 특성)

  • Fe-l7Cr-2M(M=Si, Nb, Mo) alloy powder was prepared by plasma electrode rotating atomizer and than the alloy powder was formed and sintered. The particle shape of the Fe-l7Cr-2M(M=Si, Nb, Mo) alloy power is spherical. The saturation magnetization of the sintered Fe-17Cr-2Mo and Fe-l7Cr-2Nb alloy are 155 emu/g. The saturation magnetization of the sintered Fe-l7Cr-2Si alloy is less than that of the sintered Fe-l7Cr-2Mo and Fe-l7Cr-2Nb alloy. The amplitude relative permeability of the sintered Fe-l7Cr-2M(M=Si, Nb, Mo) alloy has the maximum value in the range of 3∼5 Oe applied field at forming pressure 12 ton/cm$^2$, sintering temperature 1200$^{\circ}C$, and frequency 1 kHz. Power loss of the sintered Fe-l7Cr-2Nb alloy is 40 mW/cc at applied field, H$\sub$a/=5 Oe, and frequency, f=1 kHz. The power loss of the sintered Fe-l7Cr-2Nb alloy is a half of that of the sintered Fe-l7Cr-2Si and Fe-l7Cr-2Mo alloy.

A Study on the Correlation between Advanced Small Punch Test and Charpy V-notch Test on X20CrMoV121 and 2.25Cr1Mo steels Weldment (X20CrMoV121강과 2.25Cr1Mo강 용접부의 ASP 시험과 CVN 충격 시험의 상관관계에 대한 연구)

  • Charpy V-Notch test is commonly used to evaluate fracture toughness. However, since the region to be evaluated is limited to bulk material due to the specimen size required, individual evaluation of micro-structures on weldment is very difficult. In this study, ASP(Advanced Small Punch) test was carried out to evaluate material degradation and fracture toughness on the B.M, W.M and each micro-structures of HAZ for X20CrMoV121 and 2.25Cr1Mo steels with artificial aging time. In addition, to evaluate fracture toughness and material degradation of B.M and W.M of X20CrMoV121 steels with aging times, CVN (Charpy V-notch) test was performed. And then the correlation between ASP and CVN test on X20CrMoV121 steels was obtained. Furthermore, through this correlation, material degradation property of each micro-region of the HAZ in weldment, which was impossible to be evaluated by the CVN test, can be estimated and determined.

Study on the Improvement of Strength for 12% Chromium Steel Rotor (12% Cr 로터강의 강도 개선에 관한 연구)

  • To check technical improvement in the soundness and strength of 12% Cr steel rotor, a 25 tons of rotor with 65 tons of ingot was made in real size and was cut to pieces to take test samples, and the various mechanical tests such as impact, tensile, creep, and fatigue were carried out. The strengths are compared with those of 1% Cr-Mo-V rotor of same size. Microstructures of the samples are examined and reviewed. The results can be summarized as follows. 1) Fracture appearance transition temperatures are 80.deg. C at the center part and 60.deg. C near surface of 12% Cr rotor, and 8.deg. C near surface of 1% Cr-Mo-V rotor. 2) Comparative rapid softening occurs at higher temperatures above 600.deg. C for 12% Cr steel and 550.deg. C for 1% Cr-Mo-V steel in tension tests. 3) Fatigue crack propagation rate of 12% Cr steel is almost same as that of 1% Cr-Mo-V steel at the same corresponding surface part of the rotors. The crack growth rate of center part of 12% Cr rotor is faster than near surface part of the rotor, and the crack growth rate at the load condition of R=0.04 is slower than that of the load condition of R=0.5 for both 12% Cr steel and 1% Cr-Mo-V steel. 4) Crack growth rate of radial direction near surface of 12% Cr rotor is faster than that of transverse direction at the same part because of the difference in residual stresses. 5) Both creep and fatigue strengths of 12% Cr steel are superior to those of 1% Cr-Mo-V steel and the difference is thought the effect of climb and glide controlled creep by solid solution of alloying elements and dispersion of carbides.

  • 10%C-5%Mo-5%W-10%Cr 및 10%C-5%Mo-5%W-10%V 백주철의 응고거동을 열분석을 통하여 연구하였다. 15Kg 용량의 고주파 유도옹해로에 선철, 고철, Fe-Mo, Fe-W, Fe-Cr, Fe-V 등을 장입시켜 용해시킨 후 슬래그를 제거시키고 $1550^{\circ}C$에서 Y블럭의 펩 주형에 주입하였다. 응고거동을 조사하기 위하여 50g을 Y블럭에서 채취한 뒤 알루미나 도가니에 넣어 재용해시킨 후 1$0^{\circ}C$/min의 냉각속도로 냉각시키면서 여섯 종류의 다른 온도에서 도중에 급냉시켜 응고조직을 광학현미경으로 관찰하였다. 10%C-5%Mo-5%W-10%Cr 백주철의 경우 초정 오스테나이트, 오스테나이트와 M(sub)7C(sob)3의 공정, 오스테나이트와 M(sub)6C의 공정으로, 10%C-5%Mo-5%W-10%V 백주철의 경우 초정 MC, 오스테나이트와 MC의 공정, 오스테나이트와 M(sub)2C의 공정으로 각각 순차적으로 정출하였다. 정출하였다.

  • Amorphous $Fe_{68.5}Co_5M_3Cu_1Si_{13.5}B_9(M=Nb, Mo, Mn, Cr)$ alloys were prepared by using rapidly quenching techinque and were annealed above their crystallization temperatures. Coercive force, initial permeability and AC power loss of the annealed $Fe_{68.5}Co_5M_3Cu_1Si_{13.5}B_9(M=Nb, Mo, Mn, Cr)$ alloys have been studied systematically. Nanocrystallines are formed in the annealed alloys which include Mo and Nb. Remarkably improved soft magnetic properties are obtained in the alloys whose average grain size is around 10 nm. However, soft magnetic properties of the alloys are degraded when grain size is less than IOnm or larger than 15nm. It is considered that the degradation of soft magnetic properties in the alloys whose average grain size is less than 10 nm is due to the Fe-rich amorphous phase retained at grain boundary during the initial crystallization process.
