PEMFC 냉각 시스템의 물부식 방지에 관한 연구 (Study on Corrosion Problems in PEMFC Cooling System)

  • This study focuses on the corrosion problems of STS316(stainless steel 316) tube for the cooling system of PEMFC (Proton Exchange Membrane Fuel Cell) operation. Deionized water which is highly corrosive is used especially for cooling agent of PEMFC to eliminate electrical conductivity, The tensile stress analysis was performed to check the change of mechanical strength of cooling line and pH of the water was monitored for the observation of extent of corrosion at simulated PEMFC operating condition. When STS316 tube was exposed to deionized water for 500 hours, substantial cracks were found on the surface and the pH of water was decreased from 6.8 to 5.8. For prevention of corrosion problems, the STS316 was coated by three kinds of fluororesin such as PTFE, FEP and ETFE. Among the coating materials, PTFE was the most protective in corrosive environment and was maintained the mechanical strength. To lower the cost, the same experimental analyses were carried out for iron tubes and the result will be discussed in detail.

  • 금속 소재부품의 제조 형태가 복잡해지고 소비자의 요구가 다양함에 따라 금속 3D 프린팅 연구가 활발히 진행되고 있다. 본 연구에서는 우주 발사체의 엔진 연소 노즐 부품에 적용 가능한 스테인레스 316L계 금속을 3D 프린팅 방식으로 제조하고 이에 대한 기계적, 화학적 특성 상관 연구를 진행하였다. 금속 3D 프린팅 기술은 레이저원을 이용하여 분말을 급속 용융과 응고를 반복됨에 따라 기존의 주조 응고와는 다른 미세 조직 형태를 나타내고, 이에 따라 기계적 물성이 변화함을 관찰하였다. 특히 개재물의 존재에 따라 기계적 특성이 변화하고 공정 조건의 변화에 따라 기공의 형태 및 위치등이 변화하는 것을 확인하였다.

  • The corrosion damage of materials in marine environment mainly occurs by Cl- ions due to the breakdown of passive films. Additionally, various characteristics in seawater such as salinity, temperature, immersion time, flow rate, and biological activity also affect corrosion characteristics. In this study, the corrosion characteristics of stainless steels (STS 304 and STS 316L) and anodized aluminum alloys (AA 3003 and AA 6063) were evaluated with seawater temperature parameters. A potentiodynamic polarization experiment was conducted in a potential range of -0.25 V to 2.0 V at open circuit potential (OCP). Corrosion current density and corrosion potential were obtained through the Tafel extrapolation method to analyze changes in corrosion rate due to temperature. Corrosion behavior was evaluated by measuring weight loss before/after the experiment and also observing surface morphology through a scanning electronic microscope (SEM) and 3D microscopy. Weight loss, maximum damage depth and pitting damage increased as seawater temperature increased, and furthermore, the tendency of higher corrosion current density with an increase of temperature attributed to an increase in corrosion rate. There was lower pitting damage and lower corrosion current density for anodized aluminum alloys than for stainless steels as the temperature increased.

  • Austenitic stainless steels (ASS) are extensively employed in various sectors such as nuclear, power, petrochemical, oil and gas because of their excellent structural strength and resistance to corrosion. SS304 and SS316 are the predominant choices for piping, pressure vessels, heat exchangers, nuclear reactor core components and support structures, but they are susceptible to stress corrosion cracking (SCC) in chloride-rich environments. Over the course of several decades, extensive research efforts have been directed towards evaluating SCC using diverse methodologies and models, albeit some uncertainties persist regarding the precise progression of cracks. This review paper focuses on the application of Acoustic Emission Technique (AET) for assessing SCC damage mechanism by monitoring the dynamic acoustic emissions or inelastic stress waves generated during the initiation and propagation of cracks. AET serves as a valuable non-destructive technique (NDT) for in-service evaluation of the structural integrity within operational conditions and early detection of critical flaws. By leveraging the time domain and time-frequency domain techniques, various Acoustic Emission (AE) parameters can be characterized and correlated with the multi-stage crack damage phenomena. Further theories of the SCC mechanisms are elucidated, with a focus on both the dissolution-based and cleavage-based damage models. Through the comprehensive insights provided here, this review stands to contribute to an enhanced understanding of SCC damage in stainless steels and the potential AET application in nuclear industry.

열간압연 클래드강의 맞대기용접부 내식성 및 용접성 평가 (Evaluation of Corrosion Resistance and Weldability for the Butt Welding Zone of Hot Rolled Clad Steel Plates)

  • We have investigated the traits of clad metals in hot-rolled clad steel plates, including the sensitization and mechanical properties of STS 316 steel plate and carbon steel (A516), under various specific circumstances regarding post heat treatment, multilayered welds, and thick or repeated welds for repair. For evaluations, sectioned weldments and external surfaces were investigated to reveal the degree of sensitization by micro vickers hardness, tensile, and etching tests the results were compared with those of EPR tests. The clad steel plates were butt-welded using FCAW and SAW with the time of heat treatment as the variable, a that was conducted at $625^{\circ}C$, for 80, 160, 320, 640, and 1280 min. Then, the change in corrosion resistance was evaluated in these specimens. With carbon steel (A516), as the heat treatment time increased, the annealing effect caused the tensile strength to decrease. The micro-hardness gradually increased and decreased after 640 min. The elongation and contraction of the area also increased gradually. The oxalic acid etch test and EPR test on STS316 and the clad metal showed STEP structure and no sensitization. From the test results on multi-layered and repair welds, it could be concluded that there is no effect on the corrosion resistance of clad metals. The purpose of this study was to suggest some considerations for developing on-site techniques to evaluate the sensitization of stainless steels.

국부가열을 이용한 박판의 사각통 디이프 드로잉 성형에 관한 연구 (A Study on the Drawability of Rectangular Deep Drawing of Sheet Metal using Local Heating)

  • This paper describes that the effects of punch speed and temperatures of the die and the blank holder on the drawability are examined. Up to now, multi-stage of dies sets have been used generally at room temperature in deep drawing of rectangular shaped components. But using local heating, it is shown that one stage of die set was capable of deep drawing and the drawability was increased and sheet thickness of component was drawn somewhat uniformly. Rectangular deep drawing experiments on two kinds of stainless steel STS316L, STS430 of 1.0 mm thickness have been conducted using local heating. The limiting drawing height can be increased by heating the die and the blank holder up to 100 .deg. C at STS316L. Commercial lubricants hadn't an effect on drawability in rectangular deep drawing, but vinyl and teflon film had an effect on it.

다층중간재를 사용한 질화규소/스테인레스 강 접합체의 잔류응력 해석 및 기계적 특성 (FEM Residual Stress Analysis and Mechanical Properties of Silicon Nitride/Stainless Steel Joint with Multi-Interlayer)

  • The thermal residual stresses were estimated for brazed Si3N4/S.S.316 joints with Cu/Mo multi-interlayers using FEM, and their bending strengths at room temperature were measured for various interlayer configura-tions. The Cu, Mo multi-interlayer decreased the maximum residual stress in Si3N4 and caused the residual stress redistribution rsulting in the high residual stress at Mo interlayer. The stress distribution in the joints as well as the maximum residual stress in silicon nitride were found to be main factors for determining bending strengths and Weibull modulous of the joints. The bending strength of the brazed Si3N4/S.S.316 joints with specific Cu, Mo multi-interlayer system were found to be above 400 MPa.

  • The fabrication of complex-shaped parts out of Co-Cr-Mo alloy and 316L stainless steel by three-dimensional printing (3DP) was studied using two grades of each alloy with average particle size of 20 and $75\;{\mu}m$, respectively. To produce sound specimens, the proper 3DP processing parameters were determined. The sintering behavior of the powders was characterized by dilatometric analysis and by batch sintering in argon atmosphere at $1280^{\circ}$ for 2h. The 3DP process has successfully produced complex-shaped biomedical parts with total porosity of 12-25% and homogenous pore structure, which could be suitable for tissue growth into the pores.

A Study on the Galvanic Corrosion for Zirconium with Titanium and 316L Stainless Steel

  • The coastal area of Republic of Korea is very clean compared to other countries. In this reason, west coastal area of our country is a good place for breeding up a fish such as shrimp. In winter season, the heating system is required for preventing shrimp death caused by freezing in the farm. The heater in the heating system for fishery's farm is operated very severe combating corrosion due to high accumulation by feeding material and high temperature in heated sea water. Almost all manufactured heaters of STS 316L and Ti material are scrapped every year due to heavy corrosion such a general and crevice corrosion. For comparing the general and galvanic corrosion in new heater material, the test material of Zirconium (Zr), Titanium (Ti) and STS 316L are tested by potentiodynamic polarization, electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS), current density-time methods and microscopic examination in a 3.5% NaCl solution. The corrosion potential (Ecor) measured by potentiodynamic polarization for Zr, Ti and STS 316L reveals -198, -250 and -450mV, corrosion current density 0.5, 2.5 and $6.5{\mu}A/cm^2$ respectively. The film resistance measured by EIS are Zr 63,000, Ti 39,700 and 316L $3,150{\Omega}$, and the current of Zr-Ti couple is $0.03{\mu}A$, whereas Zr-316L SS is $0.1{\mu}A$. According to the result of this experiment in 3.5% NaCl solution, Zr is excellent corrosion resistance material than Ti and STS 316L.

물분사 추진기 임펠러 부식에 대한 원인분석 (The Cause Analysis of Pitting Corrosion on the Waterjet Impeller)

  • 이 연구는 함정 건조 중 국외도입된 물분사 추진기 임펠러 전체에 표면 점식이 확인되어 이에 대한 원인규명을 위하여 수행하였다. 물분사 추진기 임펠러의 재질은 듀플렉스 2205로 일반적인 스테인리스강인 316l 및 317L보다 부식 및 공식에 대한 저항성이 우수하며 높은 기계적 강도를 가지고 있어 각종 해양 구조물 및 해수 담수화 설비에 사용되는 재질이다. 물분사 추진기 임펠러에 표면 점식에 대한 원인분석을 위해 주사전자현미경 관찰 및 분자생태학적 분석 결과를 통해 다음과 같은 결론을 얻었다. 첫 번째로 주사전자현미경을 통하여 표면 점식이 일어난 부위에서 "S" 성분을 발견할 수 있었고, 두 번째로 분자생태학적 연구결과 부식된 물분사 추진기 임펠러에서 채취한 샘플에 "dsrAB" 유전자가 검출되어, 임펠러 부식은 황산염 환원균에 의한 것으로 판단할 수 있었다. 향후 황산염 환원균에 의한 제품의 손상을 방지하기 위해선 함정 운항 전, 후에 황산염 환원균이 활동하기 어려운 환경인 65℃ 이상의 고온처리 실시, pH5이하 또는 pH9이상 유지, 선체와 추진기의 절연을 통한 과잉전자 생성 방지 등 예방적 관리가 필요하다.
