  • To evaluate the degree of obesity based on differential combinations of BMI and body fat ratio, and thereby to obtain the comprehensive determination of coronary heart disease risk factors. The present study was conducted among 3,731 individuals(male; 2,312, female; 1,419) who underwent general health checkup in the general health promotion center in a university hospital during 2-year period from Jan. 2008 to Dec. 2009. Based on the obesity categories from combinations of BMI and body fat ratio, 30.2% were "normal", 8.9% were "seemingly obese", 31.2% were "occult obese", and 29.8% were "obese". By sexual comparison, the proportion of "normal" and "seeming obese" individuals were higher in men than women, while "occult obese" and "obesity" individuals were preponderant in women compared to men. By age, the proportion of "obesity" individuals were higher in the 40' and 50's than in 30's and 60's. Based on the association between obesity categories and each of CRF, SBP, DBP, TC, HDL-C, LDL-C and TG was significantly higher in "seeming obese" and "obesity" group than in "normal" group, but SBP, TC and LDL-C was significantly higher in "occult obese" and "obesity" group than in "normal" group. For odds ratios of each of CRF for obesity categories, it was higher in "obesity" group, "seeming obese" group, "occult obese" group than in "normal" group in that order.

  • To examine whether the effect on utilization of ambulatory dental care are associated with oral disease according to pack-years of smoking in Korean population. Using data from Korea Health Panel between 2008 and 2012, we analyzed 3,866 participants who were male and more than 20 years. Pack-years of smoking were significantly associated with utilization in ambulatory dental care after adjustment for age, marital status, family income, and chronic disease. Ambulatory dental visitation frequency has been estimated to increase by 6% when 10.0 pack-years of smoking increased. Especially, the smokers who had 20.0~29.9 and 30.0 or more pack-years of smoking in forties and fifties males were 25% and 52% respectively more than non-smokers in utilization of ambulatory dental care.

  • Interest in emotions continues to rise around the world, including Korea, and in recent years, new styles such as new-tro, a new term referring to 'gaem-seong' of the social networking service generation, have emerged. Considering the strong influence of emotion on time and the environment, it is necessary to recognize the public's emotion about the current new style. Thus, in this study, 12 emotional vocabulary words were selected from the nine products applied with the new-tro style: want, cute, happy, pleasure, unique, cool, stylish, pretty, fun, like, joy, and special. According to the analysis of the survey, men's emotions were higher in order of "funny-cute-happy," and women's emotions were higher in order of 40s, 30s, 50s and 20s. Emotional vocabulary extracted from this study can be used to evaluate the sensitivity of objects to which the new-tro style is applied and will be utilized as specific emotional evaluation data through the analysis methods presented.

  • The study is to show the prevalence of double-care burdened households who care simultaneously for children(under 6) and provide invalid elderly care for aging parents among women aged 30s to 40s in Korea. The study aims to place care as ordinary needs for our whole lifetime, not as a special happening to a certain age group at specific period. Also, study attempts to reveal that care experiences include both burden and pleasure, and that care relationship, such as care giver-receiver-assistants(second-helpers), strongly affects the diversity of caring experience. Results are as follows. 38.1% of the survey respondents report that they are/have ever been the double-care burdened households who carry both child care under 6 and elderly care suffering from health problems in the past or the present. If including those who expecting the double burden of care in the near future, the prevalence rate goes up to 54.9%. As hypothesized, caring includes both pleasure and burden. The order of pleasant feelings is child care> parents care>in-law parents care, and that of burden is in reverse. However, caring relationship has a strong influence on pleasure or agony of the caring experience. The association between the relationship and the experience, which is expressed by pleasure or pain, occurs to both daughter-parents and in-laws. Interestingly, the caring experiences by daughter to her parents tend to go more burdensome because their husbands do not commit their identity as carer aid, with no additional caring effort for their in-laws. In conclusion, some policy suggestions for double care problems are provided.

  • This paper identify factors of migration of employees' household who work for relocated public institutions. As a factors of migration, we consider individual and household characteristics, the gravity model of distance and population and so on. Considering discrete dependant variable and structure of data, we employ the logistic multilevel model and random intercept model. The result indicates employees' who are female, 30s and 40s, higher education level(PhD) and whose spouse are unemployed tend to transfer their residential registration to new city near relocated public institution. Regarding regional variable, the distance from employee's previous residential location and number of migration of prior year are statistically significant. Also the model indicate regional economy, educational and residential environment of new city influence employee's decision for transferring residential registration.

  • This study investigated the differential interactive effects of the combination of driving confidence and sensation-seeking on driving anger among different age groups, by using correlation analysis, a hierarchical regression and ANOVAs for the data gathered through the questionnaires administrated in a form of face-to-face interview. The results showed the followings. First, males tended to show higher level in driving anger than females. Second, whereas sensation-seeking was positively correlated with driving anger, age and driving experience were negatively correlated with driving anger, respectively. Third, although there was no significant relationship between driving confidence and driving anger among the drivers aged under 40 years, the drivers aged over 40 years showed higher level of driving anger as their driving confidence increased. Forth, level of sensation-seeking was found to be a strong predictor of driving anger in all age groups. Fifth, driving confidence and sensation-seeking appeared to affect the level of driving anger interactively among drivers aged under 40 years or over 65 years, resulting in higher driving anger only when both the levels of driving confidence and sensation-seeking were high. In contrast, driving confidence and sensation-seeking affected driving anger independently among the drivers aged 30-49 years. Implication and suggestion were discussed.

  • This paper examines the relationship between education and marriage in South Korea, based on a 2 percent data of the 2000 census. The result found strong educational homogamy and wife-hypergamy over the five age cohort, 21-30, 31-40, 41-50, 51-60, and 61-70. For the primary, junior secondary, upper secondary and tertiary educational levels, the chance of marrying within the same educational level was stronger for primary and tertiary education. In terms of trends, the educational homogamy increased across the four cohorts. We note that while upward marriage was stronger for women (hypergamy), it decreased over time.

  • This study set out to identify the problems with hat labels and to search for improvement measures by examining and analyzing consumers' practice of managing their hats. It also intended to provide accurate and enough information about how to keep and wash hats and thus help consumers use their hats for a long period. In an attempt to investigate how consumers wash and manage their hats, a survey was carried out to 395 individuals in their twenties and over who owned hats living in urban areas including Seoul, and were quota sampled according to age and gender. The survey period is March to April 2007. The collected data were statistically treated with the SPSS 12.0 program in terms of frequency, percentage, mean, standard error, cross tabulation, t-test, and one-way ANOVA. The findings were as followed. First, the respondents were in the average level of perceiving and practicing the washing methods of their hats. The female respondents who had more experiences with laundering than the males knew and practiced the washing methods for hats better than males. Second, compared to other clothing items, hat wearers were more likely to pay careful attention to their hats by putting their hats in a laundry net and applying a laundry detergent for wool fabrics when using a washing machine or washing their hats with their own hands. And third, most of the hat wearers were aware of the importance of hat labels and showed a lower level of trust in them than other clothing items. The suppliers need to offer accurate and practical labels in order to regain the consumers' trust. Many consumers had some difficulties figuring out the size system of hats. In particular, the male consumers had a low level of perception of labels, which implies that there should be specific efforts to educate them about general labels.
