Most LV customers have been applying three-phase four-wire electric distribution system which supplies 1-phase and 3-phase load concurrently. Due to its structural simplicity, This system is easy to run. But it can also cause many problems from the unbalance, such as reduced output, increased loss etc. Also the unbalance in the load side causes the unbalance in the source side; it may lower the stability of the whole power system. In this paper, we propose the Y-Tz transformer winding method to reduce the current unbalance in the source side. Efficiency of this method was proven through the simulation and verification experiment.

We have analyzed operating characteristics of transformer-type superconducting fault current limiter (SFCL) according to the serial or parallel connections of secondary coils with $YBa_2Cu_3O_7$ (YBCO) thin films. The turn ratio between the primary and secondary coils was 63:21. Transformer-type SFCL using a transformer with secondary winding of serial or parallel coils could reduce the unbalanced quench caused by differences of the critical current density between YBCO thin films. We found that transformer-type SFCL having serial or parallel connections induced simultaneous quench between the superconducting units. The limiting current in the transformer-type SFCL with a parallel connection was lowered to 30 % compared to the SFCL with a serial connection. In the meantime, when the currents generated in the superconducting units were similar, the voltage value in the parallel connection was 60 % as low as that in the serial connection. However, the voltage generated in the primary winding was some higher. In conclusion, we found that transformer-type SFCL with parallel connection of secondary coils was more effective in fault current limiting characteristics and in the reduction of the consumption power for superconducting units compared to those of the transformer-type SFCL with serial connection of secondary coils.

Coupling capacitor voltage transformers(CCVTs) have been used in extra or ultra high voltage systems to obtain the standard low voltage signal for protection and measurement. For fast suppression of the phenomenon of ferroresonance, three winding CCVTs are used instead of two winding CCVTs. A tuning reactor is connected between a capacitor voltage divider and a voltage transformer to reduce the phase angle difference between the primary and secondary voltages in the steady state. Slight distortion of the secondary voltage is generated when no fault occurs. However, when a fault occurs, the secondary voltage of the CCVT has significant errors due to the transient components such as dc offset component and/or high frequency components resulting from the fault. This paper proposes an algorithm for compensating the secondary voltage of a three winding CCVT in the time domain. With the values of the measured secondary voltage of the three winding CCVT, the secondary, tertiary and primary currents and voltages are estimated; then the voltages across the capacitor and the tuning reactor are calculated and then added to the measured voltage. Test results indicate that the algorithm can successfully compensate the distorted secondary voltage of the three winding CCVT irrespective of the fault distance, the fault impedance and the fault inception angle as well as in the steady state.
HTS transformer is promising one of HTS power applications to be commercialized in the near future. To realize the applications, insulation technology in the coolant, liquid nitrogen, should be established. So breakdown characteristics should be considered at insulation components; turn-to-turn, layer-to-layer, winding-to-winding, were investigated. Firstly breakdown strengths of Kapton films were compared with Kraft paper these are as turn insulator. And next the characteristics of surface flashover on FRP were measured and the influence on breakdown strength of bubble generated with joule heat was discussed with the shape of cooling channel between layers. Finally barrier effect at winding-to-winding was discussed.
In the high-speed EMU, the modularized traction converter produces the significant harmonic currents caused from the switching behavior of a power converter. These harmonic currents bring the interference among the traction equipment. One way to minimize the interference is to design the secondary windings of a power transformer decoupled magnetically as possible. This paper presents a magnetic field analysis on a winding disposition to clarify an impact on magnetic decoupling between secondary windings, under a limited height of a train. Two winding dispositions for a single-phase shell-type transformer are constructed and simulated by a three-dimensional finite elements method (FEM) model. Two different winding dispositions are constructed and simulated by three-dimensional FEM model using Maxwell3D.
A breakdown occurred in power transformer causes interruption of power transmission. Protective relay should be installed in transformer to detect such a fault. Protective relaying algorithm for transformer must be included a function to discriminate between winding fault and inrushing state. Recently, current differential relay is widely used to protect power transformer. However if inrush occurs in transformer, relay can be tripped by judging as internal fault. New algorithms are required in order to such problem. This study proposes a new protective relaying algorithm using Neuro-Fuzzy inference and wavelet. A variety of transformer transient states are simulated by BCTRAN and HYSDT in EMTP. D1 coefficients of differential current are obtained by wavelet transform. D1 coefficients and RMS of 3-phase primary voltage are used to make a target data and are trained by Nwo-Fuzzy algorithm which distinguishes correctly whether internal fault occurs or not within 1/2 after fault detection. It is evaluated that the results obtained by simulations can effectively protect a transformer by contact discriminating between winding fault and inrushing state.

The flat transformer, typically, has a number of parallel single turn secondary windings. Each secondary winding is coupled to the same primary winding. Therefore, the current in each secondary winding is equal to the ampere-turns in the primary winding, and to each other. These characteristics are particularly advantageous where parallel rectifiers are used. The windings share the current equally, with no need for ballast resistors or other added components. In this study, the ferrite magnetic core samples of Mn-Zn system for the Flat transformer are manufactured and the electrical and magnetic characteristics of its tested. The density of sample FO2-2 sintered at $1350^{\circ}C$ is $4.00kg/m^3$, which shows the good microstructural state. The initial permeability and saturation flux density of FO2 at room temperature is 2700 and 510mT, individually. The power loss of FO2 samples at 250kHz have been ranged $350kW/m^3$ to $80kW/m^3$ with temperature. And the minimum power loss of sample FO2-2 showed at $70^{\circ}C$, which property seems very positive to apply for a flat transformer.
In the case of the transformers including the delta winding such as a three-phase Y-Y-$\Delta$ transformer, a delta winding current flows in the delta windings. The delta winding current of a three-phase Y-Y-$\Delta$ transformer is decomposed into a non-circulating current and a circulating current. The former can be estimated directly from the line currents, but the latter can not. This paper proposes an estimation method for a circulating current of a Y-Y-$\Delta$ Transformer. A first order differential equation for the circulating current is derived by applying the Kirchhoff's voltage law on the loop of the delta side. The circulating current can be estimated by solving the differential equation. Various test results indicate the algorithm can estimate the circulating current accurately even under over-excitation and magnetic inrush.

Contactless power system is base on power transmission by magnetic force. The transformer loss is large because it separated with the gap. Also the system has unstable factor, since the parameters in the secondary can vary with the system movement. This paper proposes light train power transmission system using contactless transformer with multiple primary winding. To increase the system efficiency and to obtain the stable power transmission to the dynamic load, a resonant inverter is adopted. The proposed system was verified by the simulation using Spice and Maxwell. The designed contactless power transmission system is implemented for 5[kW] class and experimental results are discussed.

The assessment of the condition of a transformer winding which is suspected of having suffered short circuit damage can be difficult. Conventional test such as winding resistance, magnetic current or insulation resistance will only detect damage if a permanent electrical fault exists. Visual inspection of windings necessitates the removal of oil and in many cases only a very small proportion of the winding can be seen. We describe the characteristic of LVI test system and methods to detect the deformation of windings in the power transformers. As the front rise time of recurrent-surge generator pulse less than 1000 ㎱ and the peak value of pulse is about 500 V, we have the good results of detecting winding deformation in the LVI test of transformers.
