  • In this paper, first of all, the driving performance of QCCs(Quality Control Circles) that are stagnant during 10 years are reviewed. And the usage realities and utilization degree of quality improvement tools in the domestic activities of QCCs are empirically analyzed into size of company and type of business. Thus, this empirical study compares the results of past period in 1997${\sim}$1999 with the results of 6 sigma non-adapting period in 2000${\sim}$2003 through examining the collections of presentation for Korea Quality Control Circle Meetings. Also, according to the introduction of 6 sigma in QCCs activities the difference of utilization degree for quality improvement tools are analyzed to compare the results of 6 sigma non-adapting period in 2000${\sim}$2003 with the results of 6 sigma adapting period in 2004${\sim}$2006. Finally, the utilization degree of 6 sigma tools which follow the driving steps of 6 sigma, DMAIC, are analyzed.

  • Six sigma is an innovative management movement which provides improved business process by adapting the paradigm and the trend of market and customers. Suitable selection of six sigma project could highly reduce the costs, improve the quality, and enhance the customer satisfaction. There are existing studies on the selection of Six Sigma projects, but few studies have been conducted to select the correct project under an incomplete information environment. The purpose of this study is to propose the application of integrated MCDM techniques for correct project selection under incomplete information. The project selection process of six sigma involves four steps as follows: 1) determination of project selection criteria 2) calculation of relative importance of team member's competencies 3) assessment with project preference scale 4) finalization of ranking the projects. This study proposes the combination methods by applying group fuzzy Analytical Hierarchy Process (AHP), an easy defuzzified number of Trapezoidal Fuzzy Number (TrFN) and Grey Relational Analysis (GRA). Both of the weight of project selection criteria and the relative importance of team member's competencies can be evaluated by group fuzzy AHP. Project preferences are assessed by easy defuzzified scale of TrFN in case of incomplete information.)

  • In order to improve the performance of succeeding superstore construction projects, it is essential to find out an effective way for applying the opportunities of improvement on their repetitive construction process based upon the analysis of various success or failure cases occurred on previous similar projects. This research study suggests a way to improve their construction process through the applications of six sigma techniques on superstore construction projects. A literature review was implemented on the basic concept of six sigma and its general performance steps, and the step by step applications of six sigma techniques were accomplished regarding to the speciality of superstore construction projects. The opportunities of improvement for superstore projects were figured out, and the result of their applications on other superstore projects was analyzed. As a result, it was found that the adoption rate of identical success or failure cases was increased. Also, there were several improvement effects on the projects such as $10{\sim}20$ days of time savings by projects, decrease of reworks by preventing failure cases, quality and safety improvement. These results indicate that the six sigma techniques are applicable and valuable for improving the repetitive process of superstore construction projects.

  • Submerged thin walls are extreme case of submerged rectangular blocks, and could be used for many purposes in rivers or coastal zones, e.g. to tsunami. To understand flow characteristics including flow and pressure fields around a specific submerged thin wall a numerical model was applied which includes computation of hydrodynamic pressure on ${\sigma}$-coordinate. ${\sigma}$-coordinate has strong merits for simulation of subcritical flow over mild-sloped beds. On the other hand ${\sigma}$-coordinate is quite poor to treat sharp structures on the bed. There have been a few trials to incorporate dynamic pressure in ${\sigma}$-coordinate by some researchers. One of the previous approaches includes process of sloving the Poisson equation. However, the above method includes many high-order terms, and requires long cpu for simulation. Another method SOLA was developed by Hirt et al. for computation of dynamic pressure, but it was valid for straight grid system only. Previous SOLA was modified for ${\sigma}$-coordinate for the present purpose and was adopted in a model system, CST3D. Computed flow field shows reasonable behaviour including vorticity is much stronger than the upstream and downstream of the structure. The model was verified to laboratory experiments at a 2DV flume. Time-average flow vectors were measured by using one-dimensional electro-magnetic velocimeter. Computed flow field agrees well with the measured flow field within 10 % error from the speed point of view at 5 profiles. It is thought that the modified SOLA scheme is useful for ${\sigma}$-coordinate system.

  • This paper presents the design of continuous-time sigma-delta modulator for acoustic sensor. The feedforward structure without summing block is used to reduce power consumption of sigma-delta modulator. A high-linearity active-RC filter is used to improve resolution of sigma-delta modulator. Excess loop delay problem in conventional continuous-time sigma-delta modulators is solved by our proposed architecture. A low power, high resolution fourth-order continuous-time sigma-delta modulator with 1-bit quantization was realized in a 0.13-${\mu}m$ 1-Poly 8-metal CMOS technology, with a core area of $0.58\;mm^2$. Simulation results show that the modulator achieves 91.3-dB SNR over a 25-kHz signal bandwidth with an oversampling ratio of 64, while dissipating $290{\mu}W$ from a 3.3-V supply.

  • This paper presents a CMOS interface circuit for MEMS acceleration sensor. It consists of a capacitance to voltage converter(CVC), a second-order switched-capacitor (SC) integrator and comparator. A bandgap reference(BGR) has been designed to supply a stable bias to the circuit and a ${\Sigma}{\Delta}$ Modulator with chopper - stabilization(CHS) has also been designed for more suppression of the low frequency noise and offset. As a result, the output of this ${\Sigma}{\Delta}$ Modulator increases about 10% duty cycle when the input voltage amplitude increases 100mV and the sensitivity is x, y-axis 0.45v/g, z-axis 0.28V/g. This work is designed and implemented in a 0.35um CMOS technology with a supply voltage of 3.3V and a sampling frequency of 3MHz sampling frequency. The size of the designed chip including PADs is $0.96mm{\times}0.85mm$.

  • In the present paper, a new calculation algorithm far solving large scale environmental or geophysical flows with free surface is proposed where the non-hydrostatic pressure component is taken into consideration. Predictor-corrector fractional step approach with explicit, forward time marching scheme in the sigma coordinate system is employed. In order to validate the present calculation algorithm and to estimate the effects of non-hydrostatic pressure on resultant flow and free surface movements, example calculations are carried out for typical steady and unsteady flow problems. Present method can be applied to the meso-scale free surface flows with complex bottom topography where MAC-like 3-d hydrodynamic calculations are quite ineffective and uneconomic.

  • This study was carried out to install the lifting force of a two hinge type stand mechanism by 6 Sigma process in advance. This unit is designed for the display device in order to enhance the ergonomics for effective height adjustment and maintenance at any preferred position. The unit will be very useful for the mechanism fabricated with coil springs and disc springs as a torque generator. The 6 Sigma process was applied to select two key factors among 7 elements to lift the head unit and to find out applicable tolerance securing the 3.4 ppm of defects as well as what deviation of lifting force we can expect between calculation and experiment at the design stage of development. The result of this study can be applied to various units for the optimization of the smooth lift.
