Nickel (Ni) and ferrite ($Fe_3O_4$, $NiFe_2O_4$) nanoparticles were synthesized by LGC using both wire feeding (WF) and micron powder feeding (MPF) systems. Phase evolution and magnetic properties were then investigated. The Ni nanopowder included magnetic-ordered phases. The LGC synthesis yielded spherical particles with large coercivity while the abnormal initial magnetization curve for Ni indicated a non-collinear magnetic structure between the core and surface layer of the particles. Since the XRD pattern cannot actually distinguish between magnetite ($Fe_3O_4$) and maghemite (${\gamma}-Fe_2O_3$) as they have a spinel type structure, the phase of the iron oxide in the samples was unveiled by $M{\ddot{o}}ssbauer$ spectroscopy. The synthesized Ni-ferrite consisted of single domain particles, including an unusual ionic state. The synthesized nanopowder bore an active surface due to the defects that affected abnormal magnetic properties.

The flow characteristics of the transitional oscillatory flows are investigated analytically and experimentally in the entrance region of a square duct. The systems of conservation equations are analytically solved by linearizing the non-linear convective terms for the developing transitional oscillatory flows in a square duct. The analytical solutions are obtained in the form of infinite series for the velocity profiles. The experimental study for the air flow in a square duct is carried out to measure the velocity profiles and waveforms by using a hot-wire anemometer with the data acquisition and processing systems. The theoretical and experimental results provide the major characteristics of the developing transitional oscillatory flows, such as velocity profiles, velocity waveforms, and entrance length. The velocity profiles in the decelerating phase are larger than those in the accelerating phase for the developing transitional oscillatory flows. The correlations of the entrance length of the transitional oscillatory flows in a square duct are found to be $Le/Dh=K{\cdot}Re_{os}/2({\omega}^+)^2$, where K is 1.23 of an experimental constant.

With the proliferation of nonlinear loads such as lighting facilities in all modern society high neutral harmonic currents have been observed. High neutral currents in three- phase four-wire distribution systems can cause lots of harmonic problems. The most common solution of neutral harmonic currents reduction is a zero phase sequence filter using zig-zag transformer. This paper analyzes a commercially available neutral line zero sequence currents reduction device and applies the equipment to lighting loads for eliminating harmonics. Experimental results are compared numerically and graphically with simulation results through the use of MATLAB.

This paper discussed a transformer-less shunt static synchronous compensator (STATCOM) with consideration of the following aspects: fast compensation of the reactive power, harmonic cancelation and reducing the unbalancing of the 3-phase source side currents. The STATCOM control algorithm is based on the theory of instantaneous reactive power (P-Q theory). A self charging technique is proposed to regulate the dc capacitor voltage at a desired level with the use of a PI controller. In order to regulate the DC link voltage, an off-line Genetic Algorithm (GA) is used to tune the coefficients of the PI controller. This algorithm arranged these coefficients while considering the importance of three factors in the DC link voltage response: overshoot, settling time and rising time. For this investigation, the entire system including the STATCOM, network, harmonics and unbalancing load are simulated in MATLAB/SIMULINK. After that, a 35KVA STATCOM laboratory setup test including two parallel converter modules is designed and the control algorithm is executed on a TMS320F2812 controller platform.

Power-line communication technology is proposed to identify power transformers to serve customers in 3 phase -4 wires power distribution systems. Mathematical models for 3-phase power transformers, 3-phase wire lines, and customer loads are described to investigate the transmission characteristics of high frequency power line carrier. From the analysis, distribution line cable circuits have only a limited ability to carry higher frequencies. Typically power transformers in the distribution system prevent propagating the higher frequency carrier signal. The proposed method uses the limited propagation ability to identify the power transformer to serve customers. A novel power transformer identification system is designed and implemented. The system consists of a transmitter and a receiver with power-line communication module. Some experiments are conducted to verify the theoretical concepts in a big commercial building. Also some simulations are done to help and understand the concepts by using MATLAB Simulink simulator.

We already know that it is very difficult to obtain an "isolated field" for direct bonding during the surgical exposure of unerupted teeth. The aim of this in-vitro study is to simulate the clinical situation of forced eruption and to evaluate the tensile strengths of preligatured button with several types of contamination which can happen during the surgical exposure of unerupted teeth. Four orthodontic direct bonding systems were used. ($Ortho-One^{TM}$, $Rely-a-Bond^{(R)}$, $Ortho-Two^{TM}$, Phase $II^{(R)}$) Each material was divided into four groups(n=20) : Group 1. (Control, no contamination), Group 2. (Rinse etching agent with saline instead of water), Group 3. (Blood contamination of etched surface for 30 seconds), Group 4. (Blood contamination of primed surface for 30 seconds) 320 bovine anterior permanent teeth were divided into the above mentioned 16 groups. Enamel surface was flattened and ground under water coolant. Pre-ligatured buttons were prepared to the same form. (Cut 0.25 ligature wire 10 cm in length. Twist the ligature wire 30 times clockwise. Mark the wire 15mm and 35mm points from button. Make a loop sticking two points together and twist the loop 6 times counterclockwise.) The bonded specimens were stored at $37^{\circ}C$ saline solution for 3 days. Then the tensile strength of each sample was measured with Instron universal testing machine, crosshead speed of 0.5mm/min. The following results were obtained: 1. As compared to control groups (Group 1) of each material, Rely-a-Bond had a significantly lower mean tensile strengths than other material. (p<0.01) 2. In Group 2. of Ortho-One and Rely-a-Bond, the mean tensile strengths decreased about 7.7% and 11.1%, respectively with statistical significances. (p<0.05) 3. In Group 2. of Ortho-Two and Phase II, the mean tensile strengths did not decrease. 4. In Group 3. of Ortho-One, Rely-a-Bond, Ortho-Two, and Phase II, the mean tensile strengths decreased about 60.8%, 56.1%, 60.2%, and 46.0%, respectively with statistical significances. (p<0.01) 5. In Group 4. of Ortho-One and Rely-a-Bond, the mean tensile strengths did not decrease. 6. In Group 4. of Ortho-Two and Phase II, the mean tensile strengths were decreased about 20.95% and 22.28%, respectively with statistical significances. (p<0.01) There were formations of a hump shaped mass from bonding resin under blood contamination which disturbed direct bonding procedure. According to Reynolds, the proper bond strength for clinical manipulation should be at least 45N or about 4.5Kg.F. According to these results, it can be concluded that Ortho-One could be used during surgical exposure of unerupted teeth. In any case, blood contamination of the etched surface should be avoided, but the blood contamination of primed surface of Ortho-One may not decrease bond strength. Just 'blowing-out' is enough to remove blood from primed surface of Ortho-One. You can verify the clean surface of the primer of Ortho-One after blowing out the blood contamination.

This paper presents the iron core design method of a high temperature superconducting (HTS) transformer considering voltages per turn (V/T). In this research, solenoid type HTS coils were selected for low voltage (LV) winding and double pancake coils for high voltage (HV) winding, just as in conventional large power transformers. V/T is one of the most fundamental elements used in designing transformers, as it decides the core cross sectional area and the number of primary and secondary winding turns. By controlling the V/T, the core dimension and core loss can be changed diversely. The leakage flux is another serious consideration in core design. The magnetic field perpendicular to the HTS wire causes its critical current to fall rapidly as the magnitude of the field increases slowly. Therefore in the design of iron core as well as superconducting windings, contemplation of leakage flux should be preceded. In this paper, the relationship between the V/T and core loss was observed and also, through computational calculations, the leakage magnetic fields perpendicular to the windings were found and their critical current decrement effects were considered in relation to the core design. The % impedance was calculated by way of the numerical method. Finally, various models were suggested.

In city, tracing of power transmission lines is difficult due to compound installation of overhead and underground lines, transposition, bad view caused by trees or big buildings. It is hard problem for electrical technician on site to trace power transformers or power lines to serve customers in 3 phase -4 wires power distribution systems. It is necessary that the correct and fast tracing method is required for load balancing among distribution lines. Old technology use to trace lines with high power impulse injection. Our proposed method uses to trace lines with very small power high frequency signal injection. Simulation models for 3-phase power transformers, 3-phase wire lines, and customer loads are described to investigate the transmission characteristics of high frequency power line carrier. Distribution lines have only a limited ability to carry higher frequencies. Typically power transformers in the distribution system prevent propagating the higher frequency carrier signal.
