  • This paper introduces the development of design capabilities for air cylinders and jig bases in a three-dimensional jig design system for automobile body assembly. We first built the standard part library for these parts, and then developed the dedicated 3D design capabilities based on the Unigraphics system. By using this 3-D jig design system, design can be performed more intuitively, and verification and simulation of design results can be done more easily as the 3-D design result can be used readily for virtual manufacturing simulation.

3D Inspection by Registration of CT and Dual X-ray Images

  • Computed tomography (CT) can completely digitize the interior and the exterior of nearly any object without any destruction. Generally, the resolution for industrial CT is below a few microns. The industrial CT scanning, however, has a limitation because it requires long measuring and processing time. Whereas, 2D X-ray imaging is fast. In this paper, we propose a novel concept of 3D non-destructive inspection technique using the advantages of both micro-CT and dual X-ray images. After registering the master object’s CT data and the sample objects’ dual X-ray images, 3D non-destructive inspection is possible by analyzing the matching results. Calculation for the registration is accelerated by parallel computing using graphics processing unit (GPU).

  • We present full 3-D simulation of dielectrophoretic (DEP) deflection of particle trajectory in micro channel and compare the simulation results with experimental results. In simulation, the particle 3-D movements along x, y and z-axis are simulated precisely, and the streamlines of particles movements and the change of particle height are investigated experimentally. Therefore, the deflection performance is investigated on the designed and fabricated deflection microchip.

  • Virtual construction methodology enables to construct project facility from design phase to construction phase in 3D virtual environment. It is a technique that can solve problems of construction in virtual construction process. This study suggests some methodologies of virtual construction and developed a system for a railway station in Honam express railway project based on suggested methodologies. This study developed layout review and layer simulation functions. Those functions can improve the effectiveness of 3D simulation and the virtual construction system can be used as a verification tool for construction process of various construction projects.

The Numerical Simulation of Volcanic Ash Dispersion at Aso Caldera Volcano using Ash3D Model (Ash3D 모델을 이용한 아소 칼데라 화산에서의 화산재 확산 수치모의 연구)

  • Aso caldera volcano is located in central Kyushu, Japan which is one of the largest caldera volcanoes in the world. Nakadake crater is the only active central cone in Aso caldera. There was an explosive eruption on October 8, 2016, the eruption column height was 11 km, and fallout ash was found 300 km away from the volcano. In this study, we performed a numerical simulation to analyze the ash dispersion and the fallout tephra deposits during this eruption using Ash3D that was developed by the United States Geological Survey. The result showed that the ash would spread to the east and northeast, that could not affect the Korean peninsula, and the volcanic ash was deposited at a place from a distance of 400 km or more in the direction of east and northeast. The result was in close agreement with the identified ashfall deposits. Ash3D can be useful for quick forecast for the effects of hazards caused by volcanic ash.

  • We propose the optimum TO-can package design in SFF/SFP optical transceiver modules to improve 3dB-bandwidth. The frequency response of TO-38 package is measured and compared to simulation where the 3dB-bandwidth was 3.5GHz. For a higher operating bandwidth (>15GHz), the new optimized physical geometries of TO-can package such as bonding-wire, lead and material was suggested. The optimal result of simulation shows that TO-can package can be used at a higher bit rate optical module of 10Gbps.

Comparison on the Pants Fitting for Obese Women between 3D Virtual Garment and Real Garment (3차원 가상착의와 실제착의를 통한 비만여성의 바지 맞음새 비교)

  • A study using 3D virtual garment simulation is carried out for the evaluation and application on the pants fit for obese women in their age of 20s and 30s. The results are as follows; 5 obese women in their 20s and 30s were selected for the testing 3D body. They showed no significant differences in all items, comparing with the data of 5th Size Korea body dimensions. The average waist circumstance of the subjects' 3D body dimensions was 87.0cm, hip circumstance was 102.4cm, BMI was $27.1kg/m^2$, and their obese body types had similar mean values. Based on the detailed design of ready made pants and the study results of 20~30s obese women preference for pants design, pants of straight silhouette and semi-tight fit which have waist line lowered, no front dart and one back dart, were manufactured with 100% black cotton and cotton spandex mixed fabrics. When comparing the appearances between real garment and virtual garment, the average of the real garment with 100% cotton was 3.70 and the virtual garment was 4.05. The average of real garment with cotton spandex mixed fabrics was 3.75 and the virtual garment was 4.06. Therefore, the average of virtual garment was highly evaluated. When comparing the results of evaluating the appearance, there was no significant difference caused by materials between real garment and virtual garment. The expression for the ease of virtual garment and real garment was also similar for good evaluation. Thus, 3D virtual garment simulation did positively prove its reliability and effect.

  • The aluminum tube hydroforming is a manufacturing process which can provide lightweight components as automotive parts. In this paper, the hydroformability of aluminium tube in different condition of bending process is presented. An investigation has been conducted on how to control the deformed shape and its effect on thinning distribution after hydroforming by using finite element simulation. Finite element simulation of tube hydroforming for automotive trailing arm is carried out to explore the effect of 2-dimensional and 3-dimensional bending.

  • In this paper, we propose the visual simulation system for virtual reality motion rider system. The visual simulation system can apply verity virtual reality system. This paper deals with programs on 3D automatic creation of terrain, road design, and a realtime rendering program for the virtual reality system. For the 3D automatic creation of terrain, DEM data and rectangular grid method are applied. We can make two different road object with the road design program. One of them includes road definition, and the other is obtained by using 'NURBS curve.' Visual simulation is consisted by additional modeling and real-time rendering. We can apply the programs made in this way to visual system of driving simulator.

  • The flight simulator should be made like a actual flight. For the scene of sight, instrument should show the condition of flight and the pilot should catch the altitude, speed, pose and rate of lift of the airplane. The paper describes 3D flight visual training program of driving airplane in practice. It is for beginners using joystick in PC, implements airplane physical equations. And it uses rendering technology to implement vision parts of flying object.
