Check valves playa vital role in the operation and protection of nuclear power plants. Check valves failure in nuclear power plants often lead to a plant transient or trip. The analysis of historical failure data gives information on the populations of various types of check valves, the systems they are installed in, failure modes, effects, methods of detection, and the mechanisms of the failures. A majority of check valve failures are caused by improper application. The experimental apparatus is designed and installed to measure the disc positions with flow velocity, Vopen and Vmin for 3 inch and 6 inch swing check valves. The minimum flow velocity necessary to just open the disc at a full open position is referred to as Vopen, and Vmin is defined as the minimum velocity to fully open the disc and hold it without motion. In the experiments, Vmin is determined as the minimum flow velocity at which the back stop load begins to increase after the disc is fully opened or the oscillation level of disc is reduced below $1^{\circ}$. The results show that the Vmin velocities for 3 inch and 6 inch swing check valves are about 27.3% and 17.5% higher than the Vopen velocities, respectively.

In this study, Two types of polyester fabrics were hydrolysed with NaOH using the CDR m/c of pad-steam type and the Sofleena m/c of liquor-flow type to determine the alkali hydrolysis properties of polyester fabrics. The results were as follows: Under the same conditions, the weight loss of charmeuse was about 0.5% and 2~3% higher than that of pebble with CDR m/c and with Sofleena m/c, respectively. The weft density of pebble decreased about 14picks/inch with CDR m/c and 3picks/inch with Sofleena m/c comparing to the untreated sample at 18% of weight loss, while the weft density of charmeuse decreased about 5picks/inch with CDR m/c and 2picks/inch with Sofleena m/c at 20% of weight toss. K/S value decreased almost identically within about 11% weight loss of pebble and 8% of charmeuse processed with both CDR and Sofleena. However, in the above these weight losses, K/S value of the fabrics processed with Sofleena was higher than that of fabrics processed with CDR. The bending rigidity of warp direction of the fabrics ($2{\times}10^{-2}gf.cm^2 /cm$ higher for charmeuse and ($7{\times}10^{-3}gf.cm^2 /cm$ higher for pebble) processed with CDR m/c was higher than that of the fabrics processed with Sofleena m/c.
2.22-inch qVGA $(240{\times}320)$ amorphous silicon thin film transistor liquid active matrix crystal display (a-Si TFT-AMLCD) panel has been successfully demonstrated employing a 2.5 um fine-patterning technology by a wet etch process. Higher resolution 2.22-inch qVGA LCD panel with an aperture ratio of 58% can be fabricated as the 2.5 um fine pattern formation technique is integrated with high thermal photo-resist (PR) development. In addition, a novel concept of unique a-Si TFT process architecture, which is advantageous in terms of reliability, was proposed in the fabrication of 2.22-inch qVGA LCD panel. Overall results show that the 2.5 um fine-patterning is a considerably significant technology to obtain higher aperture ratio for higher resolution a-Si TFT-LCD panel realization.
A Poly-Si and a ITO films with surface roughness 1.8 nm and 0.5 nm of root mean square ($R_{rms}$ vakue) values were developed, respectively. A 3 inch UXGA LTPS TFT-LCD with 667 ppi resolution and a 10 inch VGA LTPS OLED have been developed and demonstrated using PMOS technology.

In this paper, we describe the fabrication of 3.5-inch QCIF active matrix organic light emitting display (AMOLED) panels driven by thin film transistors, which are produced by an ultra-low-temperature polycrystalline silicon process on plastic substrates. The over all processing scheme and technical details are discussed from the viewpoint of mechanical stability and display performance. New ideas, such as a new triple-layered metal gate structure to lower leakage current and organic layers for electrical passivation and stress reduction are highlighted. The operation of a 3.5-inch QCIF AMOLED is also demonstrated.
The experimental apparatus is designed and installed to measure the disc positions with flow velocity, $V_{open}\;and\;V_{min}$ for 3 inch and 6 inch swing check valves. The minimum flow velocity necessary to just open the disc at a full open position is referred to as $V_{open}\;and\;V_{min}$ is defined as the minimum velocity to fully open the disc and hold it without motion. In the experiments, $V_{min}$ is determined as the minimum flow velocity at which the back stop load begins to increase after the disc is idly opened or the oscillation level of disc is reduced below $1^{\circ}$. The results show that the $V_{min}$ velocities for 3 inch and 6 inch swing check valves are about 15.6% and 4.8% higher than the $V_{open}$ velocities, respectively. Although the experiments were done with the stable uniform flow, additional experiments will be performed to determine the effects of the upstream disturbances.
The purpose of this study was to evaluate the possibile clinical application of electroplating to increase diameter of an orthodontic wire, through examining the change of physical properties. The diameter of stainless steel orthodontic wire was increased from 0.016 inch to 0.018 inch by electroplating in a bath of nickel sulfate 100g/L, nickel chloride 60g/L, boric acid 30g/L, and sodium chloride 50g/L, under the conditions of 1.7V, $25\~29^{\circ}C\;and\;3.1\~3.3pH$. During the electroplating, the rate of diameter increase was measured every minute. To investigate uniformity, the diameter was measured at three different locations of each wire specimen aster electroplating. An X-ray diffraction test was performed to analyze the nature of the electroplated metal. Following heat treatment to improve adhesion between the wire and electroplated metal, a three-point bending test was conducted to compare stiffness, field strength, and ultimate strength among four wire groups; 0.016 inch, electroplated 016, electroplated and heat-treated 016, and 0.018 inch wires. Through the comparison of each wire group, following results were obtained. 1. In the load-deflection graph, the curve of the electroplated group was Placed between that of the 0.016 inch group and the 0.018 inch group, and the owe was closer to the 0.018 inch group by heat treatment. 2. In the electroplated and heat-treated 016 wire group, the values of stiffness, yield strength and ultimate strength showed higher tendency than in the original 0.016 Inch group. Stiffness and ultimate strength showed statistically significant differences between two groups. 3. Stiffness, yield strength, and ultimate strength of electroplated wire presented lower values than those of 0.018 inch wire group. 4. Stiffness, yield strength, and ultimate strength of electroplated and heat-treated wire showed higher tendency than those of electroplated wire group, and ultimate strength showed statistically significant difference between two groups. 5. After electroplating, the difference in diameter between the three locations was within $0.1\~0.3\%$ variation, and showed no statistical significance.
With recent advancement of the medical imaging systems and picture archiving and communication system (PACS), installation of digital radiography has been accelerated over past few years. Moreover, Computed Radiography (CR) which was well established for the foundation of digital x-ray imaging systems at low cost was widely used for clinical applications. This study analyzes imaging characteristics for two systems with different pixel sizes through the Modulation Transfer Function (MTF), Noise Power Spectrum (NPS) and Detective Quantum Efficiency (DQE). In addition, influence of radiation dose to the imaging characteristics was also measured by quantitative assessment. A standard beam quality RQA5 based on an international electro-technical commission (IEC) standard was used to perform the x-ray imaging studies. For the results, the spatial resolution based on MTF at 10% for Agfa CR system with I.P size of $8{\times}10$ inches and $14{\times}17$ inches was measured as 3.9 cycles/mm and 2.8 cycles/mm, respectively. The spatial resolution based on MTF at 10% for Fuji CR system with I.P size of $8{\times}10$ inches and $14{\times}17$ inches was measured as 3.4 cycles/mm and 3.2 cycles/mm, respectively. There was difference in the spatial resolution for $14{\times}17$ inches, although radiation dose does not effect to the MTF. The NPS of the Agfa CR system shows similar results for different pixel size between $100{\mu}m$ for $8{\times}10$ inch I.P and $150{\mu}m$ for $14{\times}17$ inch I.P. For both systems, the results show better NPS for increased radiation dose due to increasing number of photons. DQE of the Agfa CR system for $8{\times}10$ inch I.P and $14{\times}17$ inch I.P resulted in 11% and 8.8% at 1.5 cycles/mm, respectively. Both systems show that the higher level of radiation dose would lead to the worse DQE efficiency. Measuring DQE for multiple factors of imaging characteristics plays very important role in determining efficiency of equipment and reducing radiation dose for the patients. In conclusion, the results of this study could be used as a baseline to optimize imaging systems and their imaging characteristics by measuring MTF, NPS, and DQE for different level of radiation dose.
This study was conducted to investigate the Warner-Bratzler shear force (WBS), sarcomere length, total collagen contents and consumer tests of different cuts of Hanwoo beef based on quality grade. Five cuts [Cheggt (striploin), Dngsim (loin), Moksim (chuck roll), Udoon (top round), Yanggi (brisket)] were obtained from Hanwoo beef (bulls and steers, 24-30 months old) and grouped by their quality grades ($1^{++}$, $1^+$, 1, 2 and 3). The WBS values of chuck cut in $1^{++}$, $1^+$ and 1 quality grade groups were 5.47 (kg/0.5 $inch^2$), 5.46 (kg/0.5 $inch^2$) and 6.54 (kg/0.5 $inch^2$), respectively, which were significantly lower than those of chuck in quality grade 3, which was 8.41 (kg/0.5 $inch^2$) (p<0.05). The sarcomere length of the quality grade groups were significantly longer for brisket (3.72 ${\mu}m$) of $1^{++}$ quality grade than for that of 3 quality grade brisket (p<0.05). Brisket of $1^{++}$ and 2 quality grade had significantly greater sarcomere lengths than strip loin and top round in the same quality grade (p<0.05). The total collagen contents of strip loins in the $1^{++}$, $1^+$, and 1 quality grade groups (1.17, 1.18 and 1.14 g/100 g, respectively) were significantly lower than those of the 3 quality grade group (1.63 g/100 g) (p<0.05). The overall sensory scores of tenderness and juiciness for the five cuts of $1^{++}$ quality grade were significantly higher than those of the other quality grade (p<0.05). Among the five cuts, loin had the highest tenderness and juiciness scores (p<0.05), whereas top round had the lowest tenderness and juiciness scores (p<0.05). Overall, there were significant differences in the WBS and sensory properties among quality grades and cuts (p<0.05). However, the sarcomere length and total collagen contents of chuck roll, top round and loin did not differ among quality grades.
Recently, AC variable-speed motors are used for many steel rolling mill drive systems, because of their low maintenance and enhanced control performance. We have been applied GTO inverters for these AC motor drive systems since 1993. We have developed world largest 6-inch diameter GTO and large capacity 3-level GTO inverter up to 20000(kVA). As an example, in this paper, we describe the main circuit, system arrangement and control features of the 6-inches GTO inverters to drive rougher mills for hot strip mill of Pohang Iron & Steel Co., Ltd. The motor capacity is 6000(kW), and it's overload is 250(%).
