This paper presents a miniaturized 65 nm CMOS 30~46 GHz wideband amplifier. To minimize the chip area, coupled inductors are used in the matching networks. The measurement shows that the fabricated amplifier exhibits 9.3 dB of peak gain, 16 GHz of 3 dB bandwidth, and 42 % fractional bandwidth. The measured input and output return losses were more than 10 dB at 35.8~46.0 GHz and 28.6~37.8 GHz, respectively. The chip consumes 42 mW at 1.2 V. The measured group delay variation is 19.1 ps within the 3 dB bandwidth and the chip size excluding the pads is $0.09mm^2$.

A novel RF tunable bandpass filter structure using dielectric resonators and varactor diodes is considered for the optimization to achieve constant bandwidth with minimum passband insertion loss. The coupling between resonators is realized by coupling windows and series lumped L, C elements are used to realize the input/output stage couplings. A 5 poles, 0.01 dB ripple Chebyshev type filter tuned from 800 MHz~900 MHz is designed and presented in this paper. The passband bandwidth for the design is 10 MHz (fractional bandwidth = 1.2 %). Experimental results show that the 3 dB passband bandwidth variation is 12.04 MHz~12.16 MHz (less than 1 %) and passband insertion loss is 15 dB~7 dB depending on the tuning voltages.

In this paper, we propose a T-shaped DGS for CPW and provide the closed-form solutions for power loss rate, and bandwidth of the DGS. The proposed T-shaped DGS structure has a range of capacitance(C) 5.5 times wider than the dumbbell-shaped DGS structure. In addition we also analyze relations between R, L, C values of the DGS equivalent circuit and total loss rate, BW, $\omega_0$ of the DGS.

In this paper, a microstrip bandpass filter(BPF) with 3 dB bandwidth of more than 50 % at center frequency of 30 GHz was implemented. The implemented BPF is to be used as ASK(Amplitude Shift Keying) transmission and reception filters in IF band for THz transmitter and receiver capable of 10 Gb/s wireless data transmission. The microstrip BPF with ultra-wideband characteristics was implemented using a stepped-impedance lowpass filter(LPF) and a composite quarter-wave short stubs where the LPF is functioning as attenuating the upper stopband and quarter-wave short stubs is functioning as attenuating the lower stopband. The measured results are as follows; the insertion loss is 0.65 dB at 30 GHz, the stopband characteristics are -10 dB and -16 dB at 10 GHz and 50 GHz, respectively, and the passband flatness is ${\pm}0.5$ dB at 20~40 GHz.
In this paper, we designed a wideband Tonpilz transducer, and verified the validity of the design through experiments. The wide frequency bandwidth was achieved by coupling the fundamental longitudinal mode of the transducer with a flapping mode of the head mass. Structure of the Tonpilz transducer was optimized by means of the finite element method and genetic algorithm to achieve the widest fractional bandwidth under design constraints. The optimized structure showed a far wider -6 dB fractional bandwidth of transmitting responses than that of single mode transducers. For verification of the design result, we manufactured a transducer prototype of the designed structure and characterized its performance, which showed good agreement with the design results.
Packaging technologies for a broadband and narrowband modulator with a traveling wave electro-absorption modulator (TWEAM) device were developed. In developing a broadband modulator, the effects of the device and packaging designs on the broadband performance were investigated. The optimized designs were obtained through a simulation with the result that we developed a broadband modulator with a 3 dB bandwidth of 38 GHz in the electrical-to-optical (E/O) response, an electrical return loss of less than -10 dB at up to 26 GHz, an rms jitter of 1.832 ps, and an extinction ratio of 5.38 dB in a 40 Gbps non-return to zero (NRZ) eye diagram. For analog application, the effect of the RF termination scheme on the fractional bandwidth was studied. The microstrip line with a double stub as a matching circuit and a laser trimming process were used to obtain an $S_{11}$ of -34.58 dB at 40 GHz and 2.9 GHz bandwidth of less than -15 dB.
In this paper, 2D array transducers using a conductive backer similar to 1-3 composites have been designed, fabricated, and evaluated. The conductive backer was based on well known manufacturing process of 1-3 composites with affordable ingredients. The 2D array transducer had 4,096 elements designed to have 3.5 MHz center frequency and a fractional bandwidth over 60 %. Fabricated prototype of the transducer satisfied the specifications in the center frequency and bandwidth. Performance over the entire elements was so uniform that the standard deviation was less than 0.81 dB. Thus applicability of the conductive backer proposed in this work to 2D array transducers was verified.

A fractional-N frequency synthesizer supports quadruple bands and multiple standards for mobile broadcasting systems. A novel linearized coarse tuned VCO adopting a pseudo-exponential capacitor bank structure is proposed to cover the wide bandwidth of 65%. The proposed technique successfully reduces the variations of KVCO and per-code frequency step by 3.2 and 2.7 times, respectively. For the divider and prescaler circuits, TSPC (true single-phase clock) logic is extensively utilized for high speed operation, low power consumption, and small silicon area. Implemented in $0.18-{\mu}m$ CMOS, the PLL covers $154{\sim}303$ MHz (VHF-III), $462{\sim}911$ MHz (UHF), and $1441{\sim}1887$ MHz (L1, L2) with two VCO's while dissipating 23 mA from 1.8 V supply. The integrated phase noise is 0.598 and 0.812 degree for the integer-N and fractional-N modes, respectively, at 750 MHz output frequency. The in-band noise at 10 kHz offset is -96 dBc/Hz for the integer-N mode and degraded only by 3 dB for the fractional-N mode.

This paper presents a miniaturized epsilon negative (ENG) zeroth-order resonance (ZOR) patch antenna with an improved bandwidth. The miniaturization and the broad bandwidth of the ENG ZOR patch antenna are achieved by using a meandered via and a high permeability substrate instead of a straight via and a dielectric substrate. The use of a meandered via allows miniaturization of the ENG ZOR patch antenna without narrowing the bandwidth. The use of a high permeability substrate allows further miniaturization of the ENG ZOR patch antenna and improvement of the bandwidth. A high permeability substrate consisting of a multi-layered substrate is designed to have a small material loss. The antenna (kr=0.32) has a 10 dB fractional bandwidth of ~1 %, which is 1.74 times as broad as that of an antenna with a dielectric substrate.

This paper presents a low profile multi circular ring with different radius, patch antenna with modified feed line and slotted ground. The size of the antenna is $15{\times}12mm^2$, having electrical dimensions of $0.14{\lambda}{\times}0.12{\lambda}$ (at lower initial frequency) and footprints of $180mm^2$. The proposed antenna covers 3.1 to 12.3 GHz, reflection coefficient up to -38 dB with Bandwidth ratio of 4.13:1 and fractional Bandwidth of 122%. Bandwidth dimension ratio has been calculated (which is 6246) as a proof for compact size. Thin slots introduced on the feed line provide good impedance matching for whole frequency band. Numerical simulations of the proposed antenna are reported in terms of reflection coefficient ${\leq}-10dB$, vswr 2:1, radiation pattern and group delay (ns). The proposed antenna has advantage of very small size along with better impedance match that provides a practical approach to realize it for BW enhancement and UWB applications.
