  • This thesis focuses on the 3D interface tab page type and mode of screen that affect the usability of the small screen devices such as smartphone. The experiments examined eight 3D UI designs, combinations of two modes (Portrait, Landscape) of screen, and four types (Vertical data mountain, Horizontal data mountain, Vertical carousel, Horizontal carousel). Twenty-six participants participated in the experiment. The completion time, preference and fun score were measured. The results showed that the vertical data mountain type provide the best performance in terms of the all conditions. The results of this study suggest a practical approach for the 3D UI tab page design for the small screen devices.

  • It is often required to display 3-D data onto a 2-D screen and to examine and verify validity of data. LIDAR data is a good example. They represent 3-D spatial information in text format. However, it is very difficult to examine data on a 2-D screen. A 3-D data viewing system has been implemented and tested in order to solve the problem.

  • In this research, an Electronic White Board Control System is developed that stores and prints the data written on the white board. This control system is constructed using an embedded single board PC, whose function is the acquisition(from CCD image sensor system), processing and storing of the data on the screen. The properties of this system are as follows: 1. The system is able to move the screen on the right and left. 2. The system is able to output the data written on the screen to a connected printer. 3. The system is controlled by an external remote PC connected to the system by serial line as well as by the keys on the control panel. The data written on the screen can be sent to the external PC and then can be modified and stored...

  • Objectives: Screen time refers to the time spent using screen media, such as televisions, smartphones, computers, or tablets. Excessive exposure to screen media has been reported to negatively impact young children's health and development, including overweight, short sleep duration, and language delays. This study examined the association of screen time and mealtime media use with dietary behaviors among preschool children. Methods: A cross-sectional survey was conducted on parents of children aged three to five years using the online questionnaires of the Nutrition Quotient for Preschoolers (NQ-P) and the Dietary Screening Test (DST). Data from 261 children's parents were analyzed. Results: Of the 261 children, 96.9% used screen media, 55.6% used screen media for two hours or more daily, and 30.7% were exposed to screen media during meals. The NQ-P scores were significantly lower in the children with longer screen time and mealtime media use. Children who used screen media for two hours or more and those exposed to screen media during meals consumed kimchi less frequently and confectionery and sugar-sweetened beverages more frequently than children who used less than two hours and were not exposed to screen media during meals. In addition, they were more likely to be picky about food, refuse to eat, and less likely to feed themselves than children with shorter screen time and no mealtime media use. Conclusions: This study reported an association between unhealthy dietary behaviors, feeding difficulties, and screen time and mealtime media use among preschool children. Further research should explore effective strategies for reducing children's screen time.

  • Multiple layer of wire screen is widely used in many compact devices to filter particulates and to heat or cool fluids. However, data of flow resistance and heat transfer through such layers are rare to find and thus they are experimentally investigated in this study. Compressed air is made to flow through it to find the Ergun constants over a wide range of the Reynolds number. Also, unsteady heating of the wire screen is performed to find the equivalent heat transfer coefficient between the screen and the air by fitting the unsteady air temperature. The obtained coefficients are expressed in terms of the Reynolds number and the Prandtl number.

  • Screening performance of the existing intake screens (drum and travelling screen) on mass impingement of marine animals, a euphausiid, Euphausia pacifica and a scyphozoan medusae, Aurelia aurita that have often clogged intake screens of the Uljin Nuclear Power Plant, was tested. The maximum tolerable densities of marine animals in the inflowing seawater upon the screen were estimated with two different approaches. First the maximum density of jellyfish was calculated from (1) passing amount of seawater per unit time through the screens and (2) the covered area of animals on the screens clogged. The maximum density of krill tolerable in the drum screen was cited from a simulated record of Uljin NPP, then those in the travelling screens were also calculated using the data of drum screen and ratio of seawater amount passing through the screens under the condition of 0.5m water column (W.C.) of the differential pressure (AP) produced by screens, an established permissible limit of ${\Delta}P$. Secondly, the screening performances were also tested by hydrodynamic measurements with various screen models in a circulating water channel equipped with a speed-controlling pump and a differential pressure gauge. From the first approach, the maximum tolerable densities of drum and travelling screen were calculated as 2.0 and $1.5ind/m^3$ for the Jellyfish and 900 and $680ind./m^3$ for the euphausiid, respectively. These densities estimated from the second approach were 2.1 and $0.8ind/m^3$ for the jellyfish and 1059 and $504ind/m^3$ for the euphausiid, respectively. These estimates were compared with the data from historic clogging events to evaluate the practical performance of these intake screens. The comparisons suggest a newly improved intake-screen of which performance should be at least seven times (approximately) better than the existing ones ior the krill and 3.2 times for the jellyfish, respectively, for preventing mass impingement, and for maintaining the condition of the differential pressure between the screens below 0.3 m W.C.

  • Three dimensional shaded images are standard visualization method for CAD models on the computer screen. Therefore, much of the effort in the visualization of CAD models has been focused on how conveniently and realistically CAD models can be displayed on the screen. However, shaded 3D CAD data images captured from the screen may not be suitable for some application areas. Technical document, either in the paper or electronic form, can more clearly describe the shape and annotate parts of the model by using projected 2D line drawing format viewed from a user defined view direction. This paper describes an efficient method for generating such a 2D line drawing data in the vector format. The algorithm is composed of silhouette line detection, hidden line removal and cleaning processes.
