Falling situations are extremely critical events for the elderly person who requires timely and adequate emergency service. For the case of emergency, the information of falling and its direction can be used as an important information for the first aid treatment of the injured person. In this paper, a falling detection system which can pinpoint the falling event with the falling direction is implemented. In order to detect the fall situation, a single gyroscope (MPU-6050) is used in the developed system. The fall detection algorithm that can classify 8 different fall directions such as front, back, left, right and in between falls is proposed. The direction of the fall is decided by examining the acceleration values of X and Y directions of the sensor. It is shown that the proposed algorithm successfully detects the falling event and the falling direction with probability of 97% for a selected value of acceleration threshold.

In this paper, a snowboard simulator that measures the user's motion and makes the user feel physical changes and enjoy actual snowboarding was developed. The speed and direction of the snowboard are determined by the user's center of gravity. The developed simulator is equipped with four springs on the snowboard plate, so that the slope can change according to the change in the user's weight center and be felt directly. The slope due to the change in the center of gravity of the user is measured using a three-axis acceleration sensor. The friction of the slope generated by the rotation of the snowboard is made possible by the user using the BLDC motor, and the rotation of the snowboard is measured using the hole sensor. For rapid data processing of the simulator, two MCUs are used to transfer the measured data to the PC using the acceleration sensor and motor separately. The developed simulator can experience slopes and friction of the slope directly, and wear measured data and HMD to enjoy more realistic snowboarding.

In this paper we propose a motion recognition method for handheld controller 3-D acceleration signals, generated by 3 axis accelerometer in the controller, are transmitted to the computer by Bluetooth communication. We extract motion segments from continuous acceleration signals and apply to each motion model, which is trained in training phase. Hidden Markov Model was used to model each motion. We applied proposed method to three motion sets, the recognition result was good enough to practical use.
We developed a pulsed laser deposition(PLD) apparatus for depositing various thin films. In this study, the formation of $NbS_2$ thin film was performed in the vacuum chamber by PLD method. $Al_2O_3$(012) and Si(111) were used as the substrates. In order to investigate the growth conditions of a high crystalline $NbS_2$ thin film, the S/Nb composition ratio was varied from 2.0 to 5.25 and the substrate temperature was varied from the room temperature to $600^{\circ}C$. From the result of X-ray diffraction studies of the prepared $NbS_2$ thin films, it was reported that the $NbS_2$, thin film showed a good crystallinity at substrate temperature $600^{\circ}C$ and with S/Nb composition ratio 4.0 on $Al_2O_3$(012) but did not on Si(111). The films exhibited c-axis orientation.

In this study, we designed a device for consecutively observing position, utilizing 3-axises acceleration sensor. This method offer to check his or her wrong position and developed could to help derived a position appliance. And, we developed a Cobb's angle value in three dimensional using 3-axises acceleration sensor. A proposed device with integrated accelerometers, which can detect postural changes in terms of curvature variation of the spine in the sagittal and coronal planes, has been developed with intention to facilitate posture training. The proposed device was evaluated with 3 normal subjects daily activities. We evaluated the performance of our designed device as calculating the correlation coefficients and mean errors between the angle measured by an electro-goniometer and that estimated by a gravity accelerometer and verified the accuracy and sensitivity. The results showed that the angle obtained from the proposed device revealed a linear characteristic at the range of $\pm60^{\circ}$(correlation coefficient 0.99, error range $\pm2^{\circ}$). We demonstrated that our device could detect the changes of the motion in upper trunk accurately. Also, our device showed good potential for treatment of the patients with scoliosis and prevention of the unbalance position during a daily life.

A fine stage is developed for the 3-DOF error compensation of a linear axis in order to improve the positioning accuracy. This stage is designed as a planar parallel mechanism, and the joints are based on a flexure hinge to achieve ultra-precise positioning. Also, the effect of Abbe's offsets between the measuring and driving coordinate systems is minimized to ensure an exact error compensation. The mode shapes of the designed stage are analyzed to verify the desired 3-DOF motions, and the workspace and displacement of a piezoelectric actuator (PZT) for compensation are analyzed using forward and inverse kinematics. The 3-DOF error of a linear axis is measured and compensated by using the developed fine stage. A marked improvement is observed compared to the results obtained without error compensation. The peak-to-valley (PV) values of the positional and rotational errors are reduced by 92.6% and 91.3%, respectively.

An elastic polymer (e.g., PDMS) blended with EFG particles is a promising conductive composite for fabricating soft sensors that can detect an object's deformation up to or more than 50%. Here, we develop large-strain, sprayable soft sensors using a mixture of PDMS and EFG particles, which are used as a host elastomer and electrically conductive particles, respectively. A solution for a conductive composite mixture is prepared by the microwave-assisted graphite exfoliation, followed by ultrasonication-induced fragmentation of the exfoliated graphite and ultrasonic blending of PDMS and EFG. Using the prepared solutions for composite and pure PDMS, 1-, 2-, and 3-axis soft sensors are fabricated by airbrush stencil technique where composite mixture and pure PDMS are materials for sensing and insulating layers, respectively. We characterize the soft strain sensors after investigating the effect of PDMS/EFG wt% on mechanical compliance and electrical conductance of the conductive composite.

A smartphone (SMP) includes a MEMS sensor that can record 3-components motions and has a wireless network device to transmit data in live. These features and relatively low maintenance costs are the advantage of using SMPs as an auxiliary seismic observation network. Currently, 279 SMPs are monitoring seismic motions. In this study, we compare the SMP records with the seismic station (SS) records to validate SMP records. The data used for comparison are records for five earthquakes that occurred in 2019, which are 321 SS data recorded by the Korea Meteorological Administration and the Korea Institute of Geoscience and Mineral Resources and 145 recorded by SMPs. The analysis shows that the event-term corrected average residual of the SMP MEMS sensor records is 0.59 which indicating that the peak horizontal acceleration by SMP is 1.8 factor bigger than the peak ground acceleration by SS. In addition, the residuals tend to decrease as the installation floor of the smartphone MEMS sensor increases, which is the similar trend with response spectra from SS.

Development of autonomous vehicle system that use magnetic position meter research of intelligence transportation system is progressed worldwide active by fast increase of vehicles. Among them, research about autonomous of vehicles occupies field. And autonomous of vehicles is element that path recognition is basic. Existent magnetic base autonomous system analyzes three-dimensional data of magnet marker to 3 axises magnetic sensor and recognized route. But because using Magnetic Wire and Magnetic Position Meter in treatise that see, measure side lateral error and propose system that driving. And system that compare with system of autonomous vehicles and propose wishes to verify by hardware of that specification and simple algorithm through an experiment that autonomous is available.
This works studied to compare gas analyzer with accelerometer and the estimation of energy expenditure based on different attaching position of tri-axial accelerometer such as waist and top of the foot Based on the fact that oxygen intake increases more radically linearly during walking more than 8.0km/hr. 9 male subjects performed walking and running on the treadmill with speed of $1.5{\sim}8.5km$/hr and $4.5{\sim}13.0km$/hr, respectively. Commercially available Nike + iPod Sports kit was used to compare energy expenditure with sensor module attached to their foot. Actual energy expenditure was determined by a continuous direct gas analyzer and two multiple regression equations of walking and running mode for different attaching position were developed. Results showed that estimation accuracy of energy expenditure using waist mounted accelerometer was higher than that of the top of the foot and Nike + iPod Sports kit. Results of energy expenditure based on waist and top of the foot showed that the crossover state of energy expenditure occurred at 7.5km/hr. But Nike + iPod Sports kit could not find intersection of energy expenditure in all nine subjects. Therefore the sensor module attached to the waist and separate multi regression equation by walking and running mode was the best to estimate more accurate prediction.
