  • To investigate the appearance of cold water by upwelling effect near Ulsan-Gampo of the southeastern coast in Korea on June, 1999, we carried out a numerical experiment by 3-dimensional diagnostic numerical model. Appearance of cold water by the result of numerical experiment was due to upwelling by wind effect at 50-100m depth near Ulsan-Gampo coast. This result was mused by using a model to 2 times of existing wind magnitude near Busan, Ulsan and Gampo that is 5.0m/sec wind. Therefore, to illustrate the phenomenon of extraordinary marine environment like upwelling event and so forth, appropriate wind data at sea should be used instead of those on land.

  • In this paper, nonlinear analysis for reinforced concrete structure for power transmission line is performed by considering the characteristics of the failure, which are depend on loading conditions and concrete material models. On the numerical evaluation for the failure behavior, the finite element analysis is applied. For the concrete material model, microplane model based on concrete damage is introduced. However, to describe the crack bridging effect of long and short fiber of steel fiber reinforced concrete (SFRC), tensile softening model is suggested and applied for SFRC. An numerical results by finite element technique are compared with the experiment results for box culvert specimen. Comparing on the experimental and analytical results, validity and reliability of numerical analysis are investigated.

  • We calculated the residual current forced by buoyancy, wind stress, and tidal stress in the Chinhae Bay using a three-dimensional diagnostic model. The calculated current was also compared with the observation. The flow directs outward from the central area of the Bay in the upper layer, and also forms eddy-shape stucture in the upper and middle layers. The flow of bottom layer shows an opposite pattern compared to those of top and middle layers. The maximum speed was 6.05 em/see (September) and 3.49 cm/sec (November) in the upper layer, and 4.39 cm/sec on both month in the middle layer. The Kinetic energy of November (8.39xlO' W) was larger than that of September (1.24xlO 'W), mainly resulting from larger buoyancy effect in September. In spite of the roughness of the grid size(1 km) and wind date, the calculated flow shows eorrelation(r=0.71) with the observation. We expect that the correlation be increased by increased by adopting the fine grid and the variable coefficients of diffusion and viscosity.

  • Dynamic response of steel plate girder bridges by KL-510 design truck in KHBDC considering the road surface roughness of bridges and bridge-vehicle interaction is investigated. Simply supported steel plate girder bridges with span length of 20m, 30m, and 40m from "Standard Highway Bridge Superstructure" published by the Korean Ministry of Construction are used for a bridge model, and ten sets of the road surface roughness of bridge deck are generated from power spectral density (PSD) function by assuming the roadway as "Average Road". A three dimensionally modeled 5-axle tractor-trailer with its gross weight, which is the same as that of KL-510 design truck, is used for dynamic analysis. For the finite element modeling of superstructure, beam element for the main girder, shell element for the concrete deck, and rigid link between main girder and concrete deck are used. Impact factor and DLA of steel plate girder bridges for different span are calculated by the proposed numerical analysis model and compared with those specified by several bridge codes.

  • This study describes an analytical and experimental investigation of the pedestrian steel-deck truss bridge in the City of Rochester, New York, U.S.A. This investigation was undertaken to provide assurance that this important bridge continues to be functional for this use. An ambient vibration experiment on full-scale structures is a way of assessing the reliability of the various assumptions employed in the mathematical models used in analysis. It is also the most reliable way of determining the structural parameters of major importance in structural dynamics, such as the mode shapes and the associated natural frequencies. Pedestrian-induced vibrations have been measured on the bridge to determine the displacement and the vertical and transverse dynamic characteristics of the steel deck truss. In the analytical modeling, three-dimensional finite element analysis was developed and validated against the ambient tests.

  • A dynamic analysis procedure is developed to provide a better estimation of the dynamic responses of bridge during the passage of high speed railway vehicles. Particularly, a three dimensional numerical model including the structural interaction between high speed vehicles, bridges and railway endures to analyse accurately and evaluate with in-depth parametric studies for dynamic responses of various bridge span lengths running KTX railway locomotive up to increasing maximum speed(450km/h). Three dimensional frame element is used to model the simply supported pre-stressed concrete (PSC) box bridges for four span lengths(40~25m). Track irregularity employed as a stationary random process from the given spectral density functions and irregularities of both sides of the track are assumed to have high correlation. The high-speed railway vehicle (KTX) is used as 38-degree of freedom system. Three displacements (Vertical, lateral, and longitudinal) as well as three rotational components (Pitching, rolling, and yawing) are considered in the 38-degree of freedom model. The dynamic amplification factors are evaluated by the developed procedure under various traveling conditions, such as track irregularity camber, train speed and ballast. The dynamic analysis such as Newmark-${\beta}$ and Runge-Kutta methods which are able to analyse considering the dynamic impact factors are compared and contrasted.

  • In this paper, quasi-static FDTD method is implemented by FORTRAN programming, and it is used for analysis of body induced current in middle frequencies. The quasi-static FDTD program is validated by comparing the calculation result with analytic solution of the test model, to which it is difficult to apply conventional FDTD. It is confirmed that the time-step is reduced by $5.68{\times}10^6$ times. Using validated numerical technique, body induced current distribution in high resolution 3-D human model is calculated for 20[kHz] magnetic field exposure and 1[MHz] electric field exposure. Also, the effect of grounding condition of both feet on the distribution and amplitude of the induced current is analyzed. It is expected that this research can be applied to various fields including safety assessment of body induced current and development of diagnosis devices using bio-electricity.

  • In order to prevent and treat a patient's disease, the anatomical structure of the lesion through medical imaging is one of the important processes. However, there is a limit to the image displayed on the screen, so many studies are underway to overcome this by using 3D printing technology. To this end, this study implemented a three-dimensional cardiovascular model using actual patient image data, printed it out using a 3D printer, and conducted a usefulness test on current medical professionals. As a result of the usefulness evaluation, when the questionnaire conducted by a total of 5 people was converted to the Likert scale, the average value of all items showed a high result of 4.83 points, and the result of the cross-analysis was (P) = 10.000 (0.265), which was equally positive among all the questionnaires survey results were presented. Based on the results, it is expected that 3D printing technology will help advance medical technology.
