  • In this study, binary blended concrete mix with fly ash and ground granulated blast furnace slag was prepared according to 3 level of water reduction performance of chemical admixture (0%, 8% and 16%) and 3 level of water-cement ratio (40%, 45% and 50%) for evaluation of quality properties of binary blended concrete according to performance of chemical admixture. concrete mix was carried out repetition test of three times in order to secure the reliability. As a result, compressive strength according to performance of chemical admixture was found that difference of strength was about 20% occurred, chemical admixture was showed that a great influence on qualities of concrete. In addition, reflected the effect of performance of chemiacal admixture, prediction model equations for concrete compressive strength was proposed, it was found that more than 85% of the high correlation.

  • This study presents the experimental results of frost durability including resistance to freezing-thawing and surface scaling of concrete. Mixing design was proportioned with the various water-binder ratio between 0.37 and 0.47 and three different binder compositions corresponding to Type I cement without any supplementary cementitious materials(OPC), Type II cement with 50% blast-furnace slag replacement(BFS50), and ternary cement with Type III cement, 15% fly ash, and 35% slag replacement (BFS35%+FA15%). Test results showed that the mixing design with BFS50% and BFS35%+FA15% exhibited higher durability factor than that made with OPC only. Finally, the use of blend cement containing slag can be used effectively in terms of frost durability of the concrete exposed to severe condition under coastal environment like as flying salt, sea water spray, etc.

  • This study carried out to evaluate the hydration heat analysis and fundamental characteristics such as air content, slump, compressive strength and dry shrinkage according to concrete with premixed cement, ternary concrete and OPC concrete for using concrete with premixed cement. The results of experiment are founded that concrete with premixed cement have sufficient performances such as workability, compressive strength and dry shrinkage. Also, the results of hydration heat analysis are founded that concrete with premixed cement have more performance than ternary concrete and OPC concrete at a point of view for the quality control such as thermal crack reducing and economic benefit. Therefore, it is desirable that concrete with premixed cement should be used to rise durability performance and convenience of maintenance.

  • This research carries out experiments for hydration exothermic rate and adiabatic temperature rise of concrete to examine the characteristics of the hydration heat of high flowing self-compacting concrete with a normal strength. As a result of the hydration exothermic rate experiment, the high flowing self-compacting concrete that used Lime stone powder and fly ash as polymers shows that its hydration heat amount reduces due to the reduction of unit cement. The result measured the adiabatic temperature rise of concrete presents that high flowing self-compacting concrete having lots of binder contents has a good performance in temperature reduction due to the effect of polymer and that triple adding high flowing self-compacting concrete has a similar temperature rise speed with conventional concrete. As a result of the research, high flowing self-compacting concrete shows a better temperature reduction performance for the binder content per unit than conventional concrete. In addition, it is judged that triple adding high flowing self-compacting concrete with a specified concrete strength 30 MPa is more beneficial in temperature reduction and early hydration heat than double adding high flowing self-compacting concrete.

  • The qualitative factors influencing the ingress of chloride ion into concrete are water-binder (W/B) ratio, cement type, age, chloride ion concentration of given environment, wet and dry conditions, etc. Thus, an objective of this experimental research is to investigate the effects of cement types and environmental conditions on the chloride ion diffusion characteristics in concrete through the chloride ion diffusion test. For this purpose, the diffusion coefficients for chloride ion in concrete with three types of cement such as ordinary portland cement (OPC), binary blended cement (BBC), and ternary blended cement (TBC), were measured for the concrete specimens with W/B ratios of 32%, 38%, and 43%, respectively. The diffusion coefficients for chloride ion were also measured for the concrete specimens with W/B ratio of 43%, which were subjected to standard curing and field exposure conditions. It was observed from the test results that the resistance against chloride ion penetration increased with decreasing W/B ratio and those of BBC and TBC concretes were greater than that of OPC concrete. Therefore, it was revealed that the use of these cements containing mineral admixtures is required to extend the service life of RC structures exposed to chloride environment. On the other hand, it was noted that the resistance against chloride ion penetration of field exposure test specimens was slightly lower than that of standard curing test specimens due to the penetration of chloride ion under the irregular ambient temperature, splash of wave, and cycle of wet and dry.

It was measured to find best binder mixing according to replacement rate of mineral admixture with compressive strength and flexural strength. After finding best binder, it is also experimented to evaluate durability on chloride penetration resistance, freezing- thawing resistance, scaling resistance of deicing chemicals, abrasion resistance, alkali-silica reactivity test and bonded environment friendly high performance ternary cement concrete deck overlay pavement experimented to evaluate bonded old deck and new concrete overlay pavement using special polymer cement mortar. In additions, bonded environment friendly high performance ternary cement concrete deck overlay pavement by experimental construction was evaluated at interchange bridge of North Yeoju. Result, examination was indicated better binding with binder replacement of cement 70%, ground granulated blast-furnace slag 15% and fly ash 15%. And special polymer cement mortar used in old deck and new overlay concrete was indicated better bonding both laboratory and construction.

  • The purpose of this study is to estimate Chloride Attack Resistibility and mechanical properties of quaternary concrete adding fly ash, blast-furnace slag, and silica fume. Compressive strength, modulus of elasticity, chloride migration coefficient, charge passed from Rapid chloride penetration test(RCPT), and immersion testing in 3% NaCl are tested. Chloride migration coefficient and charge passed of quaternary concrete measured $0.032{\times}10^{-12}m^2/sec$ and 650 coulomb at 17 weeks, which are in a permitted limit. Also in immersion test, depth of chloride penetration and maximum chloride ion of quaternary concrete measured 3.7 mm and $10.211kg/m^3$ respectively. From the results, quaternary concrete adding fly ash, blast-furnace slag, and silica fume denotes improvement of mechanical properties and chloride attack resistibility.

  • Tunnel structures are widely used for transportations in mountains areas. To shorten the construction period and to cut down the construction expenditure, a construction technique that a tunnel excavation process and a tunnel lining process are simultaneously performed is often applied in the field. However, due to the vibration and impact caused by excavation process, cracking and deterioration of tunnel lining concrete could happen. This research experimentally investigated the effective role of the usages of blended cement and recently developed nylon fibers for tunnel lining concrete. It has been observed that both nylon fibers and blended cement improve the durability and physical properties of concrete.
