  • In the last decade, there has been an exponential increase of scientific interest in smart additive manufacturing (AM) technology. Among the different AM techniques, one of the most commonly applied processes is digital light processing (DLP). DLP uses a digital projector screen to flash an ultraviolet light which cures photopolymer resins. The resin is cured to form a solid to produce parts with precise high dimensional accuracy. During the curing process, there are several process parameters that need to be optimized. Among these, the exposure time affects the quality of the 3D printed specimen such as mechanical strength and dimensional accuracy. This study examines optimal exposure times and their impact on printed part. It was found that there is optimal exposure time for printed part to have appropriate mechanical strength and accurate dimensions. The gel fraction and TGA test results confirmed that the improvement of mechanical properties with the increasing UV exposure time was due to the increase of crosslinked network formation with UV exposure time in acrylic resins. In addition, gel fraction and thermogravimetric analysis were employed to microscopically investigate how this process parameter impacts mechanical performance.

  • Embryogenic callus was induced from the cultures of immature embryos of Camellia japonica L. on Murashige & Skoog's (MS) solid medium supplemented with 1 mg/L 2,4-dichlorophenoxy acetic acid (2,4-D), and then the embryogenic callus was proliferated on same medium for 4 weeks over. The embryogenic callus was sub-cultured on MS basal medium without 2,4-D to produce coyledonary stage of somatic embryo. The frequency (%) of somatic embryogenesis was 25.1%, and the majority of somatic embryos formed had a abnormal morphology with cupshaped cotyledon (48.3%), one cotyledon (12.6%), three cotyledons (9.4%), four cotyledons (1.9%), whereas was only normal morphology with two cotyledon (27.5%). When the somatic embryos with normal or abnormal cotyledons transfer to MS basal medium or $\frac{1}{2}$ MS medium with/or without plant growth regulators ($GA_3$, IBA) for regeneration, the frequency (%) of two-cotyledon embryos regenerated into plantlets was higher 11.1% than one cotyledon (0.0~8.3 %), three cotyledons (0.0~5.8%), four cotyledons (0.0%), cup-shaped (0.3~4.2%). These results demonstrated that the anomalous cotyledons of somatic embryos could caused to decrease the rate of plant regeneration.

  • Whole plants were regenerated from callus induced from leaf explants in hybrid kiwi (Actinidia deliciosa${\times}$A. arguta). Callus was induced from leaf explants which cultured on MS solid medium supplemented with combination of auxin (2,4-D, NAA: 0.1~0.5 mg/l) and cytokinin (BA: 0.1~0.2 mg/l). them, the highest callus formation (96.2%) was obtained from the treatment of 0.5 mg/1 2,4-D+0.1 mg/l NAA+0.05 mg/l BA. In the experiment of adventitious shoots induction from primary shoots, only a few shoots were produced in the treatment of 1.0 mg/l BA+0.05 mg/l IBA or 2.0 mg/l BA+0.05 mg/l lBA. As the callus were transferred to the secondary shoot-inducing medium, multiple shoots were obtained from the medium supplemented with 1.0, 2.0 or 5.0 mg/l zeatin in addition to the mixed treatments of BA, thidiazuron (TDZ) or zeatin. However, no multiple shoots were induced on the BA-contained medium of concentrations. Therefore it turned out that addition of BA to medium was less effective for induction of multiple shoots from callus in Actinidia deliciosa${\times}$A. arguta. For producing adventitious roots from shoots, the best frequency of rooting (83.3%) were recorded on the treatment of in vitro rooting (Standardi (St)+1.0 mg/l IBA). On the other side, the lowest result (40.0%) were shown in the treatment of 500 mg/l IBA, 1 hr. Whole plants with shoots and roots were recovered and acclimatized successfully.

  • This study is to evaluate the applicability of high-speed, high-pressure dynamic compression technology for the powder molding of talc. To achieve this, powder molding test was conducted using a self-developed high-speed, high-pressure dynamic compression device, and the results were analyzed. Additionally, the behavior characteristics of pyrophyllite powder particles under dynamic compression were analyzed using the PFC2D. Quantitative analyses, as well as mapping and point analyses, were conducted using the SEM on pyrophyllite from the Naju ceramic Mine and the Bugok mine. The results showed that the weight ratio of composed elements in both mines was in the order of oxygen > silicon > aluminum. A pyrophyllite powder solid with a diameter of 14.5 mm and a thickness of 3 mm was successfully produced using a high-speed, high-pressure dynamic compression device capable of generating an instantaneous compressive force with a 30 kgf projectile dropped from a height of 1.5 m in about 0.4 seconds. Numerical analysis of pyrophyllite powder using PFC2D analyzed that in the numerical model, the compression ratio was approximately 56%, and the porosity decreased from 16.0% to 1.0%, indicating almost no remaining pores.

  • Background: Chemotherapy induced leutropenia has been shown to be associated with improved treatment outcomes in selected solid tumors. We studied the association of chemotherapy induced leutropenia with treatment related outcomes in advanced non-small-cell lung cancer. Methods: This is a prospective analysis of patients receiving chemotherapy for advanced NSCLC at the Shandong Cancer Hospital from 2005-07.The chemotherapy included cisplatin $35mg/m^2$, IV on $d_{1,2}$ and vinorelbine $25mg/m^2$ IV on $d_{1,8}$ every 21 days. Patients were stratified into three groups (A) those experiencing grades 0 leucopenia, group (B) grades 1-2 and group (C) grades 3-4. The outcomes studied were response rate (RR), disease control rate (DCR), and time to progression (TTP). Results: 128 patients were studied. The RRs in groups A, B and C were 30.8%, 56.8% and 71.4%, respectively, p=0.010. The DCRs were 61.5%, 83.8% and 92.9%, respectively, p=0.009 and the median TTPs were 150 days (95%CI: 91-209), 189 days (95%CI: 181-197) and 207 days (95%CI: 172-242), p=0.009. The differences in RR and TTP were significant. In patients whose CIL kept on 10 days at least, the TTP was significantly prolonged, p=0.0213, and the same was the case for those experiencing grades 1-2 leucopenia and ECOG 0, p=0.0412. Conclusions: Occurrence of CIL correlated with RR and TTP in patients with advanced NSCLC receiving cisplatin and vinorelbine chemotherapy, especially in patients experiencing grades 1-2 leucopenia and ECOG 0, and the same for those with CIL persisting for 10 days at least. CIL could be a biological measure of drug activity and a marker of efficacy.

  • Two types of Tb- and Na-substituted green phosphors $Ca_{(1-1.5x)}WO_4:Tb_x^{3+}$: and $Ca_{(1-2x)}WO_4:Tb_x^{3+},Na_x^+$ were synthesized with various x values, using a solid-state reaction. The former phosphors contained both substitutional and vacancy point defects, while the later had only substitutional defects. X-ray diffraction results showed that the main diffraction peak, (112), was centered at $2{\theta}=28.72^{\circ}$ and indicated that there was no basic structural deformation caused by substitutions or vacancies. The photoluminescence emission and photoluminescence excitation spectra revealed the optical properties of trivalent terbium ions, $Tb^{3+}$. Typical transitions, $^5D_3{\rightarrow}^7F_6,\;^7F_5,\;^7F_4$ and $^5D_4{\rightarrow}^7F_6,\;^7F_5,\;^7F_4,\;^7F_3$, and cross relaxations were observed. Subtle differences in the photoluminescence of green phosphors were observed as a result of the point defects. The FT-IR spectra indicated that some of the ungerade vibrational modes had shifted positions and changed shapes, spreading out over a wide range of frequencies. This change can be attributed to the different masses of $Tb^{3+}$ and $Na^+$ ions and $V_{Ca}$" vacancies compared to $Ca^{2+}$ ions. The gerade normal modes of the Raman spectra exhibited subtle differences resulting from point defects in $Ca_{(1-1.5x)}Tb_xWO_4$ and $Ca_{(1-2x)}Tb_xNa_xWO_4$.

  • Protoplasts of Arabidopsis thaliana were easily isolated from the shoot-forming (SF) suspension-cultured cell clusters with 4 hours-shaking condition (40 rpm) on CPD enzyme solution containing 1% cellulase R-10, 0.25% pectolyase Y-23 and 0.5% driselase. Protoplasts were cultured on liquid KAO medium supplemented with 1 mg/L 2,4-D, 0.5 mg/L kinetin, 200 mg/L spermidine and 68 g/L glucose. Also, protoplasts were cultured on 0.2 $\mu$M membrane filter placed onto CP solid medium containing the suspension cells as feeder cells in the dark at $25^{\circ}C$ for 4 weeks. Protoplast-derived-SF calli were cultured on MS medium containing 0.05 mg/L IAA, 7 mg/L 2 ip and 30 g/L sucrose under the continuous illumination for four weeks. The frequency of shoot formation was about 60%. The regenerants were transferred into potting soil to grow mature plants. The regenerants formed the silques with seeds after 8 weeks of cultures.

  • The present study was designed to investigate the effects of calpain system on the formation of volatile flavor compounds in Hanwoo beef. In the first experiment (exp.1), Longissimus lumborum (LL) muscle samples were injected with solutions containing 50 mM $CaCl_2$ or 50 mM $ZnCl_2$ and 154 mM NaCl respectively, and aged for 7 d at $4^{\circ}C$. In the second experiment (exp.2), the ground LL muscle was incubated with the aforementioned solutions containing cathepsin inhibitor. The injection with $CaCl_2$ solution greatly elevated the calpain activity and concomitantly, significantly decreased the Warner-Bratzler shear force (p<0.05). The pH, meat color and cooking loss did not differ (p>0.05) between the treatment groups. A total of 51 volatile compounds were identified using the solid phase microextraction with gas chromatography (SPME-GC). Results on volatile analyses from the both experiments showed that the injection with calcium ions led to significant increase (p<0.05) concentrations of pyrazines and sulfuric compounds. These results coincide with a higher rate of protein degradation due to the $CaCl_2$ injection as compared to the control group. Significantly (p<0.05) higher levels of lipid oxidation derived-aldehydes were found in the samples with $ZnCl_2$. The exp.1 showed that cathepsin inhibitors had no effect on the formation of volatile flavor components after 7 d of aging. These results imply that the proteolytic activity of the calpain system is associated with generation of volatile compounds of chiller-aged beef, while the role of cathepsins is likely very limited.
