  • Some model building codes stipulate that the design displacement of a building can be computed using the elastic static analysis results multiplied by the deflection amplification factor, $C_d$. This approach for estimating the design displacement is essential and appealing in structural engineering practice when nonlinear response history analysis (NRHA) is not required. Furthermore, building codes stipulate the consideration of accidental torsion effects using accidental eccentricity, whether the buildings are symmetric-plan, or asymmetric-plan. In some model building codes, the accidental eccentricity is further amplified by the torsional amplification factor $A_x$ in order to minimize the discrepancy between statically and dynamically estimated responses. Therefore, this warrants exploration of the reliability of statically estimated design displacements in accordance with the building code requirements. This study uses the discrepancy curves as a way of assessing the reliability of the design displacement estimates resulting from the factors $C_d$ and $A_x$. The discrepancy curves show the exceedance probabilities of the differences between the statically estimated design displacements and NRHA results. The discrepancy curves of 3-story, 9-story, and 20-story example buildings are investigated in this study. The example buildings are steel special moment frames with frequency ratios equal to 0.7, 1.0, 1.3, and 1.6, as well as existing eccentricity ratios ranging from 0% to 30%.

  • In this paper, we propose a wavelet based fast motion estimation algorithm for video sequence encoding with very low bit-rate. By using one of properties oi wavelet transform, multi-resolution analysis(MRA) property and spatial Interpolation of an image, we are able to reduce both prediction error and computational complexity at the same time. Especially, by defining a significant block(SB) based on the differential information of wavelet coefficients between successive frames, the proposed algorithm makes up a defect of multi-resolution motion estimation(MRME) algorithm of increasing the number of motion vectors. As experimental results. we can reduce the computational load up to 70% but also improve PSNR up to about 0.1 ∼ 1.2 dB comparing with the MRME algorithm.

  • In this article, one of the procedures to design viscous dampers proposed in literature is applied to 3D asymmetric-plan buildings, considering different distributions for the damping coefficients, which are assumed to be proportional to specific structural or response parameters. The main purpose was to investigate the effectiveness of different vertical and in-plan distributions of the damping coefficients of nonlinear viscous dampers for the seismic retrofit of existing buildings. For comparison purposes, all the distributions were applied utilizing both a simplified and an extended method for the 3D structures, where the simplified method takes into account only the translation in the seismic direction, and the extended method considers the translations along the two orthogonal directions together with the floor rotations. The proposed distributions were then applied to a typical case study involving an asymmetric-plan six-storey RC building. The effectiveness of the different distributions was examined through time-history analyses, assuming nonlinear behaviour for both the viscous dampers and the structural elements. The results of the nonlinear dynamic analyses were examined in terms of maximum and residual inter-storey drifts, peak floor accelerations and maximum damper forces.

Therefore, the GPU are introduced to mobile device for support to variety contents. In this paper, OpenVG accelerator was implemented based on multi-core GP-GPU. OpenVG accelerator is verified using the sample image provided by Khronos group, and overall function is processed by only instruction set without dedicate hardware. The performance of processing the Tiger Image was 2 frames/sec.

  • The ultimate strength testing of a two-story, single-bay, and sway allowed space steel frame was performed. Considering a majority of large-scale frame tests in the past, only two-dimensional frames were experimentally studied. Therefore, three-dimensional experiment is needed to extend the knowledge of this field. The steel frame subjected to non-proportional vertical and horizontal load was tested. The load-displacement curve of the test frame is provided. The experiment results are useful for verification of the three-dimensional numerical analysis. The results obtained from 3D non-linear analysis using ABAQUS were compared with experimental data.

  • This paper presents a new method for an efficient coding of very low bit-rate color video based on adaptive wavelet transform. Our approach reveals that the coding process works more efficiently if the quantized wavelet coefficients are preprocessed by a mechanism exploiting the redundancies in the wavelet subband structure. Thus, we focuses optimized activity of coding part, and exhaustive overlapped block motion compensation is utilized to ensure coherency in motion compensated error frames, and raised cosine window is applied. The horizontal and vertical components of motion vectors are encoded separately using adaptive arithmetic coding while significant wavelet coefficients are encoded in bit-plane order using adaptive arithmetic coding. On average the proposed codec exceeds H.263 and ZTE in peak signal-to-noise ratio by as much as 2.07 and 1.38dB at 28 kbits, respectively. Fore entire sequence coding, 3DWCVC method is superior to H.263 and ZTE by 0.35 and 0.71dB on average, respectively.

  • This paper proposes a new noise cancellation method for speech recognition in noise environments. We determine the time adaptive threshold value using standard deviations of wavelet coefficients after wavelet transform by frames. The time adaptive threshold value is set up by using sum of standard deviations of wavelet coefficients in cA3 and weighted cD1. cA3 coefficients represent the voiced sound with lower frequency components and cD1 coefficients represent the unvoiced sound with higher frequency components. In experiments, we removed noise after adding white Gaussian noise and colored noise to original speech. The proposed method improved SNR and MSE more than wavelet transform and wavelet packet transform does. As a result of speech recognition experiment using noise speech DB, recognition performance is improved by $2\sim4\;\%.$

  • In this paper, a new nonlinear predictor using general regression neural network(GRNN) is proposed for the subband coding of moving pictures. The performance of a proposed nonlinear predictor is compared with BMA(Block Match Algorithm), the most conventional motion estimation technique. As a result, the nonlinear predictor using GRNN can predict well more 2-3dB than BMA. Specially, because of having a clustering process and smoothing noise signals, this predictor well preserves edges in frames after predicting the subband signal. This result is important with respect of human visual system and is excellent performance for the subband coding of moving pictures.

  • The current study compares the effect of structure-soil-structure interaction (SSSI) on the dynamic responses of adjacent buildings and isolated structures including soil-structure interaction (SSI) with the responses of fixed-base structures. Structural responses such as the relative acceleration, displacement, drift and shear force were considered under earthquake ground motion excitation. For this purpose, 5-, 10- and 15-story structures with 2-bay moment resisting frames resting on shallow foundations were modeled as a group of buildings in soft soil media. Viscous lateral boundaries and interface elements were applied to the soil model to simulate semi-infinite soil media, frictional contact and probable slip under seismic excitation. The direct method was employed for fully nonlinear time-history dynamic analysis in OpenSees using 3D finite element soil-structure models with different building positions. The results showed that the responses of the grouped structures were strongly influenced by the adjacent structures. The responses were as much as 4 times greater for drift and 2.3 times greater for shear force than the responses of fixed-base models.

  • EBS started 2HD MMS experimental broadcasting for the first time in Korea on Feb. 11, 2015. It uses the picture compression technique based on MPEG-2 CODEC, and applies the result of the experiment about variable bit rates and changes according to the scanning types, 1080i and 720p. But when changing channels, the delay in displaying picture occurs because of the operation of the variable GOP on MMS broadcasting, which optimizes image quality by application variable bit rates. In this study, verified the relationship between the decoding time of I frames and the GOP set in the encoding step by experimenting and analyzing ON-AIR TS. By using the verification data and adjusts the Encoder GOP parameters, improved the different video display time delays according to the scanning mode 1080i and 720p.
