  • Experimental investigations were performed to examine the characteristics of propagating flame fronts around multiple bars within a rectangular chamber. The explosion chamber is 400 mm in height, $700{\times}700mm^2$ in cross-section and has a large top-venting area, $A_v$, of $700{\times}210mm^2$. This results in a value of 0.44 for $A_v/V^{2/3}$ and a L/D value of 0.57. The multiple obstacles of length 700 mm with a blockage ratio of 30 % were placed within the chamber. Temporally resolved flame front images were recorded by a high speed video camera to investigate the interaction between the propagating flame and the obstacles. Results showed that the flame propagation speeds before the flame impinges onto the obstacle almost equal to the laminar burning velocity. As the propagating flame impinged on the obstacle, the central region of flame began to become concave, this resulted in the flame deceleration in the region. As the flame interacted with the modified flow filed generated behind the central obstacle, the probability density functions(PDFs) of the local flame displacement speed were extensively distributed toward higher speeds.

  • The recovering 3D image from 2D requires the depth information for each picture element. The manual creation of those 3D models is time consuming and expensive. The goal in this paper is to estimate the relative depth information of every region from single view image with camera translation. The paper is based on the fact that the motion of every point within image which taken from camera translation depends on the depth. Motion vector using full-search motion estimation is compensated for camera rotation and zooming. We have developed a framework that estimates the average frame depth by analyzing motion vector and then calculates relative depth of region to average frame depth. Simulation results show that the depth of region belongs to a near or far object is consistent accord with relative depth that man recognizes.

  • Various techniques have been developed for efficient compression of stereoscopic 3D videos. Mixed-resolution based approach is one representative bit-rate saving method based on the characteristics of human visual system that the mixed-resolution stereoscopic videos are perceived close to the higher resolution. However, when the difference between the left and right image resolutions is bigger than a certain threshold level, it causes the perceived quality degradation of the 3D images. Subsequently, several researches tried to find the correlation between the difference in resolution and the level of the perceived quality degradation, but they conducted the experiments just considering the difference in resolution without considering the viewing distances, so thereby different results were retrieved from test to test. In this work, we calculated the optimal viewing distance based on the human visual system, and conducted the subjective tests with the calculated viewing distance. With the results, we demonstrate that the fixed and mobile hybrid 3DTV, which is based on mixed-resolution stereoscopic images, can provide the high quality 3D services.

  • Recently, CCTV has been combined with areas such as big data, artificial intelligence, and image analysis to detect various abnormal behaviors and to detect and analyze the overall situation of objects such as people. Image analysis research for this intelligent video surveillance function is progressing actively. However, CCTV images using 2D information generally have limitations such as object misrecognition due to lack of topological information. This problem can be solved by adding the depth information of the object created by using two cameras to the image. In this paper, we perform background modeling using Mixture of Gaussian technique and detect whether there are moving objects by segmenting the foreground from the modeled background. In order to perform the depth information-based segmentation using the RGB information-based segmentation results, stereo-based depth maps are generated using two cameras. Next, the RGB-based segmented region is set as a domain for extracting depth information, and depth-based segmentation is performed within the domain. In order to detect the center point of a robustly segmented object and to track the direction, the movement of the object is tracked by applying the CAMShift technique, which is the most basic object tracking method. From the experiments, we prove the efficiency of the proposed object detection and tracking method using the RGB-D model.

  • Purpose : The simulator is used to determine patient field and ensure the treatment field, which encompasses the required anatomy during patient normal movement such as during breathing. The latest simulator provide real time display of still, flouroscopic and digitalized image, but conventional simulator is not yet. The purpose of this study is to introduce digital image capture system(DICS) using conventional simulator and clinical case using digital captured still and flouroscopic image. Methods and materials : We connect the video signal cable to the video terminal in the back up of simulator monitor, and connect the video jack to the A/D converter. After connection between the converter jack and computer, We can acquire still image and record flouroscopic image with operating image capture program. The data created with this system can be used in patient treatment, and modified for verification by using image processing software. (j.e. photoshop, paintshop) Result : DICS was able to establish easy and economical procedure. DCIS image was helpful for simulation. DICS imaging was powerful tool in the evaluation of the department specific patient positioning. Conclusion : Because the commercialized simulator based of digital capture is very expensive, it is not easily to establish DICS simulator in the most hospital. DICS using conventional simulator enable to utilize the practical use of image equal to high cost digitalized simulator and to research many clinical cases in case of using other software program.

  • In this paper a 3D position measuring device that finds the 3D position of an arbitarily placed object using a camersa system is introduced. The camera system consists of three stepping motors and a CCD camera and a laser. The viewing direction of the camera is controlled by two stepping motors (pan and tilt motors) and the direction of a laser is also controlled by a stepping motors(laser motor). If an object in a remote place is selected from a live video image the x,y,z coordinates of the object with respect to the reference coordinate system can be obtained by calculating the distance from the camera to the object using a structured light scheme and by obtaining the orientation of the camera that is controlled by two stepping motors. The angles o f stepping motors are controlled by a SGI O2 workstation through a parallel port. The mathematical model of the camera and the distance measuring system are calibrated to calculate an accurate position of the object. This 3D position measuring device can be used to acquire information that is necessary to monitor a remote place.

  • Video-assisted pulmonary lobectomy was introduced in the early 1990's by several authors, and the frequency of video-assisted thoracic surgery (VATS) lobectomy for lung cancer has been slowly increasing because of its safety and oncologic acceptability in patients with early stage lung cancer However, VATS is limited by 2D imaging, an unsteady camera platform, and limited maneuverability of its instruments. The da Vinci Surgical System was recently introduced to overcome these limitations. It has a 3D endoscopic system with high resolution and magnified binocular views and EndoWrist instruments. We report three cases of da Vinci robot system-assisted pulmonary lobectomy in patients with early stage lung cancer.

  • In this paper, we propose a fast motion estimation algorithm for video encoding. Conventional fast motion estimation algorithms have a serious problem of low prediction quality in some frames. However, full search based fast algorithms have low computational reduction ratio. In the paper, we propose an algorithm that significantly reduces unnecessary computations, while keeping prediction quality almost similar to that of the full search. The proposed algorithm uses distribution probability of motion vectors and adaptive search patterns and block matching criteria. By taking different search patterns and error criteria of block matching according to distribution probability of motion vectors, we can reduces only unnecessary computations efficiently. Our algorithm takes only 20~30% in computational amount and has decreased prediction quality about 0~0.02dB compared with the fast full search of the H.264 reference software. Our algorithm will be useful to real-time video coding applications using MPEG-2 or MPEG-4 AVC standards.

  • Although motion estimation Plays an important role in digital video compression, complex search procedure is required to find an optimal motion vector. To reduce the search time, the search start point should be set up properly md efficient search pattern is needed. If the overall motion of the torrent block can be predicted, motion estimation can be performed efficiently. In this paper. block types are classified using candidate vectors and the motion activity of the block is predicted which leads to the search start point close to the optimal motion vector. The proposed method proves to be about 1.5$\sim$7 times faster than existing methods with about 0.02$\sim$0.2(dB) improvement of picture quality in images with large movements.
