The cause of yield reduction in a collector well, which is located in Anseong-cheon watershed in Kyunggi province, is studied by using aquifer sediments' composition and hydraulic conductivity near four horizontal wells, no. 1, no. 4, no. 6, and no. 7 wells. During test-pumping periods, groundwater yield is reduced with a trend of $12.4m^3/d/d$ at no. 1, $2.3m^3/d/d$ at no. 4, $24.4m^3/d/d$ at no. 6, and $187.3m^3/d/d$ at no. 7 and no. 7 well shows the biggest reduction. The sediments along no. 7 horizontal well have low hydraulic conductivity and high coefficient of uniformity ($C_u$), and a deviation of $C_u$ along the well is also large. This characteristics can bring the fine particles' movement and make the openings filled. Additionally, high iron ($Fe^{2+}$) content results in a precipitation of iron hydroxides during pumping or injection and they can produce a clogging in sediments. In the future study, the analysis of physical and hydrochemical changes through a long-term pumping procedure will give a more exact interpretation for the cause of yield reduction.

In this study, a 2-step stamping model with an additional 1st stamping tool is proposed to reduce stamping flaws in the curved parts of a dimple in a nuclear fuel spacer grid. First, the strains of curved part of dimple are characterized via a comparison with strain solutions in pure bending. A reference 2D finite element (FE) model of 1-step stamping is then established, and the corresponding maximum strain is obtained. By varying the values of design variables of the 1st stamping tool in the 2-step stamping model, FE solutions are obtained to express the strain as a function of process variables, which provides the optimum values of process variables. Finally, applying these optimum values to a 3D FE model, we demonstrate the enhanced formability of the proposed 2-step stamping model.

Reactive reductants of cement/Fe(II) systems in dechlorinating chlorinated hydrocarbons have not been identified. The previous studies showed that a hematite/CaO/Fe(II) system had TCE degradation characteristics similar to those of cement/Fe(II) systems with regard to degradation kinetics and that lime (CaO) plays an important role in enhancing the reactivity for TCE dechlorination. The current study shows identified the formation of gypsum ($CaSO_4$) in the hematite/CaO/$FeSO_4$ system through the XRD analysis. The amounts of the gypsum increased with increment of the initial CaO dose. However, when CaO in the hematite/CaO/$FeSO_4$ system was replaced with gypsum, TCE degradation was not observed. Ca-removed Portland cement extracts (CPCX) in combination with $FeSO_4(CPCX/FeSO_4)$ showed no TCE degradation. On the other hands, the Portland cement extracts (PCX) in the presence of $FeSO_4(PCX/FeSO_4)$ and CPCX/CaO/$FeSO_4$ systems degraded 0.2 mM TCE within 5 days, indicating that CaO also played an important role dechlorination reactions in the systems. The pseudo-first-order rate constants (k) of the CPCX/CaO/$FeSO_4$ systems were 0.20, 0.24, and 0.72 $day^{-1}$, when the CaO dosages were 25, 50 and 75 g/L, respectively. The XRD analyses showed identified the common peaks having the d-values of 3.02, 2.27, and 1.87 in the reaction systems that showed TCE degradation. However, it was not possible to clearly identify the crystalline minerals having the three peaks from the references in JCPDS cards. This study reveals that the reactive agents in the cement/Fe(II) and the hematite/Fe(II) systems are likely to be those containing CaO and Fe(II).
Geochemistry of stream water and sediment collected in the vicinity of the Donghae coal mine in the Samchuk coalfied were investigated in order to evaluate the environmental impacts of acid mine drainage. The pH of stream water ranges from 2.85(at 2 km away from the mine) to 7.92(at uncontaminated tributary). The main cation and anion species in the upper stream are $Ca^{2+}$ and $SO_{4}{^2-}$, respectively. The level of pH and the amount of $HCO^{3-}$ in stream water increase to the downstream and where uncontaminated small tributaries are joining, and in the area covered with limestone. From the results of thermodynamic calculation, the main forms of iron in stream water are estimated as $Fe^{2+}$ and $FeSO_{4}{^0}$, and most of them could be precipitated as FeO(OH) with increase of pH. The white precipitates in stream sediments particularly found around the coal mine are proved to be $Al(OH)_3$ by XRD and XRF analysis. As a result of investigation for seasonal variation of AMD, the level of pH decreased and conductivity increased in dry season.

Stainless steel has been stably used closed by passivity oxidation films($Cr_2O_3$) is made by neutral atmospheric environment. However, passivity oxidation films of the surface of stainless steel occasionally comes to be destroyed in seawater which is influenced by an environment having halogen ion like $Cl^-$, then, localization corrosion comes to occur. Stainless steel 304 for shaft system material of the small-size FRP fishing boat on seawater environments made an experiment on simulation of sacrifical anode(Al, Zn). Through these experiment and study, following results have been obtained ; According to the field inspection and corrosion simulation, the corrosion on the 2nd class stainless steel shaft(STS 304) in FRP fishing boat has been verified to occur by crevice corrosion and galvanic corrosion etc.. According to the comparison and analysis of Stainless steel 304 shaft materials after simulation leaving unprotected and applying cathodic protection, unprotected shaft specimen of stainless steel 304 was severely corroded, but, protected shaft specimen was not totally corroded. This result is assumed to be made by the facts that anodic reaction, $Fe{\rightarrow}Fe^{2+}$ + $2e^-$, has been restricted by the cathodic protection current of sacrificial anode material.
Both manufacturing parameters and particles' chemical composition controll coercivity and its distribution of magnetic particles. The coercivity and its distribution are important properties for high density magnetic recording, so these are used as tool for evaluation of reproducibility of magnetic particles. We report in this paper the applications of dM/dH versus H curve, which is derived from magnetic hysteresis loop, to the evaluation of coercivity distribution of magnetic particles and oxidation studies of recording metal particles. The coercivity distri-bution can be estimated from the full width half rnaximun (FWHM) and the peak shape of the dM/dH versus H curve. The peak shape of the curve depends upon distribution of particles' coercivity. The peak of dM/dH versus H curve becomes broad and lor is splitted into two or rmre peaks. It depends on uniformity of particles' coercivity. When the coercivity difference between Ba-Ferrite and ${\gamma}-Fe_{2}O_{3}$ is larger than 600 Oe, the peak becomes broad and is consequently splitted into two peaks. Ununiformly substituted Ba-Ferrite particles show broad peak. It is apparent that the analysis of the curve is one of sensitive measuring techniques for determination of coercivity distri-bution and studies on magnetic properties of substituted Ba-Ferrite and oxidation of magnetic recording metal particles.
A graded harmonic finite element formulation based on three-dimensional elasticity theory is developed for the structural analysis of 2D functionally graded axisymmetric structures. The mechanical properties of the axisymmetric solid structures composed of two different metals and ceramics are assumed to vary in radial and axial directions according to power law variations as a function of the volume fractions of the constituents. The material properties of the graded element are calculated at the integration points. Effects of material distribution profile on the static deformation, natural frequency and dynamic response analyses of particular axisymmetric solid structures are investigated by changing the power law exponents. It is observed that the displacements, stresses and natural frequencies are severely affected by the variation of axial and radial power law exponents. Good accuracy is obtained with fewer elements in the present study since Fourier series expansion eliminates the need of finite element mesh in circumferential direction and continuous material property distribution within the elements improves accuracy without refining the mesh size in axial and radial directions.

In this research, a tool was developed to automate one-dimensional finite element analysis (1D FEA) for design of a machine tool spindle. Based on object-oriented programing, this tool employs the objects of a CAD system to construct a geometric model and then to convert it into the FE model of 1D beams at the workbenches of the CAD system with minimum data to define the spindle such as bearing positions and cross-sections of the shaft. Graphic user interfaces were developed for users to interact with the tool. This tool is helpful in identifying a near optimal design of the spindle with the automation of the FEA process with numerous design changes in minimum time and efforts. It is also expected to allow even design engineers to perform the FEA in search of an optimal design of the machine tool spindle.
The body of the work covers FSW welding of Al6061 and its thermal distribution based on an analytical model for the heat input at the probe/matrix boundary of Al plates and FSW tool due to the effect of combined translation and rotational motion of the tool pin and shoulder. Finally the 2D- finite element heat transfer analysis program has been used to plot the heat distribution at the Friction Stir Welded joint in Al 6061 plate. The work concludes that the heat distribution result obtained from FE analysis has a reasonable agreement with the experimentally measured values.
