Microstructure of otoliths and early growth in total length of laboratory-reared river puffer, Takrifugu obscurus were observed from 1 to 63 days after hatching. The total length of Takifugu obscurus was 3.09${\pm}$0.02 mm, 4.96${\pm}$0.24 mm, 5.39${\pm}$0.42 mm,9.13${\pm}$0.59 mm, 10.78${\pm}$0.96, 16.40${\pm}$2.31 mm, 30.49${\pm}$l.53 mm in 1, 10, 20, 30, 34, 43, 63 days respectively. The mean radius of otoliths was 14.20${\pm}$1.21 $\mu\textrm{m}$ in 1 day, 31.06${\pm}$2.31 $\mu\textrm{m}$ in 10 days,57.19${\pm}$6.19 $\mu\textrm{m}$ in 20 days,127.13${\pm}$13.13 $\mu\textrm{m}$ in 34 days,190.79${\pm}$17.08 $\mu\textrm{m}$ in 43 days and 281.85${\pm}$23.81 $\mu\textrm{m}$ in 63 days after hatching. Growth of otoliths were similar to the growth pattern in total length during 20-63 days after hatching. Hatch mark was distinguished with other growth increments and within a hatch mark two or three increments were observed. The number of growth increments was correlated with the days after hatching between 20 and 63 days after hatching.
The effects of branched chain amino acids and metabolites in growth media on the biosynthesis of Serratia marcescens threonine dehydratase activity were examined. The enzyme activity was decreased above 60% by leucine among the range from 1 to 20 mM, and the enzyme activity was decreased approximately 20% by a low concentration of valine (1 to 4 mM), but not affected at high concentration (20 mM). However, the enzyme activity was increased approximately 100 to 140% by a low concentration of isoleucine (1 to 4 mM), but decreased approximately 25 to 80% at high concentration (15 to 30 mM). The enzyme activity was decreased by 25 and 58% by the simultaneous addition of all three branched chain amino acids at 2 and 10 mM concentration, respectively, but increased by 75 and 50% by the combination addition of isoleucine plus valine and isoleucine plus leucine at 2 mM, respectively. cAMP was decreased the enzyme activity approximately 10 to 40% by a low concentration (1 to 2 mM), but increased by 80% at high concentration (10 mM). These data suggest that S. marcescens threonine dehydratase should be multivalently repressed by branched chain amino acids, but positively regulated by a low isoleucine concentration and may play a regulatory role in an isoleucine biosynthetic pathway unlike the E. coli K-12 enzyme.
The effects of harman and norharman on dopamine content and L-DOPA-induced cytotoxicity were investigated in PC12 cells. Harman and norharman decreased the intracellular dopamine content for 24 h. The $IC_{50}$ values of harman and norharman were 20.4 ${\mu}M$ and 95.8 ${\mu}M$, respectively. Tyrosine hydroxylase (TH) activity and TH mRNA levels were also decreased by 20 ${\mu}M$ harman and 100 ${\mu}M$ norharman. Under the same conditions, the intracellular cyclic AMP levels were decreased by harman and norharman. In addition, harman and norharman at concentrations higher than 80 ${\mu}M$ and 150 ${\mu}M$ caused cytotoxicity at 24 h in PC12 cells. Non-cytotoxic ranges of 10-30 ${\mu}M$ harman and 50-150 ${\mu}M$ norharman inhibited L-DOPA (20-50 ${\mu}M$)-induced increases of dopamine content at 24 h. Harman at 20-150 ${\mu}M$ and norharman at 100-300 ${\mu}M$ also enhanced LDOPA (20-100 ${\mu}M$)-induced cytotoxicity at 24 h. These results suggest that harman and norharman decrease dopamine content by reducing TH activity and aggravate L-DOPA-induced cytotoxicity in PC12 cells.
The critical micelle concentration (CMC) of sorbitan laurate SP 20 surfactant in this paper was near $7.216{\times}10^{-4}mol/L$ and the surface tension at CMC was about 26.0 mN/m, which showed higher CMC and lower surface tension than those of octylphenol ethoxylate octylphenol ethoxylate (OPE) 10 surfactant. Dynamic surface tension measurement using a maximum bubble pressure tensiometer showed that the adsorption rate at the interface between air and surfactant solution was found to be slower with SP 20 surfactant, presumably due to a low mobility of SP 20 surfactant monomer. The contact angle of SP 20 surfactant solution was observed to decrease with an increase in surfactant concentration and showed a larger value than that of OPE 10 surfactant solution. Half-life time for foams generated with 1 wt% surfactant solution was also larger with SP 20 surfactant, which indicated higher foam stability with SP 20 surfactant. Dynamic behavior study reveals that the solubilization of n-decane oil was much lower with SP 20, which is in good agreement with experimental results of foam stability, contact angle and CMC. Dynamic interfacial tension measurement by a spinning drop tensiometer shows that interfacial tensions at equilibrium condition in both systems were almost the same but the time required to reach equilibrium was longer with SP 20.

Induction of regeneration and maturation of the free-living gametophytes of Saccharina japonica was studied at four temperatures (5, 10, 15 and $20^{\circ}C$), four levels of irradiance (5, 10, 20 and $40{\mu}mol\;m^{-2}\;s^{-1}$) and three photoperiods (14 : 10, 12 : 12 and 10 : 14 h L : D). Female gametophyte fragments were maintained in active regeneration without reaching sexual maturity under conditions of $15^{\circ}C$, $20{\mu}mol\;m^{-2}\;s^{-1}$, 10 : 14 h (L : D), whereas the conditions for male gametophytes were slightly different at $15^{\circ}C$, $5{\mu}mol\;m^{-2}\;s^{-1}$, 14 : 10 h (L : D). The sexual maturation of female and male gametophytes took place under $5^{\circ}C$, $20{\sim}40{\mu}mol\;m^{-2}\;s^{-1}$, 10 : 14 h (L : D) and $15^{\circ}C$, $40{\mu}mol\;m^{-2}\;s^{-1}$, 10 : 14 h (L : D), respectively. These results provide basic information for controlling the regenerationand maturation of free-living gametophytes for strain improvement and cross breeding of S. japonica.

The induction of regeneration and the maturation of the free-living gametophytes of Undaria pinnatifida were studied at temperatures(5, 10, 15 and $20^{\circ}C$), irradiance (5, 10, 20 and $40{\mu}mol\;photons\;m^{-2}\;s^{-1}$) and photoperiods (14 : 10, 12 : 12 and 10 : 14 h L: D). Female gametophyte fragments were maintained in active regeneration without them reaching sexual maturity under conditions of $15^{\circ}C$, $20{\mu}mol\;photons\;m^{-2}\;s^{-1}$, 10 : 14 h (L : D); by contrast, the conditions for male gametophytes were slightly different at $15^{\circ}C$, $5{\mu}mol\;photons\;m^{-2}\;s^{-1}$, 14 : 10 h (L: D). The sexual maturation of female and male gametophytes took place under $5^{\circ}C$, $20-40{\mu}mol\;photons\;m^{-2}\;s^{-1}$, 10 : 14 h (L : D) and $15^{\circ}C$, $40{\mu}mol\;photons\;m^{-2}\;s^{-1}$, 10 : 14 h (L : D), respectively. These results provide basic information for controlling the regeneration and maturation of free-living gametophytes for srain improvement as well as the cross breeding of U. pinnatifida.
The aim of this study is to investigate the effect of five different combinations including: sand 70%, bentonite 30% (S70B30)- sand 80%, bentonite 20% (S80B20)- sand 80%, organophilic 20% (S80M20)- sand 60%, bentonite 20%, organophilic 20% (S60B30M20) and sand 75% - bentonite 15% - organophilic 10% (S75B15M10) on landfill linear structure in order to decrease phenol leaching. Hydraulic conductivity and adsorption behavior of the samples were investigated. The results demonstrated that the lowest hydraulic conductivity coefficient ($1.16{\times}10^{-11}{\frac{m}{s}}$) was obtained for S70B30. Furthermore, adding more than 20% of bentonite had no significant effect on reducing permeability. Moreover, Freundlich isotherm was introduced as the best model explaining adsorption behaviour due to its highest determination coefficient (0.945). The best samples for adsorption capacity of phenol and for both permeability and adsorption are S80M20 and S60B30M20, respectively. Although the presence of bentonite was effective in reducing hydraulic conductivity, organic clay had no considerable impact on reducing permeability. Though, it's an exceptional role in adsorbing organic contaminants including phenol cannot be ignored. To meet all regulatory constraints, the optimal compound is made up of 10.2% of bentonite and 2.8% of organophilic clays with a minimized cost of 13.64 ($/ton).

Before long the number of Elementary School students per class will be 20 in Korea, but the current Area and Module of Elementary School are planned for 30 students. Therefore, necessary Area and Module for less than 20 students should be prepared. The purpose of this research is to find out necessary Area and Module for less than 20 students in Elementary School Classroom. I researched 60 Classrooms of 10 Elementary Schools before 2 researches of mine, and researched the sizes of every path in the classrooms. With the Plans for 20 students, I found the conclusion as follows: First, the one-way class requires a minimum of 5.4m×8.1m (43.74m2), a maximum of 5.4m×8.7m (48.6m2). Second, the 3-row alignment class requires a minimum of 7.2m×7.2m (51.84m2), a maximum of 7.5m×7.5m (56.25m2). Third, the group study class requires a minimum of 6.0m×8.7m (52.2m2), a maximum of 6.3m×9.3m (58.59m2). Fourth, the group study class requires a minimum of 2.34m2, a maximum of 14.85m2 more than the one-way class. Fifth, the suitable module which fits both 2-row alignment class and group study class except the 3-row alignment class is 6.0m×8.7m (52.2m2).
The effects of amino acids and metabolites in growth media on the biosynthesis of prodigiosin from Serratia marcescens ATCC 25419 were examined. The prodigiosin synthesis was decreased approximately by 50 to 80% by several amino acids and metabolites tested. The prodigiosin synthesis was increased approximately by 20 to 40% by a low concentration of glyoxylate(1 to 3mM) and outstandingly increased by 122% at 5mM concentration under anaerobic condition. However, the prodigiosin synthesis was decreased approximately by 50 to 90% at a high concentration(20 to 30mM) under anaerobic condition. The prodigiosin was not synthesized by pyruvate and $\alpha$-ketobutyrate under aerobic and anaerobic condition, with addition to glyoxylate under aerobic condition, among the range from 0.5 to 30mM, while the cell growth under anaerobic condition was decreased distinctly by a high concentration(20mM above) of glyoxylate. These data suggest that the growth and prodigiosin of S. marcescens is positively regulated by a low concentration of glyoxylate (1-5mM), but repressed by a high concentration of glyoxylate(20mM above) unlike pyruvate and $\alpha$-ketobutyrate.
