Detection of Mitochondrial ATP-Sensitive Potassium Channels in Rat Cardiomyocytes

  • Mitochondrial ATP-sensitive potassium $(mitoK_{ATP})$ channels play a role in early and late ischemic preconditioning. Nevertheless, the subunit composition of $mitoK_{ATP}$ channels remains unclear. In this study, we investigated the subunit composition of $mitoK_{ATP}$ channels in mitochondria isolated from rat cardiac myocytes. Mitochondria were visualized using the red fluorescence probe, Mitrotracker Red, while $mitoK_{ATP}$ channels were visualized using the green fluorescence probe, glibenclamide-BODIPY. The immunofluorescence confocal microscopy revealed the presence of Kir6.1, Kir6.2 and SUR2 present in the cardiac mitochondria. Western blot analysis was carried to further investigate the nature of $mitoK_{ATP}$ channels. For SUR proteins, a 140-kDa immunoreactive band that corresponded to SUR2, but no SUR1 was detected. For Kir6.2, three bands $({\sim}44,\;{\sim}46,\;and\;{\sim}30\;kDa)$ were detected, and a specific ${\sim}46-kDa$ immunoreactive band corresponding to Kir6.1 was also observed. These observations suggest that the subunits of $mitoK_{ATP}$ channels in rat myocytes include Kir6.1, Kir6.2, and a SUR2-related sulfonylurea-binding protein.

A Study of the Changes in Korean Population structure - 1955~2020 - (한국 인구구조의 변화에 관한 분석 - 1955년~2020년 -)

  • This study analyzes the structural characteristics of rapid changes in Korean population, using the data of a census and other data on the changes in the population. Major findings are : 1. During 1950~1955, annual increase rate of population was about 1.02%, about 2.88% during 1955~1960, and 1.36% during 1980~1985. It is expected to decrease to 0.07% during 2015~2020. 2. Major Age Composition 0~14 is expected to reduce to 16.5% in 2020 from 41.2% in 1955, while the ratio of population aged 15~64 is expected to increase to 72.1% from 55.5%. Furthermore, for the population group of age 65 and over is expected to increase from a mere 3.3% to 11.4%. 3. The aging index of population is expected to increase to 69.5 in 2020 from 8.0 in 1955 and so the old dependency ratio is expected to 15.9 from 6.0 4. The median age is expected to 40.2 in 2020 from 19.0 in 1955. 5. In 2020 the child-woman ratio is expected to reduce to 22.3 from 64.7 in 1955. 6. In 2020 the age index of 0~4 is expected to 57.4 from 169.4 in 1955, and the age index of 65~69 to 261.7 from 95.6 on the contrary.

  • The value chain of a country is achieved in cooperation with other countries. Accordingly, the international technical cooperation in the field of R&D is known to be one of the innovation strategies. But the efforts on research in the international technological cooperation is lacking in Korea. Europe expects technological progress in the industrial area in order to create employment in the near future but Science and Technology Research should also create this endeavor for the future. EU recognizes that the current trend of scientific and technological research will have a negative impact on future job creations in Europe. Therefore EU has developed the 2020 strategy. The purpose of this paper is to seek the technological cooperation policy especially on the basis of the EU's 2020 strategy. In accordance with the results of this paper, our government will pursue future EU FP 8 policy to be developed on the basis of EU's 2020 strategy.

  • The defense innovation 2020 advanced topics which have to establish robust milatary are based on archiving defense innovation by selecting twenty-one main topics and eighties' sub-topics whose topics focus on defense innovation and defense circumstance in 2020. Although defense innovation 2020 which is to be advanced with defense basic policy need to decision making, it is specified in programming step by merging budget with plan. If the Defense Ministry archives decision making from initial plan step, although it archives group decision making in programming step at present, it will archive efficient affair. This study archives a group decision making of defense innovation 2020 advanced topics which were published in the Defense Ministry by applying Analytic Hierarchy Process in plan step. In addition, if the weights of the main topics are equal, the sub topics analyze how to be changed throughout sensitivity analysis and suggest the topics' priority rank throughout group decision making.

Changes in the Air Quality of Port Areas Following the Implementation of the IMO 2020 Sulfur Limit (IMO 2020 황산화물 규제에 따른 항만지역 대기질 변화 특성)

  • From January 1, 2020, the International Maritime Organization has implemented a global regulation, known as IMO 2020, to reduce the sulfur content in fuel oil of ships from 3.5% to 0.5%. In this study, we used data from air monitoring stations to evaluate the change in air quality at New Port and North Port in Korea areas after the regulation was implemented. The concentration of SO2 and NO2 was higher in the port areas than in the surrounding areas due to exhaust gas from ships and vehicles. However, the SO2 concentration decreased by more than 50% in the port area, demonstrating the efficiency and positive effect of the IMO 2020 sulfur limit.

  • Purpose: This study is a comparative study to examine the differences between Incoterms 2010 and Incoterms 2010 through a study on the revision contents and conditions of Incoterms 2020. Research design, data, methodology: This study is composed of 5 chapters through literature study. Chapter 1 is an introduction, and Chapter 2 explains the significance and change of standard trading conditions. Chapter 3 compares Incoterms 2020 and 2010. Chapter 4 deals with major revisions and considerations of Incoterms 2020, and Chapter 5 mentions conclusions and implications. Results: In comparison with Incoterms 2020 and Incoterms 2010, first, the selection of the correct Incoterms rules was emphasized through the introduction; second, the division and connection between the sale contract and the ancillary contract were more clearly explained; and third, each Incoterms An explanatory note was presented by improving the existing guidance note for rules, and finally, the order of clauses within individual Incoterms rules was changed to further emphasize delivery and risk. Conclusions: This study pays attention to the understanding of academic content related to standard trade terms and conditions and how usefully it can be used in the business process of users in practice.

A Review on the International Trends for Establishing Post-2020 National Targets Relevant to Protected Areas - Focused on the CBD Decisions and Aichi target-11 Achievement Status - (Post-2020 국가 보호지역 목표 설정을 위한 국제동향 고찰 - 생물다양성협약 결정문 및 글로벌 목표 성취현황 분석을 중심으로 -)

  • This study aims to draw suggestions for establishing the Post-2020 national policy direction and goals related to protected areas in Korea by analyzing the trends of major discussion issues on protected areas in the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD) and reviewing the achievement progress of the Aichi target-11. Regarding the CBD decisions on protected areas, two decisions (Decisions II/7 and II/8) were adopted in 1995, and then the Program of Work on Protected Areas (PoWPA), which presented an ideal blueprint for protected areas, was adopted at the 7th Conference of the Parties (COP) in 2004. At the 10th COP in 2010, the "Strategic Plan for Biodiversity 2011-2020 and the Aichi Biodiversity Target" (Decision X/2) was adopted along with the Decision X/31, which presented ten key issues related to protected areas. The global outcomes of the Aichi Target-11 include 15% of the earth's land area and 7.4% of the ocean being designated as protected areas. In Korea, 16.63% of the land and 2.12% of the ocean have been designated as protected areas. However, the outcomes of the effective and equitable management, protection of areas important to biodiversity and ecosystem services, and identifying "Other effective area-based conservation measures" (OECMs) and linking them with protected areas have been found to be significantly short of global goals. The first draft of the Post-2020 Global Biodiversity Framework (Post-2020 GBF) prepared in January 2020 presented multi-step objectives. They included protecting at least 60% of particularly important sites for biodiversity through protected areas and other effective area-based conservation measures, at least 30% of the entire land and sea areas, and at least 10% of them under strict protection by 2030. The Updated Zero drafted in August 2020 concisely set out one quantitative goal of at least 30% of the globe by 2030, adding qualitative goals that these areas should be protected and conserved through "well connected and effective system of protected areas and OECMs at least 30 % of the planet with the focus on areas particularly important for biodiversity." Based on the draft Post-2020 GBF's targets related to protected areas and Korea's national targets reflecting the current state of Korea and established national plans, we suggest the national targets "to protect and conserve at least 30% of the land area and 10% of the marine area and to strengthen the means of qualitative achievement by establishing sub-targets through an effective system of protected areas and OECMs by 2030.".

Analyzing the Operational Efficiency of South Korea Wholesalers and Retailers during COVID-19 period (Q1 to Q2 2020) (우리나라 도소매기업의 운영효율성에 대한 실증분석: 코로나19 기간(2020년 1~2분기)을 중심으로)

  • We analyze the performance of South Korea wholesalers and retailers during the period when COVID-19 emerged and began to spread in South Korea. Specifically, we choose operational efficiency as a proxy variable for reflecting corporate performance and apply stochastic frontier analysis for estimating operational efficiency. Importantly, in order to examine the impact of the COVID-19 period (Q1 to Q2 2020) on operational efficiency, we consider the quarterly fixed effect corresponding to the COVID-19 period. Our findings include: (ⅰ) the average level of operational ffficiency is approximately 0.7138 during the analysis period (Q1 2019 to Q2 2020); (ⅱ) the fixed effect of the COVID-19 period on operational efficiency is not significant; and (ⅲ) operational efficiency is positively correlated with the scale of the company. Moreover, from an academic perspective, we make a contribution by examining the relationship between the operational efficiency as a firm-level variable and the COVID-19 period as a macroeconomic variable.

Comparison of the Mid-term Evaluation of Distance Lectures for the First Semester of 2020 and the First Semester of 2021: Targeting D Colleges in the Daegu Area (2020년도 1학기와 2021년도 1학기 원격수업에 대한 중간 강의평가 비교: 대구지역 D 전문대학을 대상으로)

  • Recently, the Ministry of Education stipulates in the distance class operation regulations that student lecture evaluations for distance learning subjects should be conducted at least twice per semester and the results should be disclosed to students. Therefore, the lecture evaluation of D college was compared with the first semester of 2020 and the first semester of 2021. As for the multiple-choice evaluation result of the distance learning mid-course evaluation, the overall average of the mid-course evaluation of the distance class in the first semester of 2020 increased from 4.1819 to 4.4000 in the mid-course evaluation in the first semester of 2021.In the case of the first semester of 2020, due to Corona 19, all non-face-to-face classes were held, but in the first semester of 2021, face-to-face classes increased. The overall satisfaction level rose from 4.18 points in the first semester of 2020 to 4.39 points in the first semester of 2021. The screen composition, sound and picture quality, playback time, face appearance, lecture material provision, and frequency of use of the top 3% and bottom 3% also increased. Despite the changes caused by the LMS replacement, which was a concern, student attendance, assignments, and test submission rates also increased compared to the previous year. The null hypothesis that 'the difference between the two scores is the same' is the null hypothesis because the probability of significance is 0.000 and less than 0.05 in the case of the best 3% of the test result of the test result of the mid-course evaluation of distance classes in the first semester of 2020 and the evaluation of the intermediate lectures in the first semester of 2021. As this was rejected, it can be seen that the best score for the 2021 school year has significantly increased compared to the first semester of 2020. Also, in the case of Worst 3% or less, the significance probability is 0.000, which is less than 0.05, so the null hypothesis that 'the difference between the two scores is the same' was rejected, indicating that the Worst score for the 2021 school year was significantly higher than that for the first semester of 2020.
