2020년 자살 관련 지표들과 추이 (Suicide Related Indicators and Trends in Korea in 2020)

  • The aim of this study was updating suicide-related indicators, including the number of suicidal deaths, suicide rate, and the prevalence of suicidal ideation and suicide attempts. We observed trends in suicide-related indicators based on up-to-date information. This study used five data sources to evaluate the trends of suicide-related indicators: Statistics Korea (1983-2020), Korean Wealth Panel Study (KOWEPS, 2012-2020), and Korea Health Panel Survey (KHP, 2010-2013, 2016-2018), Korean National Health and Nutrition Examination (KNHANES, 2007-2013, 2015-2020), and Korean Community Health Survey (KCHS, 2008-2009, 2013, 2017). The suicide rate per 100,000 population decrease from 26.9 in 2019 to 25.7 in 2020. Based on recently available data, the rates of suicidal ideation were 1.48% (KOWEPS, 2020), 2.61% (KHP, 2018), 4.62% (KNHANES, 2019), and 6.96% (KCHS, 2017). Those of suicide attempt as were 0.07% (KOWEPS, 2020), 0.44% (KNHANES, 2020), and 0.32% (KCHS, 2017). Annual percentage change (APC) of suicide rate was -1.87% (Statistics Korea, 2011-2020). APC of suicidal ideation was -10.7% (KOWEPS, 2012-2020), -11.5% (KHP, 2010-2013, 2016-2018), -14.7% (KNHANES, 2007-2013, 2015, 2017, 2019), and -2.5% (KCHS, 2008-2009, 2013, 2017). APC of suicide attempt was -11.3% (KOWEPS, 2012-2019), -5.2% (KNHANES, 2007-2013, 2015-2020), and -4.4% (KCHS, 2008-2009, 2013, 2017). Although the suicide rate in Korea has decreased compared to 10 years ago, it is still at a high level. Thus, continuous observation and appropriate suicide prevention policies are needed.

한국과 경제협력개발기구 국가의 질병부담 위치와 추이 비교 (Comparison of Position and Trend of Disease Burden in Korea and Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development Countries)

  • Background: This study aims to compare the burden of disease in Korea with other Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) countries using the OECD health statistics from 1985 to 2020. Methods: We analyzed potential years of life lost (YLL) per 100,000 population using the Positive value for relative comparison (PARC) index, trend test, and average annual percentage change (AAPC) with logistic regression analysis. Results: The relative disease burden was good for many diseases, but the disease burden was severe for a few diseases in Korea. Diseases with a high relative burden of disease in Korea are as follows; intentional self-harm (YLL2020 575.6, AAPCYLL 2.6%; PARC2020 -1.000, AAPCPARC -15.8%), malignant neoplasms of the liver (YLL2020 136.6, AAPCYLL -3.9%; PARC2020 -1.000, AAPCPARC 0.0%), malignant neoplasms of the stomach (YLL2020 9.0, AAPCYLL 3.2%; PARC2020 -0.556, AAPCPARC -22.9%), Parkinson's disease (YLL2020 575.6, AAPCYLL 2.6%; PARC2020 -1.000, AAPCPARC -15.8%). Conclusion: Diseases with a high burden of disease are needed to be prioritized in the planning and execution of healthcare policies that can contribute to the efficient use of healthcare resources.

Identification of a Marker Protein for Cardiac Ischemia and Reperfusion Injury by Two-Dimensional Gel Electrophoresis and Matrix-Assisted Laser Desorption Ionization Mass Spectrometry

  • The purpose of the present study was to evaluate the expression of cardiac marker protein in rabbit cardiac tissue that was exposed to ischemic preconditioning (IPC), or ischemiareperfusion injury (IR) using two-dimensional gel electrophoresis (2DE) and matrix-assisted laser desorption ionization mass spectrometry (MALDI-MS). We compared 2DE gels of control (uninjured) cardiac tissue with those of IPC and IR cardiac tissue. Expression of one protein was detected in IR heart tissue, however the protein was not detected in the samples of control and IPC tissue. To further characterize the detected protein molecule, the protein in the 2D gel was isolated and subjected to trypsin digestion, followed by MALDI-MS. The protein was identified as myoglobin, which was confirmed also by Western blot analysis. These results are consistent with previous studies of cardiac markers in ischemic hearts, indicating myoglobin as a suitable marker of myocardial injury. In addition, the present use of multiple techniques indicates that proteomic analysis is an appropriate means to identify cardiac markers in studies of IPC and IR.

2020년 동아시아지역에서 COVID-19 폐쇄로 인한 장거리 이동 PM10, NO2, O3 농도 변동성 분석 (Analysis of Concentration Variations of Long-Range Transport PM10, NO2, and O3 due to COVID-19 Shutdown in East Asia in 2020)

  • 2020년 중국의 COVID-19 폐쇄는 한국의 풍상측에 위치한 중국의 대기오염 배출량을 감소시켰다. 몽골 북부로부터 중국 동부를 거쳐 한반도에 이르는 지역에서는 2020년 1~2월에 기온 아노말리가 양(+)으로 온난하였고, 2020년 1월에는 동서류 아노말리가 음(-)으로 정체적인 특징을 보였다. 2019년 12월~2020년 3월에 한국 중부 서쪽의 석모리와 파도리에서 중국 배출량 감소의 영향에 따라 PM10, NO2, O3 농도 변동이 나타났다. 파도리에서 PM10, O3 월평균 농도와 최근 4년의 월평균 농도의 비는 2019년 12월과 비교하여 중국의 COVID-19 폐쇄 이후인 2020년 1~3월에 각각 0.7~4.7%, 9.2~22.8%로 감소하였다. 2020년 1월 중국의 춘절 기간에는 석모리와 파도리에서 PM10, NO2, O3 농도가 최근 4년의 춘절 기간과 마찬가지로 감소하였다. 그러나 2020년 1월 평균 농도가 최근 4년 1월과 비교하여 감소한 것은 중국 춘절 전후의 기간에도 배출량이 감소하였던 것과 관련 있다. 2020년 1~3월 석모리의 PM10, NO2, O3 농도의 비(${\bar{O}_s$/M)는 각각 70.8~89.7%, 70.5~87.1%, 72.5~97.1%이었고, 파도리에서도 각각 79.6~93.5%, 67.7~84.9%, 83.7~94.6%로 추정 월평균(M)보다 월평균(${\bar{O}_s$)이 감소하였다. 2020년 1월에 몽골 북부로부터 중국 동부와 한반도에 이르는 지역의 온난화로 인한 광화학 반응으로 최근 4년과 비교하여 AOD가 높게 나타났으나 2020년 3월에는 풍상측인 중국에서 2차 에어로졸을 생성하는 전구물질 배출 감소로 최근 4년과 비교하여 낮은 AOD 분포를 보였던 것으로 분석되었다.
