Effects of Surface Microstructure on Microwave Dielectric Properties of ZrO2-NiO added Ba(Zn1/3Ta2/3)O3 Ceramics (ZrO2와 NiO가 첨가된 Ba(Zn1/3Ta2/3)O3에서 표면 미세조직이 고주파 유전특성에 미치는 영향)

  • High frequency dielectric ceramics have potential for applications in mobile and satellite communications systems at frequencies higher than 10GHz. The Ba$(Zn_{1/3}Ta_{2/3})O_3$ ceramics are known to have a high quality factor, a small temperature coefficient of the resonance frequency and a high dielectric constant. On the other hands, sintering at high temperature for extended time is required to obtain the ordered structure for high quality factor. In this study, the microwave dielectric properties of $ZrO_2$ and NiO-added Ba$(Zn_{1/3}Ta_{2/3})O_3$ ceramics prepared by solid-state reaction have been investigated. Adding $ZrO_2$ and NiO could effectively promote the densification even the case of decreasing the sintering time. At the surface of samples, secondary phase of Ba-Ta compounds was formed possibly due to the evaporation of ZnO, however, the interior of the samples remained as pure Ba$(Zn_{1/3}Ta_{2/3})O_3$. The samples sintered at $1600^{\circ}C$ for 2h exhibited 1:2 ordering of Zn and Ta cations. Excellent microwave dielectric properties of $Q{\cdot}f$(>96,000 GHz) and ${\varepsilon}_r$=30 has been obtained.

Improvement of Field Uniformity in the Reverberation Chamber Using Diffusers Filled with Dielectric Material (유전체로 충진된 확산기를 이용한 전자파 잔향실 내의 전자기장 균일도 향상 연구)

  • Analysis on the field uniformity inside of a reverberation chamber was done at 2.45 GHz which is an operating frequency of MWO(Microwave Oven). The Schroeder's Quadratic Residue Diffuser was designed for the chamber, and 3 different types of diffusers have been investigated using the finite-difference time-domain(FDTD) method for the field characteristics of each type. Type 2 and 3 diffusers were filled with dielectric material, and the size of these could be designed smaller than Type 1, without degradation of field characteristic. Type 3 diffuser shows better results among the three types of diffusers in view of increased test region and better field uniformity.

Effect of Green Tea on Mixed Functon Oxidase System and Xanthine Oxidase Activities in Rat Liver Exposed to Microwaves (전자파를 조사한 흰쥐 간조직에서의 Mixed Function Oxidase System과 Xanthine Oxidase 활성에 미치는 녹차의 영향)

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate the changes of microsomal mixed function oxidase (MFO) and xanthine oxidase activities (XOD) in the liver of rats exposed to microwave. Sprague-Dawley male rats weighing 200$\pm$10g body weight were randomly assigned to a normal and microwave exposed(MW) groups; microwave exposed groups were divided into two groups; microwave (MW) group and green tea(GT) gropu which were fed distilled water and green tea extracts during experimental periods, respectively. Rats were irradiated with microwave at the frequency of 2.45 GHz for 15min and rats wre sacrificed at the 4th day of the microwave irradiaton. The hemoglobin level of GT group was higher than that of the normal gropu and MW group, but the hematocrit value was not significantly different among all experimental gropus. The activity of serum GOT of MW group was significantly increased but that of GT group was similar to normal group. Activities of GPT were not significantly different among all experimental groups. Liver XOD activity was significantly increased in the microwave exposed groups but green tea normalized the XOD activity. The activity of hepatic microsomal cytochrome P450 was significantly increased in MW group compared to normal group and that of GT group was similar to that of the normal group. The activity of hepatic microsomal NADPH-cytochrome P450 reductase was also significantly increased in MW group compared to normal group, but that of GT group was similar to that fo the normal group. In conclusion, the activities of MFO and XOD were elevated by microwave irradiaton, but the activation of MFO system as well as the damage of the liver by microwave were reduced by green tea supplementation.

The Structural and Microwave Dielectric Properties of the BMT Ceramics with Sintering Temperature and BCN Composition Ratio (소결온도와 BCN 초성에 따른 BMT 세라믹스의 구조 및 마이크로파 유전특성)

  • The microwave dielectric properties of Ba(Mg$_{1}$3/Ta$_{2}$3/O$_3$-Ba(Co$_{1}$3/Nb$_{2}$3/O$_3$[BMT-BCN] ceramics were investigated. The specimens were prepared by the conventional mixed oxide method with the sintering temperature of 15$25^{\circ}C$~1575$^{\circ}C$. It was found that Ba(Mg$_{1}$3/Ta$_{2}$3/O$_3$[BMT] and BCN formed a solid solution with complex perovskite structure. As increasing the mole fraction of BCN, dielectric constant increased while the temperature coefficient of resonant frequency was changed from positive to negative value. The highest value of quality factor, Q$\times$f$_{0}$=138,205GHz, obtained in the 0.9BMT-0.1BCN ceramics sintered at 1575$^{\circ}C$. In the range of x$\geq$0.4, the dielectric constant was about 30. The 0.55BMT-0.45BCN ceramics sintered at 15$25^{\circ}C$ for 5 hours showed the microwave dielectric properties of $\varepsilon$$_{r}$=30.21, Q$\times$f$_{0}$=85,789GHz and $\tau$$_{f}$=2.9015ppm/$^{\circ}C$.EX>.

High Frequency Simulations for the Meander Type Inductors on the MgO and Al2O3 Substrates (산화마그네슘 기판과 산화알루미늄 기판을 이용한 Meander 형태 인덕터의 고주파 시뮬레이션)

  • We have studied on the microwave characteristics for the meander type inductors on the MgO substrates and $Al_2O_3$ substrates by employing 3-D high frequency simulation, respectively. Proper designs of meander type inductors were proposed and confirmed through the high frequency simulations, 5, 7, 9, 11, and 13 turns meander type inductors have been choose to analyze the electrical properties for the microwave passive component applications. The Al top electrodes have 282 nm length, 45 nm width, 100 nm thickness and 15 nm gap. The simulations were carried out from 50 MHz to 30 GHz, Frequency dependent inductances and quality factor were calculated by employing the equivalent circuit model of meander type inductors. The self resonances frequency of meander type inductor were shifted from high frequency to low frequency range as the number of the turn of inductors was increased. From the microwave simulations, the inductances and quality factors of meander type inductors were extracted through the scattering parameter.

  • The thermal treatment have been combined with MRI which is able to acquire both an anatomical image with high-contrast and a thermal image, and have recently used for removing the tumor effectively. This study is to make a patch antenna which is designed to operate at 2.45GHz that has compatibility with MRI. The characteristic and specific absorption rate(SAR) were confirmed using computer simulation and confirmed a possibility of hyperthermia by performing experiment.

  • PZT ceramics were rapidly sintered in a 2.45GHz microwave oven without no addition of lead to the atmosphere and afterwards the piezoelectric properties were investigated. The specimens were sintered between 1050 and 1130$^{\circ}C$ with the sintering time totaling less then 20 minutes, reducing processing times and costs from those of established methods. The relative dielectric constant, mechanical quality factor and electro-mechanical coupling factor of the PZT specimens at 1090$^{\circ}C$ were 1990, 80,0.53 respectively, which is comparable to conventionally sintered values.

  • 최근 10여 년간 고광도 방전등 기술은 많은 발전이 있었다. 특히 마이크로파로 방전하는 무전극 황 방전등 (Microwave discharged electrodeless sulfur lamp)은 1990년대 초반 Fusion lighting에 의해 소개된 이후 많은 발전을 거듭하여 왔다. 마이크로 파 방전 무전극 황전등은 마그네트론에서 발생된 2.45 GHz의 마이크로파로 여기된 이원자 황으로부터 방출되는 빛을 조명에 사용한다. 전극이 없어 방전시 전극에 의한 전구의 손상이 없으므로 전구 자체의 수명은 반영구적이다. 이원자 황에서 방출된 빛은 가시광선 영역에서 연속적인 분광분포를 가지며 발광 효율은 100 lumen/W 이상으로 매우 높다. 본 논문에서는 전력연 구원에서 국내 최초로 제작한 마이크로파 방전형 무전극 황전등의 전반적인 특성을 소개한다.

Design of a 5.8 GHz Rectenna Using Dipole Antenna (5.8 GHz 다이폴 안테나를 이용한 렉테나 설계)

  • In this paper, a new rectenna is presented for the wireless transmission of microwave power using dipole antenna (Quasi Yagi effect) and rectifier of CPS resonator structure. The dipole antenna with CPW feedline has high peak gain than a general dipole antenna. A ground plane of CPW is used to reflect a dipole as a Yagi antenna. Therefore, the new rectenna receives the RF power better than the one using general dipole. A RF-to-DC conversion efficiency of 61 % using a 1.4 $k{\Omega}$ load resistor is obtained at 5.8 GHz.

A Study on the Efficient Germination of Acacia(Robinia pseudoacacia) Seeds using Electromagnetic Fields Energy (전자기장 에너지를 이용한 아까시 종자의 효율적 발아에 관한 연구 )

  • This paper utilized electromagnetic field energy as an external stimulus to enhance the germination rate of acacia(Robinia pseudoacacia) seeds. Electromagnetic field energy comprises three types: static magnetic field(SMF) energy, static electric field(SEF) energy, and microwave(MW) energy. When SMF energy was applied to seeds through a dry method for 90 minutes, the germination rate increased by more than 10% compared to the control group. Similarly, SEF energy applied through a dry method for 90 minutes resulted in an improvement of over 20% in the germination rate. Furthermore, when MW energy at 2.45 GHz was applied to the seeds through a wet method for 3 minutes, the germination rate increased by over 25%. Experimental results showed that seeds treated with MW energy exhibited the highest germination rate and the greatest sprout growth. Consequently, this paper confirms that treating seeds with MW energy through a wet method yields the most superior germination rate and seedling growth.
