  • In teleoperating, as seeing the monitor screen obtained from a camera instituted in the working environment, human operator generally controls the slave arm. Because we can see only 2-D image in a monitor, human operator does not know the depth information and can not work with high accuracy. In this paper, we proposed a traded control method using an visual sensor for the purpose of solving this problem. We can control a teleoperation system with precision when we use the proposed algorithm. Not only a human operator command but also an autonomous visual sensor feedback command is given to a slave arm for the purpose of coincidence current image features and target image features. When the slave arm place in a distant place from the target position, human operator can know very well the difference between the desired image features and the current image features, but calculated visual sensor command have big errors. And when the slave arm is near the target position, the state of affairs is changed conversely. With this visual sensor feedback, human does not need coincide the detail difference between the desired image features and the current image features and proposed method can work with higher accuracy than other method without, sensor feedback. The effectiveness of the proposed control method is verified through series of experiments.

Design of Calf Link Force Sensor of Walking Assist Robot of Leg Patients (편마비 다리환자를 위한 보행보조로봇의 발목 2축 힘센서 설계)

  • This paper describes the design and manufacture of a ankle two-axis force sensor of a walking assist robot for hemiplegic leg patient. The walking assist robot for the hemiplegic leg patient can safely control the robot by detecting whether the foot wearing the walking assist robot is in contact with the obstacle or not. To do so, a two-axis force sensor should be attached to the robot's ankle. The sensor is used to measure the force of a patient's ankle lower part. The two-axis force sensor is composed of a Fx force sensor, a Fy force sensor and a pulley, and they detect the x and y direction forces, respectively. The two-axis force sensor was designed using by FEM(Finite Element Method), and manufactured using by strain-gages. The characteristics experiment of the two-axis force sensor was carried out respectively. The test results indicated that the interference error of the two-axis force sensor was less than 1.2%, the repeatability error and the non-linearity of the two-axis force sensor was less than 0.04% respectively. Therefore, the fabricated two-axis force sensor can be used to measure the force of ankle lower part in the walking assist robot.

  • In this paper, we developed an optical sheet for LED lighting with integrated $CO_2$ gas and temperature sensor which can monitor at the indoor environment. The optical sheet for LED lighting is fabricated through PMMA(Polymethyl methacrylate) injection process using mold. This research enables to fabricate the reflective sheet, light-guide plate and the prism sheet in a optical sheet. The fabricated sheet demonstrates higher intensity of optical efficiency compared with single-sided sheets. The $CO_2$ sensor was fabricated using NDIR(NON-Dispersive Infrared) method and it has $0.0235mV/V{\cdot}PPM$ sensitivity. The temperature sensor was fabricated using RTD(Resistance temperature detector) method and it has $0.563{\Omega}/^{\circ}C $sensitivity.

  • For the activeness and autonomy of a sensor network, the efficient migration method of a mobile agent and the consistent naming services are the required components of a sensor network. Accordingly, this paper presented the implementation of backward migration of an active rule mobile agent applying the naming method based on RMI that used the meta_table including the informations about the components of a sensor network. This study implemented based on the extension of the forward migration[12], and the results of the various experiments present the efficacy of mobile agent middleware system and the possibility of constructing efficient sensor network application environment. And, the results of this study are able to enhance the adaptability on dynamic changes of environment in sensor network application development.

  • In this study, an investigation of a damage detection methodology for global condition assessment is presented. A particular emphasis is put on the utilization of wireless sensors for more practical, less time consuming, less expensive and safer monitoring and eventually maintenance purposes. Wireless sensors are deployed with a sensor roving technique to maintain a dense sensor field yet requiring fewer sensors. The time series analysis method called ARX models (Auto-Regressive models with eXogeneous input) for different sensor clusters is implemented for the exploration of artificially induced damage and their locations. The performance of the technique is verified by making use of the data sets acquired from a 4-span bridge-type steel structure in a controlled laboratory environment. In that, the free response vibration data of the structure for a specific sensor cluster is measured by both wired and wireless sensors and the acceleration output of each sensor is used as an input to ARX model to estimate the response of the reference channel of that cluster. Using both data types, the ARX based time series analysis method is shown to be effective for damage detection and localization along with the interpretations and conclusions.

Smart Optical Fingerprint Sensor for Robust Fake Fingerprint Detection

  • In this paper, a smart optical fingerprint sensor technology that is robust against faked fingerprints. A new lens and prism accurately detect fingerprint ridges and valleys that are needed to express a fingerprint's intrinsic characteristics well. The proposed technology includes light path configuration and an optical fingerprint sensor that can effectively identify faked fingerprint features. Results of simulation show the smart optical fingerprint sensor classifies the characteristics of faked fingerprints made from silicone, gelatin, paper, and rubber, and show that the proposed technology has superior detection performance with faked fingerprints, compared to the existing infrared discrimination method.

  • Shorted-turns can have significant effects on a generator and its performance. Shorted-turn sensor for synchronous generator's field winding have been developed. One of effective method detecting inter-turn short circuits on round rotor winding is a method using sensor detecting. But the method needs duplicate design of sensor for characteristic change according to types and forms of generator Thus sensing skill without sensor depend on change of electric property in generator. For the reason, this paper presents shorted-turns phenomenon and the characteristic analysis of shorted-turns In synchronous generator by using 2-D finite element method(FEM).

  • Wireless Sensor Networks(WSNs) are applied to many monitoring applications. Present sensor nodes can perform many functions at the same time and contain complex software. During the lifetime of sensor nodes, they are required to reprogram their software because of their new functions, software, software bug fixes. The nodes are inaccessible physically or it is very difficult to upgrade their software by one by one. To upgrade the software of sensor nodes in WSNs remotely, this paper presents an energy efficient method by selecting an optimal relay node. The CHR(Cluster Head Relay) method is compared with SPIN and RANDOM method. Three methods are simulated in NS-2 with the same environmental parameters. Simulation results show that CHR shows faster update time and less power consumption compared with other two methods.

  • In this paper, we propose neural network-based fault diagnosis method to diagnose of sensor in the gas monitoring system. In the proposed method, using thermal modulation of operating temperature of sensor, the signal patterns are extracted from the voltage of load resistance. Also, ART2 neural network is used for fault isolation. The performance and effectiveness of the proposed ART2 neural network based fault diagnosis method are shown by simulation results using real data obtained from the gas monitoring system.

C3H8 Gas Sensitivity of Pd, Pt-$SnO_2$ Gas Sensor with Varying Impregnation Method (함침 방법의 차이에 따른 Pd, Pt-$SnO_2$의 프로판 가스 감응성 변화)

  • The C3H8 gas sensitivities of SnO2, Pd-SnO2, Pt-SnO2 gas sensor are looked over with the impregnation method of PdCl2, H2PtCl6 solution on SnO2. The Cl- ion due to incomplete decomposition of PdCl2 at 80$0^{\circ}C$ for 30 min decrease the C3H8 gas sensitivity of SnO2, and the sensitivity is increased by the impreganation of H2PtCl6 solution on SnO2 because of its lower decomposition temperature compared with PdCl2. The C3H8 gas sensitivities of Pd-SnO2, Pt-SnO2 impregnated slightly after 1st sintering are larger than that of pure SnO2 sensor because very small amount of Cl- ion exist in sample due to smaller amount of impregnaiton.
