The wind flow and pollutant dispersion over a two-dimensional sinusoidal hilly obstacle with slope (the ratio of height to half width) of 0.7 have been investigated experimentally and numerically. Flow over a single sinusoidal hill model was visualized in a subsonic wind tunnel. The mean velocity profiles, turbulence statistics, and pollutant concentration distribution were measured at the Reynolds number based on the obstacle height (H=40mm) oft $2.6\times10^4$. Experimental results for flow over a flat ground were agreed with the theoretical and numerical results. When a pollutant source is located behind the hilly terrain, the pollutant dispersion appeared even in the upstream region due to recirculation flow.
In this paper, we present a 3D visualization method of medical image on PC. Using morphological method, we used to segment 2D medical images (X-ray CT, MRI). Presented method is treating in some detail two operations : dilation and erosion. Also known as an isosurface, using a constant density surface make a target organ in 3D. In the whole procedure for visualization. The medical images are implemented by using Visual C++ 5.0 in activeX and IDL(interactive data language) under PC environment.
The thrust vectoring concept has been used for use in new advanced supersonic aircraft. This study presents the performance characteristics of the thrust vectoring nozzle by visualizing the shock behaviors with Schlieren method. The scaled models were designed and manufactured to see the shock behaviors of the various airflow condition. Also we executed experimental tests to see the geometrical effects of the thrust vector nozzle by changing pitch angle and length of pitch flaps. From this study we could understand the supersonic flow characteristics of the thrust vector nozzle. The total thrust of thrust vector nozzle is diminished by increasing the flap angle. But there is an optimum flap length ratio for attaining the highest thrust level and proper pitch effect.

Concrete structures occupy the largest proportion of modern infrastructure, and concrete structures often have cracking problems. Existing concrete crack diagnosis methods have limitations in crack evaluation because they rely on expert visual inspection. Therefore, in this study, we design a deep learning model that detects, visualizes, and outputs cracks on the surface of RC structures based on image data by using a CNN (Convolution Neural Networks) model that can process two- and three-dimensional data such as video and image data. do. An experimental study was conducted on an algorithm to automatically detect concrete cracks and visualize them using a CNN model. For the three deep learning models used for algorithm learning in this study, the concrete crack prediction accuracy satisfies 90%, and in particular, the 'InceptionV3'-based CNN model showed the highest accuracy. In the case of the crack detection visualization model, it showed high crack detection prediction accuracy of more than 95% on average for data with crack width of 0.2 mm or more.
Because it is difficult on existing document retrieval systems to visualize the search result, search results show document titles and short summaries of the parts that include the search keywords. If the result list is long, it is difficult to examine all the documents at once and to find a relation among them. This study uses clustering to classify similar documents into groups to make it easy to grasp the relations among the searched documents. Also, this study proposes a two-level visualization algorithm such that, first, the center of clusters is projected to low-dimensional space by using multi-dimensional scaling to help searchers grasp the relation among clusters at a glance, and second, individual documents are drawn in low-dimensional space based on the center of clusters using the orbital model as a basis to easily confirm similarities among individual documents. This study is tested on the benchmark data and the real data, and it shows that it is possible to visualize search results in real time.
3-D image modeling is in high demand for automated visual inspection and non-destructive testing. It also can be useful in biomedical research, medical therapy, surgery planning, and simulation of critical surgery (i.e. cranio-facial). Image processing and image analysis are used to enhance and classify medical volumetric data. Analyzing medical volumetric data is very difficult In this paper, we propose a new image modeling method based on tetrahedrization to improve the visualization of three-dimensional medical volumetric data. In this method, the trivariate piecewise linear interpolation is applied through the constructed tetrahedral domain. Also, visualization methods including iso-surface, color contouring, and slicing are discussed. This method can be useful to the correct and speedy analysis of medical volumetric data, because it doesn't have the ambiguity problem of Marching Cubes algorithm and achieves the data reduction. We expect to compensate the degradation of an accuracy by using an adaptive sub-division of tetrahedrization based on least squares fitting.
Self-organizing map (SOM), a unsupervised learning neural network, has been developed by T. Kohonen since 1980's. Main application areas were pattern recognition and text retrieval. Because of that, it has not been spread to statisticians until late. Recently, SOM's are frequently drawn in data mining fields. Kohonen's SOM, however, needs improvements to become a statistician's standard tool. First, there should be a good guideline as for the size of map. Second, an enhanced visualization mode is wanted. In this study, principal components self-organizing map (PC-SOM), a modification of Kohonen's SOM, is proposed to meet such needs. PC-SOM performs one-dimensional SOM during the first stage to decompose input units into node weights and residuals. At the second stage, another one-dimensional SOM is applied to the residuals of the first stage. Finally, by putting together two stages, one obtains two-dimensional SOM. Such procedure can be easily expanded to construct three or more dimensional maps. The number of grid lines along the second axis is determined automatically, once that of the first axis is given by the data analyst. Furthermore, PC-SOM provides easily interpretable map axes. Such merits of PC-SOM are demonstrated with well-known Fisher's iris data and a simulated data set.

This study simulated the flood inundations of the Nakdong River catchment running through Yangsan, a small city located in the south eastern area of Korea by using the depth averaged two-dimensional hydrodynamic numerical model. The numerical model employs the staggered grid system including moving boundary and a finite different method to solve the Saint-Venant equations. A second order upwind scheme is used to discretize the nonlinear convection terms of the momentum equations, whereas linear terms are discretized by a second order Leap-frog scheme(Cho and Yoon, 1998). The numerical model was applied to a real topography to simulate the flood inundation of the Yangsan basin in Yangsan. The numerical result for urban district was visualization for three dimension. These results can be essentially utilized to construct the three dimensional inundation map after building the GIS-based database in local public organizations in order to protect the life and property safely.

A heat exchanging system employing the impinging air jet is still widely used In the various fields due to its inherent merits that include the easiness in engineering applications and the high heat and/or mass transfer characteristics. The purpose of this study is to investigate the enhancement of heat transfer and flow characteristics by placing a turbulence promoters in front of heat exchanging surface. In this study, a series of circular rods are placed at the upstream of a flat plate heat exchanger that is located at potential core region(H/W=2) of a two-dimensional impinging air jet. Heat transfer enhancement is achieved by inserting turbulence promoter that results in the flow acceleration and disturbance of boundary layer. The average Nusselt number of the flat plate with the turbulence promoters is found to be around 1.42 times higher than that of the flat plate without the turbulence promoters. Based on the results of flow visualization with a smoke wire, it is confirmed that the heat transfer enhancement is caused by the flow separation and disturbance of boundary layer by inserting the turbulence promoter.

A method for developing a visual information concept that analogously compares and analyzes macroscopic data changes in a simple form is needed. The development of the visual information concept requires the selection of visualization form, selection of rhetorical effects, and selection of digital expression elements. Among them, an example of a rhetorical effect selection method for effectively delivering visual information to a user is presented. In this study, metaphorical rhetoric, which allows data comparison and analysis from a macroscopic point of view, was selected for stock price analysis by period and industry. We present a two-dimensional three-stage shape change using a dandelion with spreading cockle hair as a metaphor and a three-dimensional three-stage shape change information expression method using a coral peony flower that changes shape and color according to time as a metaphor. Using this rhetorical metaphor, it is possible to compare macroscopic trading changes and stock prices by industry.
