  • This paper presents a 24 channel capacitive touch sensing ASIC. This ASIC consists of analog circuit part and digital circuit part. Analog circuits convert user screen touch into electrical signal and digital circuits represent this signal change as digital data. Digital circuit also has an I2C interface for operation parameter reconfiguration from host machine. This interface guarantees the stable operation of the ASIC even against wide operation condition change. This chip is implemented with 0.18 um CMOS process. Its area is about 3 $mm^2$ and power consumption is 5.3mW. A number of EDA tools from Cadence and Synopsys are used for chip design.

  • In this paper, an NMOS-diode eFuse OTP (One-Time Programmable) memory cell is proposed using a parasitic junction diode formed between a PW (P-Well), a body of an isolated NMOS (N-channel MOSFET) transistor with the small channel width, and an n+ diffusion, a source node, in a DNW (Deep N-Well) instead of an NMOS transistor with the big channel width as a program select device. Blowing of the proposed cell is done through the parasitic junction formed in the NMOS transistor in the program mode. Sensing failures of '0' data are removed because of removed contact voltage drop of a diode since a NMOS transistor is used instead of the junction diode in the read mode. In addition, a problem of being blown for a non-blown eFuse from a read current through the corresponding eFuse OTP cell is solved by limiting the read current to less than $100{\mu}A$ since a voltage is transferred to BL by using an NMOS transistor with the small channel width in the read mode.

  • Simultaneous observations of MODIS (Moderate-resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer) onboard the Aqua and Terra satellites and weather station at ground near the Inchon International Airport (37.2-37.7 N, 125.7-127.2 E) during the period from December 2002 to September 2004 have been utilized in order to analyze the characteristics of satellite-observed infrared (IR) and visible data under fog and clear-sky conditions, respectively. The differences $(T_{3.7-11})$ in brightness temperature between $3.75{\mu}m\;and\;11.0{\mu}m$ were used as threshold values for remote-sensing fog (or low clouds) from satellite during day and night. The $T_{3.7-11}$ value during daytime was greater by about 21 K when it was foggy than that when it was clear, but during nighttime fog it was less by 1.5 K than during nighttime clear-sky. The value was changed due to different values of emission of fog particles at the wavelength. Since the near-IR channel at $3.7{\mu}m$ was affected by solar and IR radiations in the daytime, both IR and visible channels (or reflectance) have been used to detect fog. The reflectance during fog was higher by 0.05-0.6 than that during clear-sky, and varied seasonally. In this study, the threshold values included uncertainties when clouds existed above a layer of fog.

  • FCC of U.S. permitted usage of unlicensed system on unused spectrum in TV white space after DTV transition. The unlicensed systems are required to avoid harmful interference to licensed users by employing geo-location database and spectrum sensing. The conventional spectrum sensing algorithms for ATSC signal were focused on detection of pilot signal. However, they can not guarantee detection of ATSC signal when pilot signal is attenuated by channel environment such as fading. To overcome drawbacks of conventional schemes, in this paper, we propose a signal detection and data fusion algorithm using cyclo-stationary feature weighted by signal energy. Simulation results verify that the proposed algorithm can provide 2dB SNR gain for 90% detection probability compare with the conventional scheme. We can reduce quiet period for spectrum sensing and improve signal detection probability by employing the proposed algorithm.

  • Recently, graphene based solution-gated field-effect transistors (SGFETs) have been received a great attention in biochemical sensing applications. Graphene and reduced graphene oxide (RGO) possess various advantages such as high sensitivity, low detection limit, label-free electrical detection, and ease of fabrication due to their 2D nature and large sensing area compared to 1D nanomaterials- based nanobiosensors. Therefore, graphene or RGO -based SGFET is a good potential candidate for sensitive detection of protons (H+ ions) which can be applied as the transducer in various enzymatic or cell-based biosensing applications. However, reports on detection of H+ ions using graphene or RGO based SGFETs have been still limited. According to recent reports, clean graphene grown by CVD or exfoliation is electrochemically insensitive to changes of H+ concentration in solution because its surface does not have terminal functional groups that can sense the chemical potential change induced by varying surface charges of H+ on CVD graphene surface. In this work, we used RGO -SGFETs having oxygen-containing functional groups such as hydroxyl (OH) groups that effectively interact with H+ ions for expectation of increasing pH sensitivity. Additionally, we also investigate RGO based SGFETs for bio-sensing applications. Hydroloytic enzymes were introduced for sensing of biomolecular interaction on the surface of RGO -SGFET in which enzyme and substrate are acetylcholinesterase (AchE) and acetylcholine (Ach), respectively. The increase in H+ generated through enzymatic reaction of hydrolysis of Ach by AchE immobilized on RGO channel in SGFET could be monitored by the change in the drain-source current (Ids).

  • We developed a CASE-II water model that will enable the simulation of remote sensing reflectance($R_{rs}$) at the coastal waters for the retrieval of suspended sediments (SS) concentrations from satellite imagery. The model has six components which are: water, chlorophyll, dissolved organic matter (DOM), non-chlorophyllous particles (NC), heterotrophic microorganisms and an unknown component, possibly represented by bubbles or other particulates unrelated to the five first components. We measured $R_{rs}$, concentration of SS and chlorophyll, and absorption of DOM during our field campaigns in Korea. In addition, we generated $R_{rs}$ from different concentrations of SS and chlorophyll, and various absorptions of DOM by random number functions to create a large database to test the model. We assimilated both the computer generated parameters as well as the in-situ measurements in order to reconstruct the reflectance spectra. We validated the model by comparing model-reconstructed spectra with observed spectra. The estimated $R_{rs}$ spectra were used to (1) evaluate the performance of four wavelengths and wavelengths ratios for accurate retrieval of SS. 2) identify the optimum band for SS retrieval, and 3) assess the influence of the SS on the chlorophyll algorithm. The results indicate that single bands at longer wavelengths in visible better results than commonly used channel ratios. The wavelength of 625nm is suggested as a new and optimal wavelength for SS retrieval. Because this wavelength is not available from SeaWiFS, 555nm is offered as an alternative. The presence of SS in coastal areas can lead to overestimation chlorophyll concentrations greater than 20-500%.

  • Generally, RFID systems are composed of one reader and several passive tags, and share the single wireless channel. For this reason, collisions occurwhen more than two tags simultaneously respond to the reader's inquiry. To achieve this problem, many papers, such as QT[8], HCT[10], BSCTTA[2], and QT-BCS[9], have been proposed. In this paper, we propose the tree-based anti-collision algorithm using a bit change sensing unit (TABCS) based on BSCTTA algorithm. The proposed algorithm can identify bits returned from tags through bit change sensing unit, even if multi collisions occur. So, it rapidly generates the unique prefix to indentify each tag, and reduce the total of bits. As the result, the cost of identifying all tag IDs is relatively reduced as compared with existing algorithms. It is verified through simulations that the proposed algorithm surpass other existing algorithms.

  • This research presents the effect of Asian dust on the derived sea surface temperature (SST) from measurements of the Advanced Very High Resolution Radiometer (AVHRR) instrument flown onboard NOAA polar orbiting satellites. To analyze the effect, A VHRR infrared brightness temperature (TB) is estimated from simulated radiance calculated from radiative transfer model on various atmospheric conditions. Vertical profiles of temperature, pressure, and humidity from radiosonde observation are used to build up the East Asian atmospheric conditions in spring. Aerosol optical thickness (AOT) and size distribution are derived from skyradiation measurements to be used as inputs to the radiative transfer model. The simulation results show that single channel TB at window region is depressed under the Asian dust condition. The magnitude of depression is about 2K at nadir under moderate aerosol loading, but the magnitude reaches up to 4K at slant path. The dual channel difference (DCD) in spilt window region is also reduced under the Asian dust condition, but the reduction of DCD is much smaller than that shown in single channel TB simulation. Owing to the depression of TB, SST has cold bias. In addition, the effect of AOT on SST is amplified at large satellite zenith angle (SZA), resulting in high variance in derived SSTs. The SST depression due to the presence of Asian dust can be expressed as a linear function of AOT and SZA. On the basis of this relationship, the effect of Asian dust on the SST retrieval from the conventional daytime multi-channel SST algorithm can be derived as a function of AOT and SZA.

  • Anoctamin 1 (ANO1) is an anion channel that is activated by changes in cytosolic $Ca^{2+}$ concentration and noxious heat. Although the critical roles of ANO1 have been elucidated in various cell types, the control of its gating mechanisms by $Ca^{2+}$ and heat remain more elusive. To investigate critical amino acid residues for modulation of $Ca^{2+}$ and heat sensing, we constructed a randomized mutant library for ANO1. Among 695 random mutants, reduced $Ca^{2+}$ sensitivity was observed in two mutants (mutant 84 and 87). Consequently, the E143A mutant showed reduced sensitivity to $Ca^{2+}$ but not to high temperatures, whereas the E705V mutant exhibited reduced sensitivity to both $Ca^{2+}$ and noxious heat. These results suggest that the glutamic acids (E) at 143 and 705 residues in ANO1 are critical for modulation of $Ca^{2+}$ and/or heat responses. Furthermore, these findings help to provide a better understanding of the $Ca^{2+}$-mediated activation and heat-sensing mechanism of ANO1.
