The Design of ONU and OLT for Dynamic Bandwidth Allocation on Ethernet PON (EPON의 동적대역폭할당을 위한 ONU와 OLT 설계)

  • The EPON has been actively studied as one of the access networks for the economic configuration of FTTH. The EPON must support the dynamic bandwidth allocation to the subscribers in order to support the QoS due to its base on Ethernet technology. EFM SG, which is actively working for the standardization of EPON, also recently decided to select DBA. Therefore in this paper, we designed a ONU buffer scheduling algorithm (AIWFQ) and a scheme of DBA(Class-based FCFS) for the OLT suitable for embodying MPCP of the EPON. In this paper, we proposed methods that the EPON system can make use of by measuring end to end process delay time and the buffer size in order to implement the algorithm by using the OPNET.

  • ATM-PON은 다중점 연결을 가능케 하는 망으로 이의 핵심 기술에는 레인징 기술이 포함된다. 하지만 이 레인징 기술 측면에서는 ATM-PON 망의 생존성을 고려해 볼 때, ATM-PON 시스템이 망 장애에도 불구하고 가입자에게 계속적인 서비스를 제공하기 위해서는 대체선로로의 보호 절제를 수행해야 하나 이때 주로 선로와 대체 선로 간의 거리차에 의한 트래픽 충돌 문제가 발생한다. 본 논문에서는 보호 절제가 일어날 때 이러한 레이징의 문제를 해결하기 위하여 전송 지연 초기 결정 방식(방안1), OLT 내 지연 방식(방안 2), 혼합형 방식(방안 3)의 세가지 해결 방안을 제안하였고, ITU-T G.983.1에서 제시한 네 가지 보호 절제 구성을 통해 각 방식을 비교 분석하였으며, 이들의 장. 단점을 파악하여 각각의 시스템에 적합한 방식을 제시하였다.

  • 기존 가입자망은 다양한 멀티미디어 서비스 트래픽에 대해 병목으로 작용하였으며 이에 대한 대안으로 광가입자망 기술 대두되었다. 광가입자망은 초기 설치비용이 매우 고가이기 때문에 기술 개발과 설치가 지연되었으나, 비용대비 효율성이 좋은 Passive Optical Network(PON) 기술이 개발됨에 따라 활기를 띠고 있다. 본 고에서는 MPLS/IP 백본으로 연결되는 Ethernet-PON 기반의 광가입자망에서, L2/L3 MPLS 기반의 망사업자가 제공하는 VPN 기술 개발을 위해 Optical Network Unit(ONU) 및 Optical Line Terminal(OLT)에서 지원해야 되는 기능에 대해 연구한다.

  • In this paper deals with PON Remote monitoring solution using Reflecting Filter. The current FTTH-PON can not be monitored in real time that Optical cable fault and Quality degradation of Splitter. To solve this problem, Monitoring can make Feeder Network and Splitter that Reflecting filter development using the basic structure of Fiber Bragg grating. Reflecting Filter is Quality Monitoring System shall provide tools for user to view and analyze degradation of cables and splitter in particular predict any gradual component degradation(Optical cable bending, splice, connector, etc) before it becomes service impacting. The Reflecting Filter solution is splitter down and confirm the fault location of optical cable and it will send central control station can be monitored system an alarm to the OLT. In other words, wavelength side branches Mating existing communication affairs (Coupler) using the core of one optical wavelength for live monitoring two wavelengths and sends the subscriber side modem and aggregation switch device remotely using a reflective optical line filter monitoring the study of the system. this study can development of Reflecting filter improve the average processing time of Optical cable fault and efficient Maintenance of the network.

Study on Sensitivity of Burst-Mode Optical Receiver Depending on Photodiode Capacitance (포토다이오드의 정전용량에 따른 버스트모드 광 수신소자의 수신감도 연구)

  • This study was carried out to commercialize FTTH by developing a burst mode optical receiver for E-PON. The optical receiver was manufactured by minimizing the capacitance of a photodiode to improve sensitivity for meeting 10, 20 km OLT Rx standard of E-PON at the transmission speed of 1.25 Gb/s. When bit-error ratio is $10^{-12}$ and PRBS is $2^5-1$, sensitivity is -26 dBm, loud/soft ratio is 23 dB. Both preamble time and guard time were set to 102.4 ns (128 bit). After comparing a photodiode whose capacitance is 0.53 pF with another photodiode whose capacitance has been minimized to 0.26 pF, we could see that sensitivity improved to 0.7 dBm and so did bandwidth to 190 MHz of burst mode for the optical receiver manufactured by the photodiode whose capacitance is 0.26 pF.

  • ■ 광통신용 렌즈는 광통신 시스템에 있어서 송신단과 수신단에 사용되는 하나의 부품으로 집광/발산의 결상 기능을 지니며, 광회로 부품과 광섬유 또는 수발광소자인 LD/PD와 광섬유를 효율 좋게 저손실로 접속하는 기능을 수행함. ■ 마이크로 렌즈는 마이크로 광학의 분야에 있어 광의 집광 및 평행 광으로의 변환에 빠질 수 없는 가장 기본적인 소자로서, 마이크로 렌즈의 종류로는 마이크로 볼 렌즈, 비구면 렌즈와 GRIN 렌즈가 대표적으로 있음. ■ 렌즈에 적용되는 사양으로서 렌즈의 유효 구경, 초점(focal point), 주점(principle point), 주점에서 초점까지의 거리인 초점 거리(focal length), 가상의 법선을 기준으로 빛이 입사되는 각도인 입사각, 빛이 다른 매질을 만나 반사되는 각도인 반사각, 서로 다른 매질을 빛이 통과할 때 굴절하는 굴절각 등이 있음. ■ 렌즈 모듈의 구조는 렌즈, 스페이서(spacer), 아리리스(Iris), 백링(back-ring), 바렐(Barrel)로 구성함. ■ LD 모듈에서 광원에 패브리 페로(FP)로 사용하는 것에는 볼 렌즈가, DFB 광원으로 사용하는 것으로는 비구면 렌즈가 사용하고 있음. 이를 위해 PON용에서는 G-PON의 OLT, ONU 측, GE-PON의 OLT측에는 비구면 렌즈가 사용되나 GE-PON의 ONU측에는 볼 렌즈가 주로 사용되고 있음. ■ 2012년 볼 렌즈 시장은 수량 기반으로 2011년 대비 9.7% 증가한 7,350만 개, 금액기반으로는 17.0% 증가한 3,125만$를 기록하였음. ■ 2012년 비구면 렌즈 시장은 수량 기반으로 2011년 대비 22.0% 증가한 2,220만 개, 금액 기반으로는 32.0% 증가한 8,900만$를 기록하였음. ■ 2012년 광통신용 렌즈 시장(볼 + 비구면)은 수량 기반으로 2011년 대비 12.3% 증가한 9,570만 개, 금액 기반으로는 27.7% 증가한 1억 2,063만$이었음.

  • This paper proposes a hybrid optical lines composed of single-mode fiber(SMF) and multi-mode fiber(MMF) for gigabit-capable Passive Optical Network(GPON) using a WDM method with a single light source per each channel, and reports the results of transmission performance the proposed lines. The transmission link uses a direct modulated DFB-LD for high speed downstreams at the optical line terminal(OLT) of central office(CO) and a low cost SFP type transceiver for low-speed upstream in optical network unit(ONU). To split or combine the transmission channels, wavelength MUX/DEMUX are used in the optical line section, and MMFs not longer than 1 km are attached to the SMF lines at the ONU side of the WDM-PON links. We have performed the transmission experiment on the downstream of 2.5 Gbit/s, and 1.25 Gbit/s, and the upstream of 1.25 Gbit/s, and 622 Mbit/s which are recommended by ITU-T G.984.2. The transmission margin and feasibility of the proposed links have been tested to be suitable up to 2.5 Gbit/s transmission.

  • In this paper, an asymmetric WDM-EPON transmission scheme is proposed to be used in a high speed access network system, which is required to implement the convergence of broadcast and communication. WDM is used for downstream transmission from OLT to access nodes, satisfying wide bandwidth requirement for broadcasting and various multimedia services. And an EPON scheme, which is cheaper than WDM, is applied to upstream transmission where less bandwidth is required. A transmission test in physical layer was performed successfully and the results are provided. If ONUs are to be used in a home gateway, its protocol should be appropriate to its traffic pattern. Voice is sensitive to a time delay while data is not. A new dynamic bandwidth assignment protocol for PON system, which can cope with various types of data in access network is proposed and its performance is analysed. A maximum cycle time is specified to achieve the QoS of signals sensitive to time delay. And a minimum window is specified to prevent the downstream control signals from uprising. It is shown by simulation that the proposed EPON protocol can provide a better performance than previous ones.

Improvement of Received Optical Power Sensitivity in Asymmetric 2.5Gbps/1.2Gbps Passive Optical Network with Inverse Return to Zero(RZ) coded Downstream and NRZ upstream re-modulation (역 RZ 부호로 코딩된 하향신호의 재변조를 이용한 비대칭 2.5Gbps/622Mbps 수동 광가입자 망에서의 수신 감도의 개선)

  • We propose the asymmetric 2.5Gbps/622Mbps PON(Passive Optical Network) in order to reduce the bandwith of filter at receiver with inverse RZ(Return to Zero) code coded downstream and NRZ(Non Return to Zero) upstream re-modulation. I theoretically analyze BER(Bit Error Rate) performance and the power sensitivity with the optimal threshold level by performing simulation with MATLAB according to the types of downstream data. The results have shown that the optimal threshold level at the optical receiver could be saturated at 0.33 as the optical received power increase more than -26dBm to keep $10^{-12}$ of BER to a minimum. Also the power sensitivity is more improved by about 3dB by fixing the threshold level at 0.33 than the conventional receiver. The proposed system can be a useful technology for optical access networks with asymmetric upstream and downstream data rates because the optical receiver can be used without controlling threshold levels and that does not require a light source in optical network unit (ONU) and its control circuits in the optical line termination (OLT).
