  • This paper presents a new control scheme for a DVR (Dynamic Voltage Restorer) system consisting of series voltage source PWM converters. To control the negative sequence components of the source, it is necessary to detect the negative sequence components. Generally, a filtering process is used which has some undesirable effects. This paper suggests a new method for separating positive and negative sequences components. This control system is designed using differential controllers and digital filters. The positive and negative sequences are extracted and controlled individually. The performance of the presented controller and scheme are confirmed through simulation and actual experiment with a 2.5kVA prototype DVR system.

  • Recent trend of increasing automated factories needs supply of high quality power from the utilities. Among the items of the power quality, voltage sag can be compensated by Dynamic Voltage Restorer(DVR). The key feature of the DVR is high response with less transient period to recover from the voltage sag due to the lightning or line-to-ground faults. In this paper we report that H controller is very premising for the practical application to the controller of DVR. Experiment al results shown in this paper was obtained by applying the control algorithm to 20 kVA DVR system. The experimental set consist s of IGBT - based three phase inverter and the TMS320C32- 60 DSP used for main processor of the control board. T$\infty$ simulate the 50% voltage ...

  • Direct volume rendering (DVR) is a commonly used method to visualize inner structures in 3D volumetric datasets. However, conventional volume rendering on a 2D display lacks depth perception due to dimensionality reduction caused by ray casting. In this work, we investigate how emerging Virtual Reality (VR) can improve the usability of direct volume rendering. We developed real-time high-resolution DVR system in virtual reality, and measures the usefulness of volume rendering with improved depth perception via a user study conducted by 38 participants. The result indicates that virtual reality significantly improves the usability of DVR by allowing better depth perception.

  • In this paper, we mainly discuss Gorenstein Dedekind do-mains (G-Dedekind domains for short) and their overrings. Let R be a one-dimensional Noetherian domain with quotient field K and integral closure T. Then it is proved that R is a G-Dedekind domain if and only if for any prime ideal P of R which contains ($R\;:_K\;T$), P is Gorenstein projective. We also give not only an example to show that G-Dedekind domains are not necessarily Noetherian Warfield domains, but also a definition for a special kind of domain: a 2-DVR. As an application, we prove that a Noetherian domain R is a Warfield domain if and only if for any maximal ideal M of R, $R_M$ is a 2-DVR.

  • This paper proposes a quasi Z-source DVR(Dynamic Voltage Restorer) system with a series connection of the output terminals, to compensate the voltage variations in the 6.6[kV]/60[Hz] power distribution system. The conventional DVR using one quasi Z-source AC-AC converter has the advantage which it can compensate the voltage variations without the need for the additional energy storage device such as a battery, but it is impossible to compensate for the 50[%] under voltage sags. To solve this problem, a DVR system using two quasi Z-source AC-AC converters with the series connection of the output terminals is proposed. By controlling the duty ratio D in the buck-boost mode, the proposed system can control the compensation voltage. For case verification of the proposed system, PSIM simulation is achieved. As a result, in case that the voltage sags-swells occur 10[%], 20[%], 60[%] in power distribution system, and, in case that the 50[%] under voltage sags-swells continuously occur, all case could compensate by the proposed system. Especially, the compensated voltage THD was examined under the condition of the 10[%]~50[%] voltage sags and the 20[${\Omega}$]~100[${\Omega}$] load changes. The compensated voltage THD was worse for the higher load resistances and more severe voltage sags. Finally, In case of the voltage swells compensation, the compensation factor has approached nearly 1 regardless of the load resistance changes, while the compensation factor of voltage sags was related to the load variations.

  • This study was carried out to determine the availability of development rate(DVR) model for predicting bud break time of 'Niitaka' pear. In addition, the study also assessed the effect of an increase in temperature on predicting bud dormancy breaking time in winter season. The DVR model, which was developed for 'Kosui' pear, illustrated that the bud break time(e.g., Dec. 12-Dec. 19) of 'Niitaka' pear observed in the field corresponded to the predicted bud break time by DVR model. This result indicates that the bud break time of 'Niitaka' pear can be predicted by DVR model tuned for 'Kosui' pear. As the temperature increased during the winter season, the bud break time was delayed. Chilling requirement deficiency for the bud break time is expected in Jeju Province when the temperature increased above $4^{\circ}C$ in winter season.

  • This paper describes the development of a single-phase DVR(Dynamic voltage Restorer), which is composed of H-bridge inverter and super-capacitors. The operational feasibility was verified through computer simulations with PSCAD/EMTDC software, and experimental works with 3kVA prototype. The developed system can compensates the input voltage sag and interruption within 2ms, in which the maximum allowable duration of voltage interruption is 1.5 seconds. It can be effectively used to compensate the voltage interruption in the sensitive load, such as computer, communication equipment, automation equipment, and medical equipment. The developed system has a simple structure to be easily implemented with commercially available components and to be highly reliable in operation.

  • The most common power quality problems in distribution systems are related to unbalanced voltage sags. Voltage sags must be detected quickly and corrected in a minimum amount of time. One of the most widely used methods for sag detection is based on the d-q transformation. This method has the disadvantage of missing the detection of unbalanced faults, because this method uses a voltage sag level signal obtained from the average of 3 phases for sag detection. In this paper, an adaptive filter sag detection method is proposed for Dynamic Voltage Restorers (DVR) under unbalanced fault conditions. The proposed DVR controller is able to detect balanced, unbalanced and single phase voltage sags. A novel reference voltage generation method is also presented. To validate the proposed control methods, a 3-phase DSP controlling a DVR prototype with a power rating of 1.5-kVA has been developed. Finally, experimental results are presented to verify the performance of the proposed control methods.

  • Voltage sags are considered the dominant disturbances affecting power quality. Dynamic voltage restorers(DVRs) are mainly used to protect sensitive loads from the electrical network voltage disturbances such as sags or swells and could be used to reduce harmonic distortion of ac voltages. The typical DVR topology essentially contains a PWM inverter with LC Filter, an injection transformer connected between the ac voltage line and the sensitive load, and a DC energy storage device. For injecting series voltage, the PWM inverter is used and the passive filter consist of inductor(L) and capacitor(C) for harmonics elimination of the inverter. However there are voltage pulsation responses by the characteristic of the LC passive filter that eliminate the harmonics of the PWM output waveform of the inverter. Therefore, this paper presented design and feedback performance of LC filter used in the DVRs. The voltage control by LC filter should be connected in the line side since this feedback method allows a relatively faster dynamic response, enabling the elimination of voltage notches or spikes in the beginning and in the end of sags and strong load voltage THD reduction. Illustrative examples are also included.
