Effect of near field earthquake on the monuments adjacent to underground tunnels using hybrid FEA-ANN technique

  • In the past decades, effect of near field earthquake on the historical monuments has attracted the attention of researchers. So, many analyses in this regard have been presented. Tunnels as vital arteries play an important role in management after the earthquake crisis. However, digging tunnels and seismic effects of earthquake on the historical monuments have always been a challenge between engineers and historical supporters. So, in a case study, effect of near field earthquake on the historical monument was investigated. For this research, Finite Element Analysis (FEM) in soil environment and soil-structure interaction was used. In Plaxis 2D software, different accelerograms of near field earthquake were applied to the geometric definition. Analysis validations were performed based on the previous numerical studies. Creating a nonlinear relationship with space parameter, time, angular and numerical model outputs was of practical and critical importance. Hence, artificial Neural Network (ANN) was used and two linear layers and Tansig function were considered. Accuracy of the results was approved by the appropriate statistical test. Results of the study showed that buildings near and far from the tunnel had a special seismic behavior. Scattering of seismic waves on the underground tunnels on the adjacent buildings was influenced by their distance from the tunnel. Finally, a static test expressed optimal convergence of neural network and Plaxis.

Comparison of Cellular Fatty Acid Composition and Genotypic Analysis of Bifidobacterium longum MK-G7 with Commercial Bifidobacteria Strains

  • This study was conducted to compare the cellular fatty acid composition and genotypic analysis of Bifidobacterium longum MK-G7 originated from Koreans with other commercial type strains of bifidobacteria. The cellular fatty acid of Bif. longum MK-G7 was shown to be composed of $C_{160FAME},C_{181\;c18DMA},C_{18.1\;CIS9\; FAME},C_{14.0FAME},C_{19\;0cye9,10 DMA},Feature7(C_{17.2 FAME), and Feature 10(C_{181\; Cll/t9/t6 FAME}$. Bif. longum MK-G7 showed 99.9% homology and the highest relatedness with Bif. longum ATCC 15707 type strain. Both Bif. longum MK-G7 and Bif. longum ATCC 15707 showed 153 bp products on RAPD (randomly amplified polymorphic DNA) analysis, however, they showed quite different band patterns on PFGE (pulsed-field gel electrophoresis) analysis. Consequently, our present study showed that Bif. longum MK-G7 was different from any commercial type strains of Bif. longum tested.

Transverse Flux Linear Machine with High Thrust for Direct Drive Applications

  • This paper describes the development of a novel transverse flux linear motor (TFLM) excited by permanent magnets (PMs). It combines the advantage of two different TFLMs and produces high thrust with reduced normal force. The magnetic field is analyzed by combining the three-dimensional (3D) equivalent magnetic circuit network (EMCN) method with 2D finite element analysis. The experimental findings of the prototype motors are in good agreements with the analysis results, and demonstrate the potential of the proposed motor as a direct drive requiring relatively long displacement of a mover.

  • N-phenylbenzenesulfonamide 및 N-phenyl-2-thienylsulfonamide 유도체(1-34)들의 phenyl 및 theinyl 고리상치환기(R1-R5) 변화에 따른 모잘록병균(Pythium ultimum)의 살균활성에 관한 3차원적인 정량적 구조와 활성과의 관계(3D-QSARs)들을 비교 분자장 분석(CoMFA)과 비교분자 유사성 지수분석(CoMSIA) 방법으로 각각 검토하였다. 전반적으로 CoMSIA 모델들의 통계값은 atom based fit 정렬보다는 field fit 정렬시에 높은 값을 나타내었으나 CoMFA모델의 경우에는 차이가 없었다. 그리고 CoMSIA (FF1) 모델($r_{cv.}^2\;(q^2)=0.674$$r_{ncv.}^2=0.964$)이 CoMFA (AF5) 모델($r_{cv.}^2\;(q^2)=0.616$$r_{ncv.}^2=0.930$)보다 상관성과 예측성이 양호하였다. CoMSIA (FF1) 모델의 정보에 따라 살균활성은 분자의 정전기장과 소수성장에 의존적이었다. 또한, CoMSIA (FF3) 모델의 등고도 분석 결과로부터 N-phenyl 고리상 R4-치환기의 친수성과 수소결합 받게로서의 성질인 모잘록병균의 살균활성에 기여할 것으로 예상되었다.

  • This paper employed a systematic analysis using a 2-D hybrid special finite element containing an edge crack in order to describe the fracture behavior of spot-welds in automotive structures. The 2-D hybrid special finite element is derived form a mixed formulation with a complex potential function with the description of the singularity of a stress field. The hybrid special finite element containing an edge crack can give a better description of its singularity with only one hybrid element surrounding one crack. The advantage of this special element is that it can greatly simplify the numerical modeling of the spot welds. Some numerical examples demonstrate the validity and versatility of the present analysis method. The lap-shear, lap-tension and angle-clip specimens are analyzed and some useful fracture parameters such as the stress intensity factor and the initial direction of crack growth are obtained simultaneously.

3${\beta}$-Hydroxy-12-oleanen-28-oic Acid 유도체들의 PTP-1B저해활성에 대한 CoMSIA분석 (CoMSIA Analysis on The Inhibition Activity of PTP-1B with 3${\beta}$-Hydroxy-12-oleanen-28-oic Acid Analogues)

  • 기질 화합물로써 3${\beta}$-Hydroxy-12-oleanen-28-oic acid 유도체(1-30)들과 그들의 protein tyrosine phosphatase(PTP)-1B 저해활성에 관한 비교분자 유사성 지수분석(CoMSIA)보델을 유도하였다. QSAR 모델의 통계 값은 CoMFA>CoMSIA${\geq}$HQSAR>2D-QSAR 모델의 순서로 양호하였다. 최적화된 CoMSIA F1 모델은 grid 3.0${\AA}$과 field fit 정렬조건에서 가장 족은 예측성과 상관성($r^2_{cf}$=0.754 및 $r^2_{ncv}$=0.976)을 나타내었다. 저해 활성에 관한 CoMSIA상의 기여비율(%)은 수소결합 받게장(48.9%), 입체장(25.8%) 및 소수성장(25.4%)의 순서이었다. 그러므로 기질 화합물의 PTP-1B에 대한 저해활성은 $R_4$-치환기의 수소결합 받게 장(A)에 의존적이었다. 등고도 분석 결과로부터 $R_1$-치환기는 수소결합 받게장이 작고 $R_3$-치환기는 입체장이 작으며 그리고 $R_4$-치환기는 수소결합 받게장, 소수성 및 입체장이 큰 치환기가 저해활성을 증가시킬 것으로 예측되었다.

건설용 3D 프린팅 기술의 해외 사례 조사 및 국내 상용화 방안 (Overseas Case Study of 3D Printing Technology for Construction and Commercialization Plan in Korea)

  • 3D printing technology in the construction field is currently being developed and commercialized actively in foreign countries, but the development of material and equipment is underway as an initial research stage in Korea. It is necessary to implement commercialization through the introduction of 3D printing technology in the construction field as soon as possible in Korea, but there is no guideline for suitable equipment and materials in Korea at present. Therefore, in order to help prepare for commercialization, it is necessary to provide data such as equipment size and materials suitable for commercialization at the initial stage. This study investigates the types, specifications, and applications of equipment that are being used overseas to provide the equipment type and material cost required in the initial stage of commercialization in Korea. Using the surveyed data, it was possible to calculate the advantages and disadvantages of the equipment type and specification, and the cost of materials used. As a result of the analysis, Gantry type is suitable for the domestic commercialization, and the standard of the output area is $100m^2$ and the extrusion amount of $250m^3/sec$ is proposed, and the material cost of the commercial product is 20thousand won. The suggestions in this study will help to plan the construction of products and equipments to commercialize 3D printing technology in construction field in the future.

농촌지역의 질산성질소 거동 해석을 위한 모델 개발 및 현장 적용 (Model Development for Analysis of Nitrate Leaching and Its Field Application in a Rural Area)

  • 본 연구에서는 농업지역에서의 양수, 관개, 탈질작용을 고려한 불포화대 및 포화대 지하수 흐름 및 용질이동 모델인 VSFRT2D(Variably Saturated Flow and Reactive Transport model)를 개발하였다. VSFRT2D는 Richards equation을 지하수 흐름 지배방정식으로 이용하며, Thornthwaite 방법을 이용하여 강수가 일어나지 않을 때 지표면 증발산량 계산 절차를 포함하는 새로운 모델을 개발함으로써 기존의 불포화대 모델을 개선하였다. 또한 Monod kinetics에 기반한 생분해 기작을 네 개의 비선형 오염물 거동식과 세 종류의 미생물 거동식을 이용함으로서 탈질작용을 이 모델에 반영하였다. 개발된 모델을 질산성질소로 오염된 홍성 지역의 현장 관측 자료에 적용하였다. 본 연구에서는 강수, 양수, 증발산, 관개, 비료 투여 및 다양한 생분해 과정들이 지하수 흐름 및 오염물 거동에 미치는 효과들을 확인하기 위하여 각각의 과정을 개별적으로 나누어서 수치 모의한 후 각각의 결과를 상호 비교하였다. 수치 모의 결과 이 지역에서의 질산성 질소 농도 변화는 생분해에 의한 영향은 매우 미미하게 나타났다. 반면에 관개에 의한 양수, 강수, 질소 비료 시비에 의해서는 크게 영향을 받았다.

제어봉을 부착한 원형실린더 주위 유동제어에 관한 연구 (A Study on the Flow Control around a Circular Cylinder by Control rods)

  • 부표시스템 침수체의 주요형상인 원형실린더에 제어봉을 부착하여 2차원 단면의 유동특성에 대해서 수치해석을 수행하였다. 유속을 0.1m/s에서 0.5m/s로 변화시키면서 부표시스템 주위의 유동현상을 파악하고 부표시스템의 효과적인 유통제어를 위해 실린더 (D=50mm)에 제어봉의 직경을 0.1D 에서 O.5D 까지 부착하여 조류에 의한 영향을 조사하였다. 유동장내의 속도분포는 PIV계측기법 중 2 프레림 입자추적법을 사용하여 수치해석의 정도를 높이고자 0.3m/s에서 비교 평가하였다. 실린더 주위의 압력분포는 0.2D 의 제어봉을 부착하였을 경우, 유속의 변화에 관계없이 가장 양호한 경향을 보이는 것을 알 수 있었다.

Application of Three-Dimensional Light Microscopy for Thick Specimen Studies

  • The thickness of specimen is an important factor in microscopic researches. Thicker specimen contains more information, but it is difficult to obtain well focused image with precise details due to optical limit of conventional microscope. Recently, a microscope unit that combines improved illumination system, which allows real time three-dimensional (3D) image and automatic z-stack merging software. In this research, we evaluated the usefulness of this unit in observing thick samples; Golgi stained nervous tissue and ground prepared bone, tooth, and non-transparent small sample; zebra fish teeth. Well focused image in thick samples was obtained by processing z-stack images with Panfocal software. A clear feature of neuronal dendrite branching pattern could be taken. 3D features were clearly observed by oblique illumination. Furthermore, 3D array and shape of zebra fish teeth was clearly distinguished. A novel combination of two channel oblique illumination and z-stack imaging process increased depth of field and optimized contrast, which has a potential to be further applied in the field of neuroscience, hard tissue biology, and analysis of small organic structures such as ear ossicles and zebra fish teeth.
