  • In this study, the new modeling scheme has been developed for recently designed and tested electromagnetic survey, which adapts horizontal magnetic dipole with $1\;kHz\~1\;MHz$ frequency range as a source. The 2.5-D secondary field formulation in wavenumber domain was constructed using finite element method and verified through comparing results with layered-earth solutions calculated by integral equations. 2-D conductive- and resistive-block models were constructed for calculating electric field, magnetic field and impedance - the ratio of electric and magnetic fields which are orthogonal each other. This study showed that electric field and impedance are superior in identifying 2-D isolated-body model to magnetic field. In particular, impedance gives more stable results than electric field with similar spatial resolving power, because electric field is divided by magnetic field in impedance. Thus the impedance analysis which uses electric and magnetic fields together would give better result in imaging the shallow anomalies than conventional EM method.

  • Due to the advantages of low transmit power consumption, high spectral efficiency and extended system coverage, Device-to-Device (D2D) communication has drawn explosive attention in wireless communication field. Considering that intra-cell interference caused between cellular signals and D2D signals, in this paper, a network coding-based D2D relay cooperative transmission algorithm is proposed. Under D2D single-hop relay transmission mode, cellular interfering signals can be regarded as useful signals to code with D2D signals at D2D relay node. Using cellular interfering signals and network coded signals, D2D receiver restores the D2D signals to achieve the effect of interference suppression. Theoretical analysis shows that, compared with Amplify-and-forward (AF) mode and Decode-and-forward (DF) mode, the proposed algorithm can dramatically increase the link achievable rate. Furthermore, simulation experiment verifies that by employing the proposed algorithm, the interference signals in D2D communication can be eliminated effectively, and meanwhile the symbol error rate (SER) performance can be improved.

  • In this study, the methods of sedimentation reduction for the estuary barrage were analyzed using the CCHE2D bed change model. Especially, the effectiveness of sediment dredging currently applied in the field was evaluated quantitatively and also the channel contraction method which is a substitute method was analyzed for the Nakdong River Estuary Barrage (NREB). The numerical model was calibrated and validated for the sediment transport equations and transport modes. In the NREB case, the Ackers and White formula and bed load type was the most similar to the field condition. As a results of the dredging simulation, there was the sedimentation reduction effect of 0.2 m in the bed changes. Furthermore, the analysis result of the channel contraction method represented that the sedimentation reduction effects of the average 0.4 m and the maximum 2.0 m were produced.

  • Resistivity inversion result may be distorted if the seepage line fluctuation within central core with the change of reservoir water level as well as the conductivity of the reservoir water is not taken into consideration because the reservoir dike is composed of three-dimensional (3D) resistivity structure. Consequently, to accurately analyze the resistivity changes inside the reservoir dike according to the change of reservoir water level, 3D electrical resistivity modeling for the 2D survey line considering topography and physical properties of dam components was carried out. In addition, 2D inversion was performed with the simulated 2D resistivity data for a given 3D model in order to compare it with the inversion result of real field data. For 283 reservoirs in Korea, 2D inversion results for the simulated 2D data and field 2D resistivity data were compared. Finally, the reservoirs with an inversion ratio of 50% or less were selected as reservoirs that require further precise investigation.

  • This paper presents a novel method for the transient of eddy currents in the dampers of a super-conducting synchronous generator(SCG). The method proposes a 2-D corrected model which takes into account the influence of leakage fluxes of the field winding ends by increasing the effective air gap in order to consider the high precision of the analysis for the conventional 2-D model. The electromagnetic fields for the corrected model are analyzed by the time-stepping finite element method, thus the eddy currents in the dampers and electro-motive forces(EMF) in the stator windings are calculated. As the results, it is proved the presented method is comparatively accurate by comparing measured phase EMF values and the simulation ones, where about 6.4% error at the maximum value of EMF is occurred between them.

  • This paper deals with steady-state analysis of a single-phase line-start permanent magnet synchronous motor. In order to analyze the steady-state characteristics, the asymmetric single-phase line-start synchronous motor is converted to the symmetric two-phase synchronous motor, that is, the asymmetric magnetic field is separated from the positive and the negative symmetric components using symmetrical-component theory. The analysis method of the synchronous motor on the d-q axis coordinates is used for the positive component and the equivalent circuit of the induction motor is applied for the negative component analysis. Moreover, d-q axis inductance considering current phase angle is applied to positive component analysis for precise characteristic analysis. In order to validate the proposed analysis method, the analysis results are compared with the experimental results.

  • In this study, field pull-out test and 3-D FEM analysis have been performed for examining and reflecting the behavior of steel pipe nailing installed foldable wedge. Field pull-out test was performed under various conditions. As a result, the steel pipe nailing installed foldable wedge has an effect of pull-out resistance increased about 30% in comparison with non-wedge type steel pipe nailing. Through back analysis in 3-D FEM for behavior of non-wedge type steel pipe nailing, friction characteristics between nail to soil was analyzed and obtained first consistent with field pull-out behavior. Then, the frictional characteristic was used for analyzing the behavior of the steel pipe nailing installed foldable wedge. The result was compared with the test results. Consequently, friction coefficient (${\mu}$) of about 1.2 between grout to soil leads to good agreement with analysis results and test results. And a limited pull-out resistance, $$T_L{\sim_=}32$$ tonf is similar to field pull-out test result which is improved about 33% in comparison with non-wedge type steel pipe nailing's $$T_L{\sim_=}24$$ tonf.

  • In this study, we have performed systematical FEM analysis for design of open-ended 3-layer magnetic shield. For the simulation to calculated shielding factors, the relative permeability was varied in the range of $2{\times}10^3\sim1{\times}10^5$, and the length of the magnetic cylinders and length difference between layers were changed. We found that the shielding factor of -60 dB were obtained with the relative permeability of over 20000 and the lengths of magnetic layers of 40 cm, 45 cm and 50 cm, and the uniform magnetic field could be obtained in the range of $10cm{\times}10cm-\phi$.

  • In this paper, we demonstrate that Common Mid-Point (CMP) cross-correlation gathers of multi-channel and multi-shot surface waves give accurate phase-velocity curves, and enable us to reconstruct two-dimensional (2D) velocity structures with high resolution. Data acquisition for CMP cross-correlation analysis is similar to acquisition for a 2D seismic reflection survey. Data processing seems similar to Common Depth-Point (CDP) analysis of 2D seismic reflection survey data, but differs in that the cross-correlation of the original waveform is calculated before making CMP gathers. Data processing in CMP cross-correlation analysis consists of the following four steps: First, cross-correlations are calculated for every pair of traces in each shot gather. Second, correlation traces having a common mid-point are gathered, and those traces that have equal spacing are stacked in the time domain. The resultant cross-correlation gathers resemble shot gathers and are referred to as CMP cross-correlation gathers. Third, a multi-channel analysis is applied to the CMP cross-correlation gathers for calculating phase velocities of surface waves. Finally, a 2D S-wave velocity profile is reconstructed through non-linear least squares inversion. Analyses of waveform data from numerical modelling and field observations indicate that the new method could greatly improve the accuracy and resolution of subsurface S-velocity structure, compared with conventional surface-wave methods.
