Scalable Multi-view Video Coding based on HEVC

  • In this paper, we propose an integrated spatial and view scalable video codec based on high efficiency video coding (HEVC). The proposed video codec is developed based on similarity and uniqueness between the scalable extension and 3D multi-view extension of HEVC. To improve compression efficiency using the proposed scalable multi-view video codec, inter-layer and inter-view predictions are jointly employed by using high-level syntaxes that are defined to identify view and layer information. For the inter-view and inter-layer predictions, a decoded picture buffer (DPB) management algorithm is also proposed. The inter-view and inter-layer motion predictions are integrated into a consolidated prediction by harmonizing with the temporal motion prediction of HEVC. We found that the proposed scalable multi-view codec achieves bitrate reduction of 36.1%, 31.6% and 15.8% on the top of ${\times}2$, ${\times}1.5$ parallel scalable codec and parallel multi-view codec, respectively.

A Study on a Secure Coding Library for the Battlefield Management System Software Development (전장정보체계 SW 개발을 위한 시큐어 코딩 라이브러리에 관한 연구)

  • In this paper, we identify the code vulnerabilities that can be automatically detected through Visual Studio (VS) compiler and code analyzer based on a secure coding rule set which is optimized for development of battlefield information system. Then we describe a weak point item that can be dealt with at the implementation stage without depending on the understanding or ability of the individual programmer's secure coding through the implementation of the secure coding library. Using VS compiler and the code analyzer, the developers can detect only about 38% of security weaknesses. But with the help of the proposed secure coding library, about 48% of security weaknesses can be detected and prevented in the proactive diagnosis in the development stage.

A Study on 8kbps FBD-MPC Method Considering Low Bit Rate (Low Bit Rate을 고려한 8kbps FBD-MPC 방식에 관한 연구)

  • In a speech coding system using excitation source of voiced and unvoiced, it would be involved a distortion of speech quality in case coexist with a voiced and unvoiced consonants in a frame. In this paper, I propose a method of 8kbps Multi-Pulse Speech Coding(FBD-MPC: Frequency Band Division MPC) by using TSIUVC(Transition Segment Including Unvoiced Consonant) searching, extraction and approximation-synthesis method in a frequency domain. I evaluate the 8kbps MPC and FBD-MPC. As a result, SNRseg of FBD-MPC was improved 0.5dB for female voice and 0.2dB for male voice respectively. Compared to the MPC, SNRseg of FBD-MPC has been improved that I was able to control the distortion of the speech waveform finally. And so, I expect to be able to this method for cellular phone and smart phone using excitation source of low bit rate.

  • 360 비디오는 VR 미디어의 확산과 함께 몰입형 미디어로 주목 받고 있으며, JVET(Joint Video Experts Team)에서는 post-HEVC 로 진행중인 VVC(Versatile Video Coding) 표준화에 360 비디오 부호화도 함께 포함하고 있다. 현재 JVET 에서는 360 비디오를 부호화 하기 위한 다양한 구(sphere) 영상의 2D 투영기법이 고려되고 있다. 이러한 2D 투영에서는 구 영상의 화소 샘플이 2D 영상에 비 균일하게 매핑되는 변환 왜곡이 발생하며, 이는 360 비디오의 부호화 효율을 저하시키는 원인이 된다. 본 논문에서는 CMP 의 개선된 투영기법인 기존의 EAC(Equi-Angular Cubemap)와 HEC(Hybrid Equiangular Cubemap)를 소개하고, 이를 바탕으로 HEC 의 확장 변환 기법을 제시하여 객관적/주관적 부호화 성능을 확인한다.

A Study on the Improvement of Texture Coding in the Region Growing Based Image Coding (영역화에 기초를 둔 영상 부호화에서 영역 부호화 방법의 개선에 관한 연구)

  • An improved method on texture coding, which is a part of the region growing based image coding, is presented in this paper. An image is segmented into stochastic regions which can be described as a stochastic random field, and non-stochastic ones in order to efficiently represent texture. In the texture coding and reconstruction, an autoregressive model is used for the stochastic regions, while a two-dimensional polynomial approximation is used for the non-stochastic ones. This proposed method leads to a better subjective quality, relatively higher compression ratio and shorter processing time for coding and reconstructing than the conventional method which uses only two-dimensional polynomial approximation.

  • In this paper, we propose an efficient block-based disparity estimation algorithm fur multiple view image coding in EE2 and EE3 in 3DAV. The proposed method emphasizes on visual quality improvement to satisfy the requirements for multiple view generation. Therefore, we perform an adaptive disparity estimation that constructs variable blocks by considering given image features. Examining neighboring features around desired block search range is set up to decrease complexity and additional information than only using quad-tree coding through applying binary-tree and quad-tree coding by taking into account stereo image feature having big disparity. The experimental results show that the proposed method improves PSNR about 1 to 2dB compared to existing other methods and decreases computational complexity up to maximum 68 percentages than FBMA.

  • This study is a study on the coding mathematics curriculum that converges elementary and middle school mathematics and information subjects and a minimum coding game-based education method for this. For the past 3 years, the coding mathematics curriculum and educational methods to effectively operate the curriculum were studied by applying them to 6th graders of elementary school and 1st graders of middle school. As a result of the first year of research, the coding mathematics curriculum was modified to a coding environment including the mathematical concept of a three-dimensional coordinate space, and the three-dimensional object was improved to be output as a real 3D print. As a result of the 2nd year study, it was improved so that even low-level students can build buildings by introducing different level commands for each component of the building so that self-directed learning is possible. As a result of the 3rd year study, a teaching-learning strategy based on a minimal coding game was designed to induce an increase in the level of computational thinking, and evaluation and feedback for diagnosing computational thinking were developed. Educational methods to promote self-directed learning and computing thinking ability, and researched coding mathematics curriculum are meaningful for the research and practice of the convergence education of school mathematics and informatics.

Error Concealment Using Inter-layer Correlation for Scalable Video Coding

  • In this paper, we propose a new error concealment (EC) method using inter-layer correlation for scalable video coding. In the proposed method, the auxiliary motion vector (MV) and the auxiliary mode number (MN) of intra prediction are interleaved into the bitstream to recover the corrupted frame. In order to reduce the bit rate, the proposed method encodes the difference between the original and the predicted values of the MV and MN instead of the original values. Experimental results show that the proposed EC outperforms the conventional EC by 2.8 dB to 6.7 dB.

Optimization of coding and PRML detection scheme for perpendicular magnetic recording systems (수직 자기기록 시스템을 위한 코딩 및 PRML 검출 방법의 최적화)

  • We propose non-DC-free generalized PRML (GPRML) that are suppressed DC contents for matching to the response of perpendicular magnetic recording channel with a ring-head. In addition, DC-free encoding is considered to prevent low-frequency disturbances. The SNR performance is obtained by combining the various PRML channels with DC-free and non-DC-free codes during the normalized recording density increases from 2.5 to 3.5. The GPRML detections without using DC-free code get SNR gains more than 1dB compared to the conventional PRML systems at 10/sup -5/BER. We confirmed that the rate 127/136 DC-free coded GPRML systems show good performances compared with the 16/17 non-DC-free coded GPRML systems. In results, DC-free coded GPRML detections get gains about 1.4dB and 2.0dB at the density of 3.3 and 3.5, respectively.

  • We propose a Z-HBT line coding for a LED-ID system. Z-HBT line coding is defined as follows. First, we apply half bit transition to one bit. Second, we decode encoded bits using difference of bit transition level in one bit duration. As a result, we obtain advantages about synchronization problem and noise effect mitigation at the receiver. We set up outdoor the LED-ID simulation environment. At simulation results, we show 2-3dB gain as compared with existing line coding schemes. The results of the paper can be applied to design and implementation of LED-ID systems for indoor wireless multimedia services.
