Allyloxy-and Benzyloxy-Substituted Pyridine-bis-imine Iron(II) and Cobalt(II) Complexes for Ethylene Polymerization

  • A series of ethylene polymerization catalysts based on tridentate bis-imine ligands coordinated to iron and cobalt was reported. The ligands were prepared through the condensation of sterically bulky anilines with allyloxy-and benzyloxy-substituted 2,6-acetylpyridines. The pre-catalyst complexes were penta-coordinate species of the general formula $\{[(ArN=C(Me))_2(4-RO-C_5H_3N)]MCl_2\}$ (Ar=ortho dialkyl-substituted aryl ring; R=allyl, benzyl; M=Fe, Co). In the presence of ethylene and methyl alumoxane cocatalysts, these complexes were active for the polymerization of ethylene, with activities lower than those of metal complexes of the general formula $\{[(2-ArN=C(Me)_2C_5H_3N]MCl_2\}$ (Ar=ortho dialkyl-substituted aryl ring; M=Co, Fe), containing no substituents in 2,6-acetylpyridine ring. The effects of the catalyst structure and temperature on the polymerization activity, thermal properties, and molecular weight were discussed.

  • Benzofuran-7-carboxamide was identified as a novel scaffold of poly(ADP-ribose) polymerase-1 (PARP-1) inhibitor. A series of compounds with various 2-substituents including (tertiary amino)methyl moieties substituted with aryl ring and aryl groups containing tertiary amines, were synthesized and biologically evaluated to elucidate the structure-activity relationships and optimize the potency. 2-[4-(Pyrrolidin-1-ylmethyl)phenyl]-benzofuran-7-carboxamide (42) was the most potent as an IC50 value of 40 nM among those.

  • Pd(II) p-tolylamide Pd(2,6-$(Ph_2PCH_2)_2C_6H_3$)(NH($C_6H_4Me$-p)) (1) was metathetically prepared by the reaction of Pd(2,6-$(Ph_2PCH_2)_2C_6H_3$)Cl with NaNH($C_6H_4Me$-p). Treatment of 1 with carbon dioxide affords the palladium(II) carbamate Pd(2,6-$(Ph_2PCH_2)_2C_6H_3$)(OC(O)NH($C_6H_4Me$-p)) (2), quantitatively. Complex 2 reacts with HX (X = Cl, OTf) to give Pd(2,6-$(Ph_2PCH_2)_2C_6H_3$)X, $NH_2$(p-Tol) and $CO_2$. Reaction of the palladium(II) carbamate with MeI produced Pd(2,6-$(Ph_2PCH_2)_2C_6H_3$)I along with generation of methyl N-tolylcarbamate MeOC(O)NH($C_6H_4Me$-p), exclusively.

Photoaddition Reactions of Silyl Ketene Acetals with Aromatic Carbonyl Compounds: A New Procedure for β-Hydroxyester Synthesis

  • Photochemical reactions of aromatic carbonyl compounds with silyl ketene acetals have been explored. Irradiation of acetonitrile or benzene solutions containing aryl aldehydes or ketones in the presence of silyl ketene acetals is observed to promo te formation of ${\beta}-hydroxyester$, 2,2-dioxyoxetane and 3,3-dioxyoxetane products. The ratios of these photoproducts, which arise by competitive single electron transfer (SET) and classical Paterno-Buchi mechanistic pathways, is found to be dependent on the degree of methyl-substitution on the vinyl moieties of the ketene acetals in a manner which reflects expected alkyl substituent effects on the oxidation potentials of these electron rich donors. An analysis of the product distribution arising by irradiation of a solution containing butyrophenone (6) and the silyl ketene acetal 9, derived from methyl isobutyrate, provides an estimate of the rate constants for the competitive Norrish type Ⅱ, SET and Paterno-Buchi processes occuring. Finally, sequences involving silyl ketene acetal-aryl aldehyde or ketone photoaddition followed by 2,2-dioxyoxetane hydrolysis represent useful procedures for Claisen-condensation type, ${\beta}-hydroxyester$ synthesis.

  • The enantioselective reduction of representative prochiral alkyl-aryl ketones with a new chiral alkoxy-amine-aluminum derivatives from aluminum hydride and ${\alpha},{\alpha}$-diphenyl-${\beta}$-amino alcohols, such as (S)-(-)-2-amino-3-methyl-1,1-diphenylbutan-1-ol(AMDPB) and (S)-(-)-2-(diphenylhydroxy-methyl)pyrrolidine(DPHMP), in THF at $0^{\circ}C$ was studied. In the reduction of alkoxy-amine-aluminum derivatives, acetophenone, propiophenone, isopropiophenone, and butyrophenone are reduced to corresponding aromatic secoundary alcohols with 34~60 % enantiomeric excess of (S)-isomers. For such ketones, the optical induction was enhanced by increasing a size of alkyl groups.

  • Synthesis of $\alpha$-piperidino and $\alpha$-morphelino styryl quinoxalinone 2f, 2g respectively by facile one step method is reported. The Michael adducts (3a-d) obtained by the interaction of 2-styryl-2 (1H) quinoxalinone (2) and ethylacetoacetate have been treated with resorcino and hydroxylamine separately. With resorcinol the chromones (4) are obtained whereas with ydroxylamine isoxazoles (6) are the products. Michael addition of acetylacetone to 2 leads to 3-[1'-aryl-2'-(2'-hydroxy-3'-quinoxalinyl)ethyl]-2, 4-pentanediones (5) which undergo cyclisation with hydroxylamine to give isoxazoles (7). Addition of thiopenol and thioglycolic acid to 2 gives 3-$\alpha$[$\beta$-(phenyl)-$\beta$-(plenylthio)]ethyl-2(1H)-quinoxalinone (8) and 3-$\alpha$-[$\beta$-phenyl)-$\beta$-(hydroxycarbonylmethylithio)]-ethyl-2(1H)-qui noxalinone (9) respectively. 2-Bromomethyl-2(1H)-quinoxalinone (1b) reacts with thioglycolic acid to gives S-[2 (1H)-oxoquionoxaline-3-yl-methyl] mercaptoacetic acid (10) which on cyclisation with acetic anhydride/pyridine affords 1, 2, 5, 6-tetrahydro [1, 4]thiazino[4, 3-a] quinoxaline-1, 6-dione (11).

An NMR Study on Complexation of Ethylammonium Ion by Alkyl p-tert-Butylcalix[6]aryl Ester Derivatives

  • The complexation of ethylammonium ion by alkyl p-tert-butylcalix[6]aryl ester derivatives was studied via measurements of proton and carbon spin-lattice relaxation times $(T_1)$ and chemical shift changes in solution state $(CDCl_3)$. The results indicate that the endo-type complexes are formed and that the overall tumbling rates of these complexes are more rapid than those of the corresponding free hosts. The association constants for these complexes in $THF-d_8$ were determined by $^1H$ NMR titration at several different temperatures to estimate the relevant thermodynamic parameters. The logK's for ethylammonium complexes of methyl, ethyl, and propyl esters at 313 K, for example, were found to be 1.56, 3.41, and 3.08, respectively. The complexes formed may be thought of as being kinetically stable in view of their $^1H$ NMR behavior in 2 : 1 host/guest solution.

  • 4-Aryl-2-hydroxytetronic acids which can be construded as a "lipophilic vitamin C analogue", are known to have antilipidemic and antiaggregatory activities in stead of antiscorb utic activity of vitamin C. A new compound 4-(p-chlorobiphenyl)-2-hydroxytetronic acid (8), which is structurally closely connected with the most active 4-(p-chlorophenyl)-2-hydroxytetronic acid, was synthesized from alpha-(p-chlorobiphenyl)-alpha-hydroxyacetic acid (1) through 7 steps as a potentially bioactive compound.

  • 1-(Benzotriazol-1-yl)-1-benzenesulfonylmethane 1a에 LDA 및 methyl iodide를 작용시켜 1-(Benzotriazol-1-yl)-1-benzenesulfonylmethane 2a와 2-(Benzotriazol-1-yl)-2-benzenesulfonylpropane 2b를 각각 얻었다. 같은 방법으로 1-(Benzotriazol-1-yl)-1-benzenesulfonylmethane 1b로부터 1-(Benzotriazol-1-yl)-1-benzenesulfonylpropane 3a와 3-(Benzotriazol-1-yl)-3-benzenesulfonylpentane 3b를 얻었다. 한편, 1, 1-di(benzotriazol-1-yl)-1-arylmethane 4를 butyl lithiym과 diphenyl disulfide로 처리하여 1, 1-di(benzotriazol-1-yl)-1-aryl-1-thiophenoxymethane 5를 합성하였다. 1, 1-di(benzotriazol-1-yl)methane 8을 butyl lithiym과 diphenyl disulfide로 처리하여 1, 1-di(benzotriazol-1-yl)-1-thiophenoxymethane 9a와 1, 1-di(benzotriazol-1-yl)-1, 1-dithiophenoxymethane 9b를 각각 얻었다. 화합물 9a를 m-CPBA로 산화시켜 1, 1-di(benzotriazol-1-yl)-1-benzenesulfoxymethane 10a와 1, 1-di(benzotriazol-1-yl)-1-benzenesulfonylmethane 10b를 얻었다. 한편, 화합물 3b를 170.deg.C 에서 열분해시켜 3-toluenesulfonyl-2-pentene 11ㅇ르 얻었으며, 150.deg.C의 강철봄베속에서 3b를 과량의 물로 가수분해 시켰더니 sulfone의 C-N 및 C-S 결합 모두가 절단된 diethyl ketone 13a가 생성됨을 확인하였다.

A Facile Greener Assisted Protocol for the Synthesis of Some New 4-aryl-(5-chloro-3-Methyl-1-phenyl-1H-Pyrazol-4-yl)-4,5-dihydroisoxazol-3-yl) Derivatives and their in vitro Antimicrobial Activity

  • An efficient access, single step and environmentally benign synthesis of a new series of pyrazole containing isoxazolines derivatives were prepared by the condensation of chalcones bearing pyrazole moiety with hydroxyl amine hydrochloride in basic condition by using polyethylene glycol-400 (PEG) as a greener reaction solvent. The advantages of the present methodology are mild reaction condition and avoidance of volatile organic solvent. Furthermore, these newly synthesized compounds were screened for their antimicrobial activity against various pathogens like Escherichia coli (MTCC 2939), Salmonella typhi (MTCC 98), Staphylococcus aureus (MTCC 96), Bacillus subtilis (MTCC 441), Aspergillus niger (MTCC 281), Aspergillus flavus (MTCC 2501), Penicillium chrsogenum (MTCC 160) and Fusarium moniliformae (MTCC 156). Especially compound containing the hydroxyl group in C2-position and presence of halo (I, Br and Cl) groups as substituents at $C_3$ and $C_5$ position on the benzene nucleus showed the higher activity. Furthermore, compounds bearing methyl groups in combination with I and Br which enhanced the activity.
