The potential of nitrogen mineralization was studied by applying organic fertilizer to soil and incubating at $25^{\circ}C$ for 28 weeks. The organic fertilizers used in this experiment were oil-cake (CF-I, CF-II) and amino acid fertilizer (AAF-I, AAF-II). Accumulated mineralized nitrogen (N) fits the frist-order kinetics during incubation. The N mineralization potential ($N_0$) for organic fertilizers treated soil was highest at AAF-II treatment with a value of 27.71 N mg/100g, then followed by CF-II, AAF-I, CF-I. The pure N mineralization potential ($N_0$ treatment - $N_0$ control) for CF-I, CF-II, AAF-I, AAF-II were 2.55, 5.83, 3.66, 8.57 N mg/100g, respectively. The amount of N mineralized from organic fertilizers applied soil ranged from 46% to 61% of the total N content in organic fertilizer. The half-life ($t_{1/2}$) of organic nitrogen in soil treated with oil-cake and amino acid fertilizer was 17-21 days. Therefore, half of nitrogen contained in oil-cake and amino acid fertilizer was mineralized after 3 weeks application.
This paper examines the effects of dietary fats on the fatty acid composition and market enzyme activites during liver damage in 2-acetylaminofluorene treated rats. Weaning Sprague-Dawley male rats were fed the diet of beef tallow(BT source of sturated fatty acid) corn oil(CO source of n-6 fatty acid) and perilla oil(PO source of n-3 fatty acid) at the level of 15% fat. Ten days after feeding 2-acetylaminofluorene(2-AAF) was injected intraperitoneally twice every week at the level of 50mg/kg body weight for 7 weeks. Liver microsomal and cytosolic fractions were collected to determine the microsomal fatty acid composition lipid peroxide(malondialdehyde MDA) contents glucose 6-phosphatase(G6 Pase) activity cytochrome(Cyt) P-450 contents and cytosolic glutathione S-transferase(G6 Pase) activity cytochrome(Cyt) P-450 contents and cytosolic glutathione S-transferase(GST) activity. The fatty acid composition in microsomal fraction was reflected by different dietary fats. By 2-AAF treatment linoleic acids were increased regardless of the diet MDA contents were higher in CO group than it was in BT group. However 2-AAF treatment decreased MDA contents in all dietary groups. G6Pase activity of BT group was higher than those of the other gropus. CO group had the highest Cyt P-450 contents and 2-AAF treatment lowered Cyt P-450 contents only in CO gropu GST activites were higher in CO than in BT group whereas the enzyme activites were increased by 20AAF treatment in all dietary groups. These results suggest that dietary fats and 2-AAF treatment in all dietary groups,. These results suggest that dietary fats and 2-AAF treatment affect microsomal fatty acid composition The enzyme activities concerned with liver damage were influenced differently by dietary fats and 2-AFF treatment Although PO diet contains much more polyunsaturated fatty acids than CO diet PO diet doesn't cause more oxidant stress compared with CO diet in these data.
Objective: The present experiment has tested the effect of dietary alfalfa flavonoids (AAF) supplementation on the productive performances, carcass characteristics, meat quality and lipid oxidation of growing rabbits. Methods: One hundred and sixty crossbred rabbits (42 days old) were divided into four groups of forty animals each and were fed either a control diet (AAF0) or an AAF0 diet supplemented with 400, 800, or 1,200 mg of AAF/kg per diet (AAF4, AAF8, and AAF12, respectively) from weaning to slaughtering (102 days old). Performance data were recorded over a period of 60 days. At the end of the trial, 12 rabbits were slaughtered per group, and the carcass characteristics were recorded. Moreover, the plasma, liver and dorsal muscles were sampled from 12 rabbits/group, and were analyzed for lipid oxidation. Results: No significant differences were recorded for the performance, carcass characteristics and meat quality traits except for lightness parameter that was lower in the control group. Dietary AAF supplementation significantly (p<0.01) affected the malondialdehyde (MDA) levels of the frozen meat in a dose-related manner, with the lowest value (0.24 mg MDA/kg fresh meat) recorded in the AAF12 group samples. Conclusion: These findings indicated that the dietary inclusion of AAF in rabbit diets improved muscle oxidation stability with no adverse effects on the growth performance of the animals even if a slight impact on meat lightness color parameter was recorded.
This study was performed to examine the anti-cancer effect of Red Ginseng in the DENGalN-PH-induced hepatic tumor model system in rats. One hundred of male SPF Sprague-Dawley rats(6weeks old) were randomly divided into five groups. Rats in groups 1, 2, 3, and 4 were administered to diethylnitrosamine intraperitoneally 200 mg/kg body weight for the caner initiation. Rats in group 5 were given to saline as a control. On two weeks after cancer initiation, rats in groups 1 and 3 were fed on diet containing 0.01% of acethylaminofiuorene(AAF) which is strong cancer-promotor for 6 weeks, while rats in groups 2 and 4 were fed on water containing 0.05% of phenobarbital which is weak cancer.promotor for 6 weeks. Rats in groups 1 and 2 were treated with diet containing 3% of Red Ginseng for six weeks(from 9th week till 15th week after cancer initiation). Rats in all groups were necropsied time-sequencially at 8, 15, and 36 weeks. The hepatic lesions of rat treated with carcinogens expressed glutathione S-transferase placental form(GST-P) at 8 week. The GST-P positive foci of rats treated with AAF were larger than that of any other rats, while the GST-P positive foci of rats treated with AAF and red ginseng were significantly decreased. This anti-cancer effect of Red ginseng might be involved in the enhacement of natural killer cell activity. To know whether there is direct relationship between Red Ginseng and natural killer cell activity, the activity of natural killer cell was examined after treatment AAF, AAF+Red ginseng and Red ginseng only, respectively. Comparing with natural killer cell activity in AAF-treated group, natural killer cell activity was significantly activated in AAF+ Red ginseng-treated group. This indicated that Red ginseng might enhance natural killer activity after treatment carcinogen in rats. These results suggested that Red ginseng might have a cancer prevention ability by promoting natural killer cell activity during hepatocarclnogenesis.
This paper examines the effects of dietary polyunsaturated fatty acid/saturated fatty acid (p/s) ratios and butylated hydroxytoluene (BHT) on the hepatic microsomaI mixed-function oxidase sy. stem in 2~acetylaminofiuorene (2-AAF) treated rats. Sprague-Dawley male rats were fed the diet of beef tallow (p/s 0.08), beef tallow plus soybean oil (p/s 1.0), and soybean oil (p/s 4.0) at the level of 15%fat and with or without 0.3% BHT. After 2-AAF was injected twice at the ages of 23 and 27 weeks, cholesterol/phospholipid molar ratio, thiobarbituric acid reactive substances (TBARS) level, cytochrome P450, cytochrome $b_5$, NADPH-cytochrome $b_5$, and NADPH-cytochrome c reductase activity were measured from isolated hepatic microsomal fractions. In the beef tallow (p/s 0.08) and beef tallow plus soybean oil (p/s 1.0) groups, cholesterol/phospholipid molar ratio showed decreasing tendency by 2-AAF and BHT. Cytochrome P-450 content was decreased in the group of soybean oil (p/s 4.0) and NADPH-cytochrome c reductase activity was increased by 2-AAF and BHT in all the dietary groups. While TBARS levels were increased by 2-AAF in all the dietary groups, they were reduced by BHT in the soybean oil (p/s 4.0) group. These results suggest that long term intake of soybean oil (p/s 4.0) diet induced changes in the nature of microsomal membrane and induced less cytochrome P-450, low level feeding of BHT increased cytochrome c reductase activity and lowered microsomal lipid peroxidation levels, which were increased by 2-AAF treatment.

This study used response surface methodology to investigate the optimal conditions to reduce the bitterness of alcalase-treated anchovy hydrolysate (AAH) by the aminopeptidase active fraction (AAF) derived from the common squid Todarodes pacificus hepatopancreas. The central composite design selected AAF/AAH ratio (X1, %) and hydrolysis time (X2, h) as independent variables, and the degree of hydrolysis (Y1) and bitterness (Y2) as dependent variables. The uncoded values of the multiple response optimization for independent variables were 3.4% for the AAF/AAH ratio and 9.2 h for the hydrolysis time. The predicted values of the yield and bitterness score of alcalase-AAF continuously treated anchovy hydrolysate (AAAH) under the optimized conditions were 68.9% and 4.6 points, respectively. Their measured values of 69.5% for yield and 4.6±0.5 points for bitterness were similar to the predicted values. The food components of AAAH were 91.4% (moisture), 7.5% (protein), 0.1% (lipid) and 0.6% (ash). The findings indicate the potential value for use as an anchovy seasoning base. The results also confirm that the bitterness of AAH was remarkably improved by AAF and implicates AAF derived from squid hepatopancreas as a good enzyme to catalyze reduced bitterness.
The catastrophic earthquake-induced failure of slopes concentrically distributed at near-fault area, which indicated the special features of near-fault ground motions, i.e. horizontal pulse-like motion and large vertical component, should have great effect on these geo-disasters. We performed shaking table tests to investigate the effect of both horizontal pulse-like motion and vertical component on dynamic response of slope. Both unidirectional (i.e., horizontal or vertical motions) and bidirectional (i.e., horizontal and vertical components) motions are applied to soft rock slope model, and acceleration at different locations is reordered. The results show that the horizontal acceleration amplification factor (AAF) increases with height. Moreover, the horizontal AAF under unidirectional horizontal pulse-like excitations is larger than that subject to ordinary motion. The vertical AAF does not show an elevation amplification effect. The seismic response of slope under different bidirectional excitations is also different: (1) The horizontal AAF is roughly constant under horizontal pulse-like excitations with and without vertical waves, but (2) the horizontal AAF under ordinary bidirectional ground motions is larger than that under unidirectional ordinary motion. Above phenomena indicate that vertical component has limited effect on seismic response when the horizontal component is pulse-like ground motion, but it can greatly enhance seismic response of slope under ordinary horizontal motion. Moreover, the vertical AAF is enhanced by horizontal motion in both horizontal pulse-like and ordinary motion. Thence, we should pay enough attention to vertical ground motion, especially its horizontal component is ordinary ground motion.
The purpose of this study is to determine the effect of dietary proteins and fats on the hepatic histological changes, membrane stability, and drug-metabolizing enzyme activities during chemically induced rat hepatocarcinogenesis. Weanling Sprague-Dawley rats were fed the diet containing 20% casein or soy protein isolate and 15% perilla or corn oil for 10 weeks. Hepatocarcinogensis was initiated with diethylnitrosamine(DEN), and the rats were fed diets containing 0.02% 2-acetylaminofluorene(AAF) followed by 0.05% phenobarbital (PB). The scores of histological changes were decreased in treated rats fed soy protein diet compared to those find casein diet. Liver weights were significantly increased by AAF and PB treatment in rats fed casein diets in both oil groups. Glucose 6-phosphatase(G6Pase) activities, an index of membrane stability, were significantly reduced by AAF and PB treatment in rats find casein diets, and were lower in casein diet compared to soy protein diet groups. Especially, the activities were the highest in the rats fed soy protein-perilla oil diet. Lipid peroxide values also were increased by AAF and PB treatment in rats fed casein diet. Aniline hydroxylase activities were not influenced by protein and fat sources. Glutathione-dependent enzyme activities were increased by AAF and PB treatment. Linoleic and arachidonic acid content were increased in rats fed corn oil diet, and linolenic and eicosapentaenoic acid contents were increased in rats fed perilla oil diet. Our results suggest that soy protein isolate inhibit the abnormal histological changes in liver, possibly by maintaining the membrane stability during chemically induced rat hepatocarcinogenesis. Soy protein may be protective against the hepatocarcinogenesis induced by chemical carcinogen.
For studying the effect of different dietary fats on carcinogenesis, fatty acid composition of membrane and lipid peroxidation were measured. Male Sprague-Dawley rats were fed on diet containing 15%(w/w) beef tallow or soybean oil. A single dose of 50 mg 2-AAF/kg B.W. was injected i.p. in each diet group 10 times. Rats were sacrifled after 1, 5, 10, and 15 weeks from the first injection. By 2-AAF injection, !ipid peroxidation increased slightly compared to control group. The rats fed on different fats had similar MDA production and those fed on soybean oil had slightly higher free radical concentration measured by ESR. In young rats, iipid peroxidation level was high and hydroxy radical production was higher in soybean oil group than in beef tallow group. With age, the lipid peroxidation values were decreased initially then increased. The fatty acid composition in microsomal membrane was reflected by dietary fatty acid composition. In soybean oil group, monoenoic acid was lower and polyunsaturated fatty acid was higher than beef tallow group. Linoleic acid contents showed the most discrepancy among groups. By 2-AAF treatment, iinoleic acid content and unsaturation index increased in soybean oil group. But in beef tallow group, there was no difference in fatty acid contents.
Purpose: The present study assessed the role of an amino acid-based formula (AAF) in the growth of infants with cow's milk protein allergy (CMPA). Methods: Non-breastfed, term infants aged 0-6 months with symptoms suggestive of CMPA were recruited from 10 pediatric centers in China. After enrollment, infants were started on AAF for two weeks, followed by an open food challenge (OFC) with cow's milk-based formula (CMF). Infants with confirmed CMPA remained on AAF until 9 months of age, in conjunction with a cow's milk protein-free complementary diet. Body weight, length, and head circumference were measured at enrollment and 9 months of age. Measurements were converted to weight-for-age, length-for-age, and head circumference-for-age Z scores (WAZ, LAZ, HCAZ), based on the World Health Organization growth reference. Results: Of 254 infants (median age 16.1 weeks, 50.9% male), 218 (85.8%) were diagnosed with non-IgE-mediated CMPA, 33 (13.0%) tolerated CMF, and 3 (1.2%) did not complete the OFC. The mean WAZ decreased from 0.119 to -0.029 between birth and enrollment (p=0.067), with significant catch-up growth to 0.178 at 9 months of age (p=0.012) while being fed the AAF. There were no significant changes in LAZ (0.400 vs. 0.552; p=0.214) or HCAZ (-0.356 vs. -0.284; p=0.705) from the time of enrollment to age 9 months, suggesting normal linear and head growth velocity. Conclusion: The amino acid-based study formula, in conjunction with a cow's milk proteinfree complementary diet, supported normal growth till 9 months of age in a cohort of Chinese infants with challenge-confirmed non-IgE-mediated CMPA.
