  • Automotive engines need strategies to satisfy with the emission regulations in terms of PM and NOx. HC-LNT (Hydrocarbon-Lean NOx Trap) with secondary injection system is considered as more practical technology in order to cope with emission regulations. The HC-LNT system, which is using diesel fuel itself as a reducing agent, absorbs NOx in lean exhaust gas condition and releases NOx in rich exhaust gas conditions. In this system, inappropriate amounts of reducing agent will slip through the LNT without the profits of conversion and cause additional emission problems. Therefore, the suitable amount of reducing agent should be supplied into the catalytic converter. In this research, engine emission test was conducted to optimize injection quantity at the various engine test conditions. Different exhaust layouts and catalyst shapes have been studied and extension unit which makes better uniformity of exhaust gas was used for HC-LNT system. From this results, the effect of secondary injection conditions on NOx conversion characteristics of HC-LNT was clarified.

  • The in-core instrumentation measures core power distribution and coolant temperature in local regions of the core in pressurized water reactors. The installation types are distinguished by the designs of routing paths that exit either through reactor bottom mounted instrument nozzles or through reactor top mounted instrument nozzles. Although each type has unique advantages, it is generally known that top mounted design is more competitive with respect to emphasizing nuclear safety issues and ability to cope with severe accidents. The international nuclear vendors have provided various types of reactors with top mounted design. Nuclear power reactors in Korea, however, only have been designed to be applicable to the use of bottom mounted design, and it has been pointed out that the capabilities of Korean reactors against severe accidents should be further enhanced. The paper deals with technical issues on reactor internal and external design, in-core instrumentation, support assembly, sealing mechanism with nozzles, handling, and analytical issues in order to establish the ways of development.

  • Constructing the national inventory that can be used as a tool to identify and assess existing or potential contamination is necessary for efficiently managing the soil and groundwater contamination. In order to start this construction, the first step is how we define and classify potential contamination sources of soil and groundwater. After selecting the basic classification model of contamination sources from developed countries, we suggested the classification and list of the potential contamination sources of soil and groundwater which are appropriate for specific conditions of South Korea. In addition, we investigated several databases to confirm the existence of available data sources and then examined established attribute data through chemical accident response information system (CARIS) and water information system (WIS) in National Institute of Environmental Research and mine geographic information system (MGIS) in Mine Reclamation Corporation. All sorts of attribute data in the existing databases can be utilized as significant assessment factors for determining the management priority of potential contamination sources in the future. Therefore, it is required the expanded investigation of additional database sources and the continual modification so that the classification system of potential contamination sources can be improved.

  • Purpose: A lab-scale timber carriage using a servo motor system was built. When two motors move a carriage, wire tension is changed according to the different line speeds caused by a wire drum's changing diameter, leading to inappropriate traveling characteristics of the carriage. In order to overcome this problem, PID Control was used to control the motor speed. Methods: Ziegler-Nichols method was used to determine PID gains. Results: The initial PID gains were 1.8, 0.025, and 0.006, respectively, and optimal gains of 1.4 and 0.010 for P and I gain were obtained experimentally. Conclusions: The results showed that constant wire tension could be maintained by controlling the speed of the motor using PI control. Overshoot occurred at initial motor operation due to vibration and elasticity of the wire itself.

  • We have found that the damage of the front part for a vehicle and that of the rear part for a vehicle are the majority of frequency experienced by the traffic accidents. In conventional bumper system was designed by safety standard regulation at low speed crash. For example there are 2.5 mile and 5 mile bumper. The conventional bumper system was the crash from max 5.5 mile to 3 mile low speed occurs most frequently and results in the highest rate of repairing cost in statistically. On this study, in order to check the damageability and repairability of gas tube bumper system RCAR 15 km/h 40 % offset frontal crash test was adopted in low speed and we have a gas tube bumper parts test and vehicle test with gas tube bumper, we can find gas tube bumper system definitely can improve the damageability and repairability of the vehicles and contribute to down the repairing cost.

  • The purpose of this paper is to critically examine Korean government's efforts in policy making and implementation regarding the Korea National Health Insurance System in the past and suggest a new paradigm for future policy changes. The structural and political characteristics of the Korea National Health Insurance, where health care services are provided almost exclusively by the private providers and funding for health comes equally from public and private sources, imply persistent difficulties in the operation of the system This may partially explain why the Korean system has continually experienced conflicts among stakeholders whenever there was an attempt to change policy. In this paper, we discuss four cases to illustrate such difficulties and barriers. We propose that in order to address these challenges and reduce policy errors as well as unintended results, it is necessary to restructure policy making process from being oriented toward 'quantitative expansion' to 'qualitative maturity', from a 'linear thinking' to a 'system thinking', from taking a 'top-down' to a 'governance and participatory' decision making process.

  • The daylighting affects on the human biological cycles and physiological alterations. Daylighting is also an important element in visual comfort and it sometimes influences the quality of vision. Therefore the absence of natural light during the day brings contradictory result. To solve the problems of natural light lack and provide sufficient daylight in interior spaces, it might be necessary to apply some daylighting systems. One of these systems, light pipe system, which is simple, cheep and easily constructed, is very useful to apply for small buildings. The light pipe is simple means of directing daylighting (diffuse and direct lighting)into interior space. In order to application of light pipe system in Korea, it is necessary to optical data of light pipe system. This study aims to evaluate preliminary experiment of the daylighting environment of light pipe system. Light pipe system, that aspect ratio is 1:2(diameter and length), was installed in a windowless mock-up with $27m^2$. The mock-up model was constructed as a prototype of Korean office surface. Illuminance was measured with a Topcon IM-5 Luxmeter to evaluate the distribution of the illuminance on a floor. The indoor and outdoor illuminance and the internal/external illuminance ratio are compared to discuss with in the graphs. Luminance was measured with Radiant imaging Promertric 1400 that is digital photometer to evaluate the distribution of luminance on interior surface. The contrast of luminance is discussed with table and graphs.

  • An innovative wafer drying system was developed using Isopropyl alcohol (IPA) and nitrogen carrier gas in order to replace the commercial conventional drying system which was a non-environmentally friendly system. This system was designed as following ; the IPA evaporation chamber and the process chamber were separated to increase drying efficiency, and the carrier gas with the IPA vapor was delivered into the process chamber. It was investigated that the IPA concentration was the most important factor to operate the system. The optimum concentration was found to be 2.4 ml IPA/N2 1. In addition, the optimum flow rate of the nitrogen gas were maintained more than 60 l/min.
