This study investigated the separation and the property of palladium precipitate formed by ascorbic acid in a simulated radioactive liquid waste, which was composed of 10 elements((Pd, Ru, Rh, Nd, Cs, Sr, Fe, Ni, Zr, Mo). Pd was separated selectively by using reduction characteristics of metal ions contained in the simulated waste with ascorbic acid. When the nitric acid concentration was 0.5 M, the Pd over 99.5% was precipitated by adding 0.04 M ascorbic acid. Nitric acid concentration is important at the reduction reaction of Pd ion. The precipitation yield of Pd was decreased as the concentration of nitric acid was increased. The Pd precipitate was re-dissolved in reaching at an equilibrium when the concentration of nitric acid was high and ascorbic acid was added with a small amount. The Pd precipitate formed by ascorbic acid was Pd metal and was aggregated by particles less than $1.0{\mu}m$.

This study was designed to examine effects of the various levels of sardine and safflower oil mix on lipid contents of serveral tissues in dietary hyperlipidemic rats. Experimental oils were 16% butter(control group), 8% butter +8% olive oil(group 2) 8% butter+8% sardine oil(group 3) 8% butter+6% sardine oil+2% safflower oil(group 4), 8% butter+4% sardine oil+4% safflower oil(group 5),8% butter+2% sardine oil+6% safflower oil(group 6) and 8% butter+8% safflower oil(group 7). The diet administered to the male rats of Sprague-Dawley were fed for 4 weeks. In livers, total cholesterol and triglyceride, phospholipid concentrations were lowest in the group 5 and free cholesterol concentrations were lower in the groups 4 and 5, particularly. Total cholesterol and triglyceride concentrations in brain were significantly lower in the group 5 and phospholipids were lowest in the group 3, while free cholesterol were group 7. In testes, total cholesterol and triglyceride, phospholipid, free cholesterol concentrations were lower in the all experimental groups than the control group, but those of kidney were lower in the groups 3, 7 than in the control group. Feeding mixed oil having equal quantity of sardine oil and safflower oil were effective on the reduction of the lipid contents in the principal tissues. It might be due to the effects of appropriate ratios of P/S, 0.85 and n-6/n3-p, 2.85 in the test lipids.
Phase Inversion Temperature (PIT) measurements showed that the addition of polar components such as oleyl alcohol and oleic acid to the system comprising n-dodecylpentaoxyethylene monoether ($C_{12}E_5$), nonpolar oil (n-hexadecane) and water produced large reductions in the PIT. The PIT was lowered as the additive-to-surfactant ratio in the surfactant films in the microemulsion phase was increased. Another dramatic effect of additive was the manner in which it affects the volume of the microemulsion phase at the PIT of the oil and water solubilization characteristics. Microemulsion phase volume was increased rapidly with decreasing PIT, i.e., with increasing amounts of additive in the system. Also with a decrease in PIT, the solubilization parameters of both oil and water in the microemulsion phase were strikingly increased. Even though soil removal data were not available for the conditions where our results obtained, PIT measurement seems a useful starting point for estimating conditions when middle-phase microemulsion formation and its associated high solubilization of oil can be expected.
In this study, we wanted to understand the impact of different decaffeination processes on aroma compounds of coffee. Therefore, we analyzed differences in physical characteristics and volatile aroma compounds profiles of regular coffee (RC), Swiss water process decaffeinated coffee (SWDC), and supercritical CO2 decaffeinated coffee (SCDC) after roasting the coffee beans. The electronic nose analysis identified RC and SCDC as different groups which indicates that these groups volatile aroma compound compositions were different. The principal component analysis of volatile compound patterns identified using an electronic nose indicated that there was a large difference in volatile compounds between RC, which was not decaffeinated, and both decaffeinated SWDC and SCDC. The major aroma compounds of RC, SWDC and SCDC were propan-2-one and hexan-2-one which are ketone, and hexanal and (E)-2-pentenal which are aldehyde and 3-methyl-1-butanol which is an alcohol. After roasting, the composition of major volatile compounds appearing in the beans was similar, but the relative odor intensity was different. We identified 28 volatile aroma compounds from RC, SWDC, and SCDC using headspace-solid phase microextraction-gas chromatography/mass spectrometry (HS-SPME-GC/MS), and analyzed 10 major compounds that were present in high abundance, including furfural, 2-furanmethanol, 2,5-dimethylpyrazine, and 2-ethyl-3-methylpyrazine.
The paper presented investigates the effects of kaolinite on strength properties of alkali-activated multi-component cement. The binders of this study was blended of ground granulated blast furnace slag (GGBFS), fly ash (FA), silica fume (SF) and kaolinite (KA). In this study, the specimens of combination of 20%~70% GGBFS, 10%~60% FA, 10% SF (constant ratio) and 10%~50% KA binder were used for strength properties tests. The water/binder ratio was 0.5. The binders (GGBFS + FA + SF + KA) was activated by sodium hydroxide (NaOH) and sodium silicate ($Na_2SiO_3$) was 10% by total binder weight (10% NaOH + 10% $Na_2SiO_3$). The research carried out is on the compressive strength, water absorption, ultrasonic pulse velocity (UPV) and X-ray diffraction (XRD). The compressive strength decreased as the contents of KA increase. One of the major reason for this is the low reactivity of KA compared with other raw materials used as precursors such as GGBFS or FA. The presence of remaining KA indicates that the initially used quantity has not fully reacted during hydration. Moreover, the results have indicated that increased of KA contents decreased UPV under all experimental conditions. The drying shrinkage and water absorption increased as the content of KA increase. Test result clearly showed that the strength development of multi-component blended cement were significantly dependent on the content of KA and GGBFS.
There are exposed Samrangjin Tuff and intracaldera intrusions, of which rhyolitic rocks emplaced as postcollapsed central and ring intrusions within the Samrangjin caldera, and fine-grained granodiorite and biotite granite as regional tectonic intrusions nearby. The Samrangjin Tuff and the rhyolitic rocks are of a single Samrangjin magmatic system. Flow-banded rhyolite among rhyolitic rocks was emplaced in the outer part of the ring intrusions, rhyodacite in the inner part of the eastern ring, and porphyritic dacite and dacite porphyry in the inner part of the northwestern ring. Totally the Samrangjin Tuff and the rhyolitic rocks range from rhyolite to dacite in chemical composition. The Rb-Sr isotopic data of the Samrangjin Tuff and the rhyolitic rocks yield an age of $80.8{\pm}1.5(2{\sigma})$ Ma with the initial $^{87}Sr/^{86}Sr$ ratio of $0.70521{\pm}0.00010(2{\sigma})$. The continuous compositional zonations generally define a large stratified magma system in the postcollapse magma chamber. The Sr isotopic data suggest that the compositional zonations might have resulted from the fractional crystallization of a parental dacitic magma.
A set of field investigations was performed to estimate accurately the predominant periods of seismic 8round motions and the attenuation characteristics of the seismic ground vibration. Predominant periods of ground motions were estimated from the measurement of the continuous microseismic vibratins of certain periods, inherent in the ground and in the buildings, utilizing the high sensitivity digital velocity seismometer consisting of 3-component geophones and a digital seismograph. Estimated predominant periods of microseismic vibraion of the ground(measured on'the ground surface) and the building (measured on the second floor) were in the range of 0.18~0.235 sec. and 0.26~0.31 sec. respectively. The subsurface structure of the site ground was surveyed by the seismic refraction method utilizing the digital seismicwave probing system. The ground structure was found to be a two-layered system : an upper top soil layer of 7m in thickness with the P-wave velocity of 662m1sec and a lower layer of silty-clayey soils with the P -wave velocity of 2210m1 sec. The attenuation characteristics of the seismic ground vibrations were determined by the amplitude decay measurement method us;ng the Seisgun, which produces strong artificial seismic energy. Measured spatial attenuation coefficients of the ground vibration in vertical(Z) longitudinal(X), transverse(Y) direction were 0.1137, 0.0025, and 0.0290 respectively. Estimated Spartial QP's (inverse of the specific dissipation constant w.r.t. shear waved of X, Y, and Z directions were in the range of 5.913~7.575, 32.371~41.452, 2.794~3.579 re spectively. This indicates that aseimic design of the structures on the site should take stronger consideration regarding the earthquake resistance characteristics of the structures against longitudinal ground motion.
