The Performance Stability of Ophthalmic Material with UV-Block Effect Containing Hydroxyl Benzophenone Group and Tungsten Nanoparticles

  • In this study, the functional hydrogel ophthalmic lens containing tungsten oxide nanoparticles, 2,4-dihydroxy benzophenone and 2-hydroxy-4-(methacryloyloxy) benzophenone were manufactured. HEMA (2-hydroxyethyl methacrylate), MMA (methyl methacrylate), AA(acrylic acid), the cross-linker EGDMA (ethylene glycol dimethacrylate), the initiator AIBN (azobisisobutyronitrile) and the functional additives including tungsten oxide nanoparticles, 2,4-dihydroxy benzophenone, and 2-hydroxy-4-(methacryloyloxy) benzophenone were used respectively. The measurements of water content and refractive index of the sample was decreased and increased, respectively. And also, the UV transmittance of produced lens containing 2,4-dihydroxy benzophenone, 2-hydroxy-4-(methacryloyloxy) benzophenone and tungsten oxide nanoparticles was measured. Based on the results of this study, it is judged that the performance improvement increased over time when 2-hydroxy-4-(methacryloyloxy) benzophenone was used as an additive, while the use of tungsten oxide nanoparticles influenced on blue-ray-blocking effect of the hydrophilic lens.

  • To increase the ultraviolet radiation (UVR) protection of cotton fabric, ultraviolet protection (UVP) materials were treated onto cotton fabric using a new technique, UV-curing. A photocrosslinkablepolymer, poly(ethylene glycol) dimethacrylate was used as a UV-curable resin in the presence of a small amount of photoinitiator. Two kinds of UVP materials were used, UV-absorber, 2,2'-dihydroxy-4-methoxy benzophenone, and UV-scatterer, $TiO_2/ZnO$ Pad-dry-cure method in employing these materials onto cotton was also conducted to compare the effectiveness and the washfastness of UVP treatment between curing methods. UVP treated cotton fabric showed a moderate increase in UVP in case of 2,2'-dihydroxy-4-methoxy benzophenone treatment and a high increase in case of $TiO_2/ZnO$. UV-curing method increased the washfastness of UVP property of $TiO_2/ZnO$ treated cotton fabrics. However, in case of 2,2'-dihydroxy-4-methoxy benzophenone, similar wash fastnesses of UV-cured and pad-dry-cured cotton were observed. It can be presumed that 2,2'-dihydroxy-4-methoxy benzophenone was not significantly affected by water since its hydrophobicity. In short, UV-curing of UVP materials onto cotton was successfully done, and treated cotton fabrics showed the increased UVP properties and an increased washfastness in some extent.

자외선 흡수제 처리에 의한 면직물의 자외선 차단 효과 (UV-Cut Effects of Cotton Fabrics Treated with UV Absorbents)

  • The purpose of this study is to investigate the adsorption rate, adsorption quantities and the UV-Cut effects of cotton fabrics treated with several UV absorbents. The result of this study were as follows: cotton fabric treated with 2,2'-dihydroxy-4- methoxy-benzophenone shows more efficient than ones treated with 4-aminobenzoic acid and 2·hydroxy-1, 4-naphthoquinone in UV absorption. This may be due to the absorption of UV light by formation of intra moleculaar hydrogen bond. The formation of hydrogen bonds between hydrogen atoms of two hydroxy groups and one oxygen atom of carboxyl group in 2, 2'-dihydroxy-4-methoxy-benzophenone would be easier than that of the other absorbents. The adsorption isotherms of 4-aminobenzoic acid and 2-hydroxy-1, 4-naphthoquinone were similar to Freundlich type, while that of 2, 2'-Dihydroxy-4-methoxy-benzophenone was Henry type. Cotton fabrics treated with Antifade MC-100 and W Cut I-2 were just alike in UV absorption, but Antifade 8001 was inferior to the others.

자외선 흡수제를 첨가한 고분자 중합 및 안 의료용 소재로의 적용 (UV Absorbent-added Polymerization and its Application as Ophthalmological Material)

  • 본 연구는 자외선 흡수제로 사용되는 benzophenone계(group) 및 높은 굴절률과 화학적, 물리적으로 매우 안정한 물질로 알려진 $TiO_2$를 기존의 재료에 첨가하여 자외선 차단 기능을 가진 고분자 재료를 중합하였다. 중합 결과 생성된 고분자의 자외선 흡수 정도를 기존의 재료들과 비교하였으며, 제조된 콘택트렌즈의 함수율, 굴절률 및 광투과율등의 기본적인 물성을 측정하였다. 측정 결과, 자외선 흡수제를 첨가한 콘택트렌즈의 굴절률과 함수율은 각각 1.430~1.440, 35.0~45.0의 값들로 나타나 기존의 콘택트렌즈와 비슷한 결과를 나타내었다. 또한 각 파장대별 광투과율에서는 자외선 흡수제를 넣지 않은 콘택트렌즈에서는 UV-A, UV-B, 가시광선 투과율이 각각 89%, 88%, 89%로 나타나 자외선 투과율이 매우 높았으나, 2-hydroxy-4-methoxy-benzophenone와 2,4-dihydroxy-benzophenone을 첨가한 콘택트렌즈의 경우, 각각 UV-A 0%, UV-B 6%의 투과율을 나타내어 자외선 차단 효과가 있는 것으로 나타났다. 또한 $TiO_2$를 첨가한 콘택트렌즈의 경우, 각각 UV-A 6%, UV-B 51%의 투과율을 나타내어 자외선 차단 효과가 다소 있는 것으로 나타났다. 가시광선 투과율은 모두 77~89%로 콘택트렌즈의 가시광선 투과율의 조건에 만족함을 알 수 있었다.

  • The effects of high energy short wave solar radiation on human skin have received much publicity as the major cause of accelerated skin ageing and of skin cancers. To meet public demand, the cosmetic industry has developed sun protection factor products, which contain a variety of so-called "UV filters", among others benzophenone (BP) and its metabolites are the widely used UV filters. UV filters are also used to prevent UV light from damaging scents and colors in a variety of cosmetics products and to protect of plastic products against light-induced degradation. There are many variants of BP in use. In this respect, to regulate and to evaluate the hazardous effect of BP-type UV filters will be important to environment and human health. The genotoxicity of 7 BP-type UV filters was evaluated in L5178Y $(tk^{+/-})$ mouse lymphoma cells in vitro. BP, benzhydrol, 4-hydroxybenzophenone 2-hydroxy-4-methoxybenzophenone and 2, 4-dihydroxybenzophenone did not induce significant mutation frequencies both in the presence and absence of metabolic activation system. 2, 2'-Dihydroxy-4-methoxybenzophenone appeared the positive results at the highest dose, i.e. 120.4 ${\mu}g/mL$ only in the absence of metabolic activation system. And also, 2, 3, 4-trihydroxybenzophenone revealed a significant increase of mutation frequencies in the range of 138.1-207.2 ${\mu}g/mL$ in the absence of metabolic activation system and 118.3-354.8 ${\mu}g/mL$ in the presence of metabolic activation system. Through the results of MLA with 7 BP-type UV filters in L5178Y cells in vitro, we may provide the important clues on the genotoxic potentials of these BP-type UV filters.

Fabrication and Processing Method of Ophthalmic Hydrogel Tinted Lens Containing Indium Tin Oxide-Composited Materials

  • In this study, a multifunctional ophthalmic lens material with an electromagnetic shielding effect, high oxygen permeability, and high water content is tested, and its applicability is evaluated. Metal oxide nanoparticles are applied to the ophthalmic lens material for vision correction to shield harmful electromagnetic waves; the pyridine group is used to improve the antibacterial effect; and silicone substituted with urethane and acrylate is employed to increase the oxygen permeability and water content. In addition, multifunctional tinted ophthalmic lens materials are studied using lens materials with an excellent antibacterial effect (2,6-difluoropyridine, 2-fluoro-4-pyridinecarboxylic acid) and functional (UV protection, high wettability) lens materials (2,4-dihydroxy benzophenone, 2-hydroxy-4-(methacryloyloxy)benzophenone). To solve problems such as air bubbles generated during the polymerization process for the manufacturing and turbidity of the lens surface, polymerization conditions in which the defect rate is minimized are determined. The results show that the polymerization temperature and time are most appropriate when they are $110^{\circ}C$ and 40 minutes, respectively. The optimum injection amount of the polymerization solution is 350 ms. The turbid phenomenon that appears in lens processing is improved by 10 to 95 % according to the test time and conditions.

자외선 차단 가공에 의한 면직물의 역학적 특성 변화 (Effect of UV-Absorber Treatment on the Mechanical Properties of Cotton Fabrics)

  • 본 연구의 목적은 자외선 차단 가공 처리 및 자외선 조사처리에 의해 면직물의 역학적 특성 변화를 조사하고 가공제 처리조건에 따른 차이점을 분석하는 것이다. 시료로는 100% 면직물을, 자외선 흡수제로 2,2'-dihydroxy-4,4'-dimethoxy benzophenone을, 첨가제로 Triton X-100, polyethylene glycol 400, MgCl$_2$.6$H_2O$를 사용하였다. 자외선 흡수제 처리는 Atlas Launder-O-meter로 75$^{\circ}C$에서 60분간 흡진법으로 하였다. 미처리 시료 및 처리시료는 모두 xenon 램프에 80시간 동안 노출되었으며, 자외선 조사 전후 시료의 역학적 특성은 KES-F시스템을 사용하여 측정하였다. 본 연구의 결과는 다음과 같이 요약할 수 있다. 자외선 흡수제 처리는 처리 농도에 상관없이 면직물의 선형인장성(LT), 인장레질리언스(RT), 굽힘강성(B), 굽힘이력(2HB), 전단강성(G), 전단이력(2HG5), 표면마찰계수(MIU)등을 증가시켰으며 표면거칠기(SMD)는 감소시켰다. 압축특성은 처리농도의 영향을 받아서 고농도의 자외선 흡수제 처리는 압축특성을 감소시켰으며, 저농도의 처리는 압축특성을 증가시켰다. 자외 선 흡수제 처리는 처리농도에 상관없이 면직물의 fullness/softness를 유의하게 증가시키는 반면 stiffness, crispness및 anti-drape stiffness를 감소시켜서 가공포의 종합태(THV)는 가공 전에 비하여 저하하였다. 자외선 조사는 가공 전 면직물의 경우 B, 2HB, G, 2HG, 2HG5, LC를 감소시켰다. 자외선 조사는 처리농도와 상관없이 가공포의 WT, 굽힘특성 , 전단특성을 감소시켰으며, 저농도의 흡수제 처리포의 경우 SMD를 증가시켰으며, 고농도의 흡수제 처리포의 경우 SMD를 감소시켰다. 자외선 조사는 처리농도와 상관없이 가공포의fullness/softness, stiffness, anti-drape stiffness를 유의하게 감소시켜서 자외선 조사 전 보다 THV가 37% 저하하였고 미 가공포의 THV를 저하율보다는 저하가 낮았다. 자외선 흡수제 처리에 의해 면직물의 태는 가공 전보다 감소하지만, 자외선 흡수제 처리는 자외선 조사에 의한 태 감소율을 낮추는 데 유의 한 효과가 있다.
