  • The existing tunnel in urban area can be enlarged because of requirement of road-widening by traffic growth. The protector with rectangular cross section can be set up in the tunnel, which will be constructed for enlargement of width, to solve traffic jam around the tunnel. It is impossible to install the rockbolt in the lower area of tunnel due to a limited space between the protector and cutting surface. The objective of this study is to suggest the method of shotcrete thickness increase instead of rockbolt installation in the side wall of tunnel for the stability of tunnel. Numerical analysis was performed to evaluate displacement at the crown of tunnel, convergence of tunnel, and stress in shotcrete lining in 3-lane and 4-lane NATM tunnels enlarged from 2-lane conventional tunnel. There were three types of analysis condition, rockbolt installation, no rockbolt installation, and increase of shotcrete thickness without rockbolt in the side wall of tunnel. There was no difference on the displacement at the crown and the convergence of upper tunnel. In the lower tunnel, the convergence in case of no rockbolt installation was larger as maximum 1.3mm than that in case of rockbolt installation. The stress in shotcrete lining in case of no rockbolt installation was larger as maximum 1.3MPa than that in case of rockbolt installation. Numerical analysis was performed to compare the behavior of shotcrete with rockbolt with that of shotcrete, which its thickness was increased, without rockbolt. The shotcrete has an increase of 20%(250mm ${\rightarrow}$ 300mm, 4-lane tunnel)~25%(200mm ${\rightarrow}$ 250mm, 3-lane tunnel) in its thickness to reduce the stress in shotcrete lining. The behavior of shotcrete lining increased the shotcrete thickness by 20%~25% was similar to that of existing shotcrete lining with rockbolt.

  • Two different UHPCCs having different fiber lengths and volume fractions are considered to be applied to bridge decks. The objective of this study is to estimate cracking resistance of the two UHPCCs. The notched beam tests were performed with the UHPCCs, and the relationships between load and CMOD(Crack Mouth Opening Displacement) were obtained from the tests. The tensile stress and crack opening relationships optimally fitting the measured load-CMOD curves were found through the inverse analyses. The UHPCC with 2% volume fraction of 13 mm long fiber has lower fracture energy than the UHPCC with 0.5% and 1.0% volume fractions of 16.3 mm and 19.5 mm long fibers, respectively. It indicates that the latter UHPCC is more effective in uniformly distributing crack formation and reducing crack width.

  • This paper presents the FEM analysis results on the strength safety of LPG fuelling nozzle, which is composed of ball valve and long cylinder tube. For the strength safety analysis of LPG fuelling Nozzle, the gas pressure of 0.5~3.5MPa has been supplied to the ball valve and long cylinder tube bodies with the wall thickness of 1.7~3.5mm. The maximum von Mises stress of the ball valve with 1.7mm wall thickness is 25.4MPa for the supply gas pressure of 3.5MPa, which is 25.9% compared with that of the yield stress of the brass. And the maximum von Mises stress was 23.7MPa when a 3.5MPa gas pressure was applied to a long cylinder tube with a wall thickness of 1.7mm, which was 6.7% more safe than the ball valve which was analyzed under the same conditions. For the increased wall thickness, 2.0mm of the long cylinder tube, the maximum von Mises stress of 20.2MPa is 14.8% more safe compared with that of 1.7mm wall thickness of the same cylinder tube. Thus, the wall thickness of the ball valve and cylinder tube is recommended as an optimized thickness of 1.7~2.0mm for the strength safety of the LPG fuelling nozzle.

  • Purpose: This study was performed to compare the stress distribution pattern of abutment-fixture connection area using 3-dimensional finite element model analysis when 5 different implant systems which have internal connection. Materials and methods: For the analysis, a finite element model of implant was designed to locate at first molar area. Stress distribution was observed when vertical load of 200 N was applied at several points on the occlusal surfaces of the implants, including center, points 1.5 mm, 3.0 mm away from center and oblique load of 200 N was applied $30^{\circ}$ inclined to the implant axis. The finite element model was analyzed by using of 3G. Author (PlassoTech, California, USA). Results: The DAS tech implant (internal step with no taper) showed more favorable stress distribution than other internally connected implants. AS compare to the situations when the loading was applied within the boundary of implants and an oblique loading was applied, it showed higher equivalent stress and equivalent elastic strain when the loading was applied beyond the boundary of implants. Regardless of loading condition, the abutments showed higher equivalent stress and equivalent elastic strain than the fixtures. Conclusion: When the occlusal contact is afforded, the distribution of stress varies depending on the design of connection area and the location of loading. More favorable stress distribution is expected when the contact load was applied within the diameter of fixtures and the DAS tech implant (internal step with no tapering) has more benefits than the other design of internally connected implants.

  • The objective of this study was to analyse stress distribution of maxillary complex by use of face mask. The construction of the three-dimensional FEM model was based on the computed tomography(CT) scans of 13.5 years-old male subject. The CT image were digitized and converted to the finite element model by using the mimics program, with PATRAN. An anteriorly directed force of 500g was applied at the first premolar 45 degrees downwards to the FH plane and at the first molar 20 degrees downwards to the FH plane. When 45 degrees force was applied at maxillary first premolar, there were observed expansion at molar part and constriction at premolar part. The largest displacement was 0.00011mm in the x-axis. In the y-axis, anterior displacement observed generally 0.00030mm at maximum. In the z-axis, maxillary complex was displaced 0.00036 mm forward and downward. When 20 degrees force was applied at maxilla first molar, there were observed expansion at lateral nasal wall and constriction at molar part. The largest displacement was 0.001mm in the X-axis. In the Y-axis, anterior displacement observed generally 0.004mm at maximum. In the Z-axis, ANS was displaced upward and pterygoid complex was displaced downward. The largest displacement was 0.002mm.

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study was to investigate the effects of the insertion depth of an immediately loaded implant on the stress distribution of the surrounding bone and the micromovement of the implant using the three-dimensional finite element analysis. Materials and methods: A total of five bone models were constructed such that the implant platform was positioned at the levels of 0.00 mm, 0.25 mm, 0.50 mm, 0.75 mm, and 1.00 mm depth from the crest of the cortical bone. A frictional coefficient of 0.3 and the insertion torque of 35 Ncm were simulated on the interface between the implant and surrounding bone. A static load of 178 N was applied to the provisional prosthesis with a vertical load in the axial direction and an oblique load at $30^{\circ}$ with respect to the central axis of the implant, then a finite element analysis was performed. Results: The implant insertion depth significantly affected the stress distribution on the surrounding bone. The largest micromovement value of the implant was $39.34{\mu}m$. The oblique load contributed significantly to the stress distribution and micromovement in comparison to the vertical load. Conclusion: Increasing the implant insertion depth was advantageous in dispersing the concentrated stress in the cortical bone and did not significantly affect the micromovement associated with early osseointegration failure.
