Changes in salinity, hydraulic conductivity and penetration resistance in a reclaimed tidal land reclaimed in 1986 were studied. The salinity monitoring based on electrical conductivity of saturated extract, ECe, was conducted from 1994, when the land use for experimental crop production started after tile drainage. The site was abandoned since 1999. The hydraulic conductivity was measured by a sand fill auger hole method, and the resistance was measured with a dynamic penetrometer in situ. The averaged ECe in 1994 was $33.7dS\;m^{-1}$ ranging from 25.5 to $44.8dS\;m^{-1}$, and was decreased to $25.7dS\;m^{-1}$ with large range from 0.8 to $70.3dS\;m^{-1}$ before experiment was $1.89{\times}10^{-7}m\;s^{-1}$. It increased to $1.32{\times}10^6m\;s^{-1}$ in the top 20-cm soil with large variability, while it showed $3.44{\times}10^7m\;s^{-1}$ beneath the 20-cm soil depth with less variability. The penetration resistance of the soil ranged from 0.05 to 9.99MPa. The vertical distribution of penetration resistance indicated the hardened layer was developed at the depth of 20~40 cm where the hydraulic conductivity was sharply decreased.
Emergence and early growth changes of stratification condition of tea (Camellia sinensis) seeds were investigated in 7 treatments (control, pH 4, pH 10, 70% ethanol (EtOH), 10 mM H2O2, 100 mM H2O2, and physical shock (5.9 J)). Ethanol treatment was toxic and did not induce emergence. The emergence rate was 36.7% in the control, 26.7% under pH 10, 46.7% under pH 4, 48.3% under physical shock, 51.7% under 10 mM H2O2, and 65.0% under 100 mM H2O2 treatments. It was higher by approximately 178% in the H2O2 treatment as compared to the control. Plant height was 6.5 cm in the control, 6.6 cm under pH 10, 7.6 cm under pH 4, 7.8 cm under physical shock, 8.3 cm under 10 mM H2O2, and 9.1 cm under 100 mM H2O2 treatments. Leaf length and leaf width were also higher under the H2O2 treatment. Therefore, hydrogen peroxide treatment induced emergence and increased the uniformity of early growth.
Several microorganisms (esterase-producing group) were isolated by the solid selective media containing-naphtylacetate. Among them, strain 366M-9 having a high activity of cephalosporin-C deacetylase (CAH; EC 3.1.1.41) was selected. The strain 366M-9 was identified as Bacillus sphaericus on the basis of morphological, physiological, and biochemical characteristics. The production of CAH reached at maximum value after 32 hrs, when cultivated in the optimal medium containing dextrin 2.5%, peptone 2.5%, sodium chloride 0.5%, dipotassium phosphate 0.25%, ferrous sulfate 0.02%, and 7-ACA 0.1% at $30^{\circ}C$ with initial pH 6.0. The CAH was purified by 3 steps with ammonium sulfate precipitation, adsorption chromatography on hydroxyapatite column, and Sephadex G-200 gel chromatography. The final enzyme preparation was homogeneous as judged by the analysis of SDS-PAGE and HPLC. Optimum temperature and pH for CAH activity were $50{\circ}C$ and around 7.0, respectively. And the enzyme was stable at pH 6.0~8.0, up to $50^{\circ}C$. The Michaelis-Menten constants ($K_{m}$ ), $V_{max}$ were 0.87 mM and 1.22 unit/ml, respectively.

The seasonal variation of $^7Be$ and $^{137}Cs$ concentrations in airborne dust, precipitation and dry fallout collected at Daejeon during the period of 1998 - 1999 has been studied. The annual mean values of 7Be concentrations in airborne dust, precipitation and dry fallout were in the range of $3.80{\sim}4.29\;mBq\;m^{-3},\;1.25{\sim}1.67\;Bq\;l^{-1},\;19.7{\sim}22.3 MBq\;km^{-2}$, respectively. The annual mean values of $^{137}Cs$ concentrations in airborne dust, precipitation and dry fallout ranged $1.08{\sim}1.28{\mu}Bq\;m^{-3},\;0.44{\sim}2.66 mBq\;l^{-1}\;\;0.036{\sim}0.0455\;MBq\;km^{-2}$, respectively. While the concentrations of $^7Be$ and $^{137}Cs$ in airborne dust and dry fallout were relatively higher in the spring and autumn when the amount of dry fallout increased than in other season, their concentrations in precipitation were relatively lower in the summer when the rainfall increased. The total depositions of $^7Be$ and $^{137}Cs$ due to dry fallout and precipitation were in the range of $80.7{\sim}137MBq\;km^{-2}$ and $0.059{\sim}0.060MBq\;km^{-2}$, respectively. More than 80% of $^7Be$ deposition resulted from precipitation, whereas about 60% of $^{137}Cs$ deposition was due to dry fallout.

The analytical method of HPLC with the radial-flow electrochemical cell (RFEC) has been developed to determine doxorubicin, epirubicin, nogalamycin, daunorubicin and idarubicin simultaneously by employing a reversed-phase chromatography. Anthracyclines were detected at -0.74 V vs. a Ag/AgCl (0.01 M NaCl) reference electrode, a potential of diffusion current plateau in the mobile phase. At a $V_f$ of 1.0 mL/min doxorubicin, epirubicin, daunorubicin and idarubicin appeared at a retention time ($t_r$) of 6.4 min, 7.4 min, 12.7 min and 18.4 min, respectively, while at a $V_f$ of 0.6 mL/min, doxorubicin, epirubicin, nogalamycin, daunorubicin and idarubicin appeared at a $t_r$ of 9.9 min, 11.5 min, 13.5 min, 19.6 min and 28.7 min, respectively. The linearity between each anthracycline injected ($2.40{\times}10^{-7}M{\sim}1.42{\times}10^{-5}M$) and peak area (charge) was excellent with the square of the correlation coefficient ($R^2$) higher than 0.999. The detection limits were $1.0{\times}10^{-8}M{\sim}1.5{\times}10^{-7}M$ for the five anthracyclines. Within-day precision for the five anthracyclines were in reasonable relative standard deviations less than 3 % ($1.00{\times}10^{-6}M{\sim}1.42{\times}10^{-5}M$) except the lower concentrations less than $0.7{\mu}M$. Solid phase extractions of $1.00{\times}10^{-5}M$ epirubicin, $0.48{\times}10^{-5}M$ nogalamycin and $1.52{\times}10^{-5}M$ daunorubicin from human serum with a $C_{18}$ cartridge resulted in 97 %, 100 % and 90 % of recoveries, respectively.
The purpose of this study was to investigate a proper $Ca^{2+}\;:\;K^+$ ratio in nutrient solution to produce marjoram and oregano by hydroponics. Two herbs were grown for 40 days with the $Ca^{2+}\;:\;K^+$ ratio of 3.5;13, 4.5:11(standard herb's nutrient solution), 5.5:9 and 6.5:7mM${\cdot}L^{-1}$ of herb's nutrient solution developed by European Vegetable R &D Center, Belgium. The ratio of 5.5:9, and 6.5:7 mM${\cdot}L^{-1}$ showed better results in growth of marjoram than other treatments. Vitamin C contents and amounts of esential oil were the highest in the ratio of 5.5:9 and 6.5:7, respectively. Inoregano, the growth and vitamin C contents were the highest in the ratio of 5.5:9 and 6.5:7 mM${\cdot}L^{-1}$, respectively. The content (%) and amount (mg/plant) of essential oil were the highest in the ratio of 6.5:7mM${\cdot}L^{-1}$. These results indicated that 5.5:9 and 6.5:7 mM${\cdot}L^{-1}$were proper $Ca^{2+}\;:\;K^+$ ratio of nutrient solution of marjoram and oregano, respectively, by hydropoinics.

Conclusions : AR might have immunomodulatory effects on productions of NO, cytokines, and chemokines in LPS-stimulated RAW 264.7 mouse macrophages.
This study was performed to elucidate substrate specificity to the locust bean gum galactomannan by Trichoderma harzianum ${\beta}-mannanase$. The medium composition for enzyme production were determined 3% cellulose, 3% corn steep liquor, 1% $KH_2PO_4$, 0.2% $(NH_4){_2}SO_4$, and incubated for 115 hr at $28^{\circ}C$. The ${\beta}-mannanase$ exhibited maximum activity at pH 4.5 and $60^{\circ}C$. Locust bean gum galactomannan was hydrolyzed by the ${\beta}-mannanase$, and then hydrolysates separated by activated carbon column chromatography. The main hydrolysates were composed of D.P 4 and 7 galactosyl mannooligosaccharides by TLC. For the elucidate the structure of D.P 4 and 7 oligosaccharides, methylation analysis was performed. D.P 4 and 7 were identified as M-M-M-M and M-M-M-M-M (G- and M-represent ${\alpha-1,6-D-galactosidic\;and\;{\beta}-1,4-mannosidic$ linkages, respectively). //G-G To investigate the effects of locust bean gum galactosyl mannooligosaccharides on the in vitro growth of B. longum, B. bifidum, B. infantis, and B. breve, Bifidobacterium spp. were cultivated individually on the modified-MRS medium containing carbon source such as D.P 4 and 7 galactosyl mannooligosaccharides, respectively. B. longum grew up 3.4-fold and 4.3-fold more effectively by the replacement of D.P 4 and 7 galactosyl mannooligosaccharides as the carbon source in a comparasion of standard MRS.

This study was carried out to analyze the physicochemical properties of bovine milks, which were heated with LTLT, HTST, UHT pasteurization and UHT sterilization methods and to compare the heat intensity among the heating methods and samples. The mean HMF values per liter milk were measured as 0.66~1.62 $\mu$M (LTLT), 0.9~1.78$\mu$M (HTST), 3.53$\mu$M(UHT pasteurized) and 7.43~8.97$\mu$M (UHT sterilized) in samples, re- sportively. The available Iysine contents per 100ml milk showed 293.2 mg (Raw), 289.2~291.2 mg (LTLT), 298.4~292.4mg (HTST), 272.4~261.6mg (UHT pasteurized) and 279.0mg (UHT sterilized), respectively. The rates of whey protein denaturation were 9.5~11.4% (LTLT), 9.5~17.1% (HTST), 89.3~95% (UHT pas-tsterilized) and 62.7% (UHT sterilized), respectively. The contents of SH groups per g protein were determined as 2.86$\mu$M (Raw) and 2.95~3.15$\mu$M (LTLT), 3.08~3.18$\mu$M (HTST), 3.26~3.42$\mu$M (UHT Pasteurized) and 3. 36$\mu$M (UHT sterilized), respectively, The SS groups Contents per g protein were 28.93$\mu$M (Raw), 25.72~26. 51 $\mu$M (LTLT), 26.93~26.79$\mu$M (HTST), 23.65~23.04 $\mu$M (UHT pasteurized) and 24.69$\mu$M (UHT sterilized), respectively. The ascorbic acid contents per liter milk were measured 6.05mg (Raw), 1.47~1.65mg (LTLT), 2.50~3.85mg (HTST), 2.87~3.69mg (UHT pasteurized) and 4.50mg (UHT sterilized). The changes of some in-dices in milk samples depend on the heating temperature and time ; the HMF values, SH groups, whey protein denaturation rates increased, while the available lysine contents and SS groups decreased in LTLT, HTST, UHT pasteurized and UHT sterilized milks. No remarkable differences were found in heating indicators between LTLT and UHT milks.
