  • The lapped orthogonal transform(LOT) has been recently proposed to alleviate the blocking effects in transform coding. The LOT is known to provide an improved coding gain than the conventional transform. In this paper, we propose a prefilter approach to design the LOT bases with the view of maximizing the transform coding gain. Since the nonlinear phase basis is inappropriate to the image coding only the linear phase basis is considered in this paper. Our approach is mainly based on decomposing the transform matrix into the orthogonal matrix and the prefilter matrix. And by assuming that the input is the 1st order Markov source we design the prefilter matrix and the orthogonal matirx maximizing the transform coding gain. The computer simulation results show that the proposed LOT provides about 0.6~0.8 dB PSNR gain over the DCT and about 0.2~0.3 dB PSNR gain over the conventional LOT [7]. Also, the subjective test reveals that the proposed LOT shows less blocking effect than the DCT.

  • This paper proposes a new video compression algorithm using an adaptive transform that is adjusted depending on the frequency contents of the input signals. The adaptive transform is based on the warped discrete cosine transform (WDCT) which is shown to provide better performance than the DCT at high bit rates, when applied to JPEG compression scheme [1, 2, 3]. The WDCT is applied to the video compression in this paper, as a new feature in the H.264/AVC. The proposed method shows the coding gain over the H.264/AVC at high bit rates. The coding gain is shown over the 35dB PSNR quality, and the gain increases as the bit rate increases. (about 1.0dB at 45dB PSNR quality at maximum)

  • New formulas for McClellan transform parameters for the design of 2-D Zero-phase FIR fan filters are optimally derived under the integral squared error(ISE) criterion. By imposing the constraint that F(0,0)=coswc, where F($.$) is the McClellan transform and w is the cutoff frequency of the 1-D prototype filter, the ISE is directly minimized without modifying it and, as a consequence, closed-form formulas for the McClellan transform parameters are obtained. It is shows that these formulas lead to a very efficient design for 2-D zero-phase FIR fan filters.

  • In this paper, we propose a digital watermarking method using Multi-resolution Characteristic of 2D CAT (2D cellular automata transform). Firstly, we select the gateway values to generate a basis function and the basis function transforms images into cellular automata space. Then, we embed the random bit sequence as watermark in specific parts of cellular automata transform coefficients. The proposed method not only verifies higher fidelity than the existing method but also stronger stability on JPEG lossy compression, filtering, sharpening and noise through tests for robustness. Moreover, the proposed scheme allows only one 2D CAT basis function per gateway value. Since there are $2^{96}$ possible gateway values.

  • This paper proposes systolic array architectures for compuataion of the 1-D and 2-D discrete wavelet transform (DWT). The proposed systolic array for compuataion of the 1-D DWT consists of L processing element (PE) arrays, where the PE array denotes the systolic array for computation of the one level DWT. The proposed PE array computes only the product terms that are required for further computation and the outputs of low and high frequency filters are computed in alternate clock cycles. Therefore, the proposed architecuter can compute the low and high frequency outputs using a single architecture. The proposed systolic array for computation of the 2-D DWT consists of two systolic array architectures for comutation of the 1-D DWT and memory unit. The required time and hardware cost of the proposed systolic arrays are comparable to those of the conventional architectures. However, the conventional architectures need extra processing units whereas the proposed architectures fo not. The proposed architectures can be applied to subband decomposition by simply changing the filter coefficients.

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate whether a radiographic estimate of osseous fractal dimension and power spectrum of 2D discrete Fourier transform is useful in the characterization of structural changes in bone. Ten specimens of bone were decalcified in fresh 50 ml solutions of 0.1 N hydrochloric acid solution at cummulative timed periods of 0 and 90 minutes. and radiographed from 0 degree projection angle controlled by intraoral parelleling device. I performed one-dimensional variance. fractal analysis of bony profiles and 2D discrete Fourier transform. The results of this study indicate that variance and fractal dimension of scan line pixel intensities decreased significantly in decalcified groups but Fourier spectral analysis didn't discriminate well between control and decalcified specimens.

  • This paper proposes a novel postprocessing algorithm for reducing the blocking artifacts in low bit rate block-based transform coded images, that use adaptive neural network filter (NNF) in wavelet transform domain. n this algorithm, after performing a 2-level wavelet transform of the decompressed image, the existence of locking artifacts is determined using statistical characteristic of neighborhood blocks. And then a different one-dimensional (1-D) or 2-D NNF is used to reduce the locking artifacts according to the classified regions. That is, for HL and LH subbands regions with the blocking artifacts, a different 1-D NNF is used. And 2-D NNF is used in HH subband. Experimental results show that the proposed algorithm produced better results than those of conventional algorithms both subjectively and objectively.

  • In the present paper we study a new integral transform whose kernel involves the product of two H-functions of two complex variables. Next, we establish an inversion formula for this new transform. On account of very general nature of its kernel, several other integral transforms studies earlier by many research workers viz., Bose (1952), Mukherji (1962), Nigam (1963), Rathie (1965), Singh (1969), Mittal & Goel (1973), and Gupta, Garg & Kalla (1975), follow as its particular cases.

  • In the present paper the multiple generalized prolate spheroidal wave transform has been developed and its useful operational property has been discussed. As an application of this new transform we have considered the non-homogeneous cubical region. The source of heat generation lies inside it and is dependent upon temperature, and the conductivity is variable.

  • In this paper, we propose the gradual encryption method of image using LFSR(Linear Feedback Shift Register) and 2D CAT(Two-Dimensional Cellular Automata Transform). First, an LFSR is used to create a PN(pseudo noise) sequence, which is identical to the size of the original image. Then the created sequence goes through an XOR operation with the original image resulting to the first encrypted image. Next, the gateway value is set to produce a 2D CAT basis function. The created basis function multiplied with the first encrypted image produces the 2D CAT encrypted image which is the final output. Lastly, the stability analysis verifies that the proposed method holds a high encryption quality status.
