Purpose: The study was to analyze the correlation between kinetic visual acuity (KVA), visual acuity(static visual angle, SVA) and contrast sensitivity. Methods: Ninety-nine undergraduate students studying Ophthalmic Optics were fully corrected by the Topcon CV-3000 Phoropter. The contrast sensitivity was measured for the participants under the photopic condition ($100cd/m^2$) with Vector Vision CSV-1000E at 2.5 meter, while KVA was measured with KOWA AS-4A. The participants were classified into three groups L, M and H depending on the KVA (0.1~0.3, 0.31~0.6 and greater than 0.61, respectively) and were analyzed whether there was the correlation between the contrast sensitivity, visual acuity and refractive error. Results: The KVA was correlated with the contrast sensitivity for 3 cpd (r=0.26), for 6 cpd (r=0.48), for 12 cpd (r=0.38) and 18 cpd (r=0.47). Except for the low frequency of 3 cpd, they all were higher than the one of the SVA and the KVA (r = -0.37). The contrast sensitivity for 3, 6, 12 and 18 cpd was 59.41, 92.22, 38.41 and 14.39 in the group L, respectively. The contrast sensitivity in the group M was 66.03, 108.78, 53.51 and 19.20 and the one in the group H was 70.90, 146.10, 62.90 and 25.33 for 3, 6, 12 and 18 cpd, respectively. Conclusions: The correlation of the contrast sensitivity and the KVA was higher than the one of the contrast sensitivity and the SVA. It can be assumed that the contrast sensitivity will be high if the KVA is high, except for the case for low spatial frequency.
Coronary artery calcium scores(CACS) has been used as surrogate marker for coronary atherosclerosis. We evaluated 1042 patients who visited the Department of Health Promotion Center in Chonnam National University Hospital and had a test of the CACS from January 2006, to December 2008. This study was performed to evaluate the relation of the CACS with Cadiovascular disease(CVD) risk factors and FRS. CACS and FRS was a significant difference between the group whose calcium score was 0 and the group whose calcium scores were 1 in case of men 2.38(95% CI, 1.83-3.11), women 2.12(95% CI, 1.03-4.35). The age-and sex-adjusted odds ratios for predictor of CVD risk factors to women with age was 1.10(95% CI, 1.06-1.15), HDL-cholesterol was 2.38(95% CI, 1.04-5.44), Fasting plasma glucose was 2.89(95% CI, 1.16-7.21), to men with age was 1.11(95% CI, 1.08-1.14), LDL-cholesterol was 2.12(95% CI, 1.28-3.50), gamma-GTP was 1.73(95% CI, 1.17-2.55), Diabetes mellitus medication was 3.92(95% CI, 1.73-8.89). The CACS seems to be a siginificant factor to evaluate the CVD risk factors.
This study evaluated the effect of Candida norvegensis (C. norvegensis) viable yeast culture on in vitro ruminal fermentation of oat straw. Ruminal fluid was mixed with buffer solution (1:2) and anaerobically incubated with or without yeast at $39^{\circ}C$ for 0, 4, 8, 16, and 24 h. A fully randomized design was used. There was a decrease in lactic acid (quadratic, p = 0.01), pH, (quadratic, p = 0.02), and yeasts counts (linear, p<0.01) across fermentation times. However, in vitro dry matter disappearance (IVDMD) and ammonia-N increased across fermentation times (quadratic; p<0.01 and p<0.02, respectively). Addition of yeast cells caused a decrease in pH values compared over all fermentation times (p<0.01), and lactic acid decreased at 12 h (p = 0.05). Meanwhile, yeast counts increased (p = 0.01) at 12 h. C. norvegensis increased ammonia-N at 4, 8, 12, and 24 h (p<0.01), and IVDMD of oat straw increased at 8, 12, and 24 h (p<0.01) of fermentation. Yeast cells increased acetate (p<0.01), propionate (p<0.03), and butyrate (p<0.03) at 8 h, while valeriate and isovaleriate increased at 8, 12, and 24 h (p<0.01). The yeast did not affect cellulolytic bacteria (p = 0.05), but cellulolytic fungi increased at 4 and 8 h (p<0.01), whereas production of methane decreased (p<0.01) at 8 h. It is concluded that addition of C. norvegensis to in vitro oat straw fermentation increased ruminal fermentation parameters as well as microbial growth with reduction of methane production. Additionally, yeast inoculum also improved IVDMD.
Structures of hematite(${\alpha}$-Fe2O3), Ba-ferrite(BaFe12O19) and Zn2Y(Ba2Zn2Fe12O22) were studied by powder X-ray diffraction(XRD) method. Powder XRD patterns of the ferrites were analyzed with the Rietveld method, and the final refined R-factors were RWP<0.01 and RI<0.03. The lattice parameters refined with hexagonal crystal system were a=5.0342${\AA}$, c=13.746${\AA}$ for hematite, a=5.8928${\AA}$, c=23.201${\AA}$ for Ba-ferrite, and a=5.8763${\AA}$, c=43.567${\AA}$ for Zn2Y. In the hematite, the oxygen parameter is 0.3072 and the Fe-O distances in FeO6octahedron are 1.941${\AA}$ and 2.118${\AA}$, close to the single crystal data of Blake et al.. In the Ba-ferrite, the Fe atom in oxygen trigonal bipyramid is displaced 0.155${\AA}$ away from the BaO3 mirror plane into 4e position. In the Zn2Y, 75% of Zn is located at the oxygen terahedral site in S-block.

All-optical clock recovery from a 10 Gb/s RZ signal has been demonstrated using an actively mode-locked figure-eight laser incorporating a semiconductor optical amplifier in the loop-mirror scheme. Optical pulses with 10 ps pulse width were modulated by a LiNb03 external modulator at $2^{23}-1$ PRES and injected into the clock recovery circuit to extract optical pulses with 12 ps width. Regeneration of the original bit pattern has been accomplished by modulating the recovered clock with the same modulator, and no power penalty was observed at $10^{11}$..
The mechanical properties of specialty cellulose fiber reinforced concrete and the contribution of specialty cellulose fiber to drying shrinkage crack reduction potential of concrete and theirs evaluation are presented in this paper. The effects of differing fiber volume fraction(0.03%, 0.06%, 0.08%, 0.1%, 0.15%, 0.2%) were studied. The results of tests of the specialty cellulose fiber reinforced concrete were compared with plain and polypropylene fiber reinforced concrete. Flexural performance(flexural strength and flexural toughness) test results indicated that specialty cellulose fiber reinforcement showed an ability to increase the flexural performance of normal- and high- strength concrete(as compared to plain and polypropylene fiber reinforced concrete). Optimum specialty cellulose fiber reinforced concrete were obtianed using 0.08% fiber volume fraction. Drying shrinkage cracking test results confirmed specialty cellulose fibers are effective in reducing the drying shrinkage cracking of normal and high-strength concrete(as compared to popylene fiber reinforced concrete).
It has been researched the relationship between deposition velocity and factors which could affect the deposition phenomena and deposition velocity also has been estimated fer several land-use types. The typical deposition velocities are complex functions of surface types, atmospheric stabilities, friction velocities, air pollutants and so on. The canopy resistance is major contribution to the model's total resistance for O₃. Canopy wetness is also an important factor to calculate deposition velocity. We considered the canopy wetness as canopy water content(CWC) in our Model. But, it is not easy to observe CWC over each land-use types. In this study, we use CWC observed by EMEFS(CANADA Environment Service, 1988) to examine the influence of CWC in estimation of 03 dry deposition velocity(V/sub d/) in summertime. The value of O₃ V/sub d/ range 0.2 ∼ 0.7 cm s/sup -1/ on dry surface and 0.01 ∼ 0.35 cm s/sup -1/ on wet surface in daytime.
The strain KKI isolated from soil contaminated with polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons was identified as Pseundomonas sp. based on analyses by MIDI and Biolog Identification System. Cellular and physiological responses of strain KKI to two-ring polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbon, naphthalene were evaluated using radiorespirometry, PLFAs and sequence analysis of Rieske-type iron sulfur center of dioxygenase. KKI was found to be able to rapidly mineralize naphthalene. Notably, KKI cells pregrown on phenanthrene were able to mineralize naphthalene much more rapidly than naphthalenepregrown cells. The total cellular fatty acids of KKI were comprised of eleven C-even and two C-odd fatty acids (fatty acids < 0.2% in abundance were not considered in this calculation). Lipids 12:0 2OH, 12:03 OH, 16:0, 18:1 6c, 18:0 increased for naphthalene-exposed cells, while lipids 18:1 7c1/15:0 ism 2OH, 17:0 cyclo, 18:1 7c, 19:0 cyclo decreased. Data from Northern hybridization using a naphthalene dixoygenase gene fragment cloned out from KKI as a probe provided the information that naphthalene dioxygenase gene was more highly expressed in cells grown on phenanthrene than naphthalene.
