  • IEEE 802.11i is an amendment to the original IEEE 802.11/b,a,g standard specifying security mechanism by stipulating RSNA for tighter security. The RSNA uses TKIP(Temporal Key Integrity Protocol) and CCMP(Counter with CBC-MAC Protocol) instead of old-fashioned WEP(Wired Equivalent Privacy) for data encryption. This paper describes a design of a communication security engine for IEEE 802.11i MAC layer. The design includes WEP and TKIP modules based on the RC4 encryption algorithm, and CCMP module based on the AES encryption algorism. The WEP module suffices for compatibility with the IEEE 802.11 b,a,g MAC layer. The CCMP module has about 816.7Mbps throughput at 134MHz, hence it satisfies maximum 600Mbps data rate described in the IEEE 802.11n specifications. We propose a pipelined AES-CCMP cipher core architecture, which has lower hardware cost than existing AES cores, because CBC mode and CTR mode operate at the same time.

  • Handover in IEEE 802.11 requires repeated authentication and key exchange procedures, which are an obstacle to seamless services of wireless LAM. We propose a fast authentication and key exchange mechanism using IEEE 802.11f. Especially, by proposing a modified version of the 4-way handshake of IEEE 802.11i, we solve the perfect forward secrecy problem that arises when the pre-authentication is adopted. The scheme can be implemented only using the Context Block of IEEE 802.11f and the 4-way handshake of IEEE 802.11i without involving authentications server's interaction or non-standard behavior between access points. Our scheme is applicable to devices not supporting the us-authentication of IEEE 802.11i and also, it can substitute the pre-authentication when the pre-authentication is failed.

  • The I-V characteristics of $ZnO-Pr_6O_{11}-CoO-Dy_2O_3$ based varistors were investigated in the $Pr_6O_{11}/CoO$ composition ratio range of 0.5/0.5 to 1.0/1.0 and sintering temperature range of 1300 to $1350^{\circ}C$ as the basic study to develop the advanced $Pr_6O_{11}$-based ZnO varistors. All varistors except for $Pr_6O_{11}$/CoO = 0.5/1.0 exhibited the best I-V characteristics at $1350^{\circ}C$. However, the varistors with $Pr_6O_{11}$/CoO= 0.5/1.0 exhibited the best I-V characteristics at $1350^{\circ}C$. The varistors with $Pr_6O_{11}$/CoO= 0.5/1.0 of all varistors exhibited the best I-V characteristics, which the nonlinear exponent is 36.9 and the leakage current is 7.6 ${\mu}A$ Therefore, it was estimated that ZnO-$Pr_6O_{11}-CoO-Dy_2O_3$ ceramics with $Pr_6O_{11}$/CoO= 0.5/1.0 will be usefully used as varistor materials in the future.

  • This paper proposes a session key distribution scheme on non-interactive key distribution algorithm of Identity-based cryptography in V2I of VANET. In the current VANET, IEEE 802.11i is used to provide secure data communication between the vehicle and infrastructure. However, since the 4-way handshake procedure reply when the vehicle handover to another RSU/AP, IEEE 802.11i increases the communication overhead and latency. The proposed scheme using non-interactive key distribution algorithm of Identity-based cryptography provided session key generation and exchange without message exchange and reduced communication overhead and latency than the IEEE 802.11i.

  • In this paper, a 4-way Handshake protocol in the IEEE 802.11i is analyzed in terms of both security and reliability. It is shown that the 4-way Handshake protocol breaks down under some conditions due to a MIC (message integrity code) failure, and a solution to fix it is proposed. It is also proposed that a new 2-way Handshake protocol which is more secure and efficient than the 4-way Handshake protocol.

  • This paper suggests a low-complexity frame timing synchronization system for IEEE802.11a wireless LAN systems. The proposed timing synchronization scheme has been implemented by correlating the received OFDM preamble with quantized coefficients composed of {0, ${\pm}$2$^{0}$ , ${\pm}$2$^1$‥‥‥ ${\pm}$2$^{i}$ ), where i is an integer number. The 2$^{i}$ -valued coefficients enable the multipliers in the correlation system to be simplified to i-bit shifters. So we can design the correlation system using shifters instead of multipliers. We estimate the performance of the proposed scheme in comparison with conventional systems under the AWGN and Rayleigh fading channels. In this paper we show that the complexity can be reduced by 90% while still maintaining a performance comparable to that of the conventional system.

  • In this paper, the I/Q mismatch problem between the transmission line and antenna switch is solved by a new CPW matching circuit for a VoWLAN terminal with 54 Mbps communication speed through the IEEE 802.11 b/g CCK/OFDM. I/Q performances with the new matching circuit are analyzed and improved by the output spectrum mask, the characteristics of the EVM(Error Vector Magnitude) due to the nonlinear CCK/OFDM demodulation data, and receiver's sensitivity.

  • Wireless LAN (WLAN) is type of wireless service that has higher data transmission than current cellular networks. The usage is continually increasing. There are a lot of vulnerabilities in wireless network, due to the properties of the wireless environment, regardless of its popularity. IEEE announced the 802.11i security standard to solve these problems. The vulnerable point of messages used in the process of key distribution for 802.11i makes the target node attacked lose memory through continuous messages and blocks the legitimate WLAN service. In this paper, we proposed new schemes to solve this problem and compared our proposals with the current process. The proposed protocol eliminates the memory exhaustion problem on the client side by using methods for reduction of memory usage.
