  • The characteristics of a river flow analysis are significant for river maintenance plan. At the present time, HEC-RAS, 1-Dimensional Numerical Analysis Model, is mainly applied to analyze the character of a river flow. The shape of a river is somewhat in longitudinal linear form. It was suspected that the usage of 1-dimensional numerical analysis model is more economical. Development of numerical analysis models and computers are possible to calculate large volume. Hence, it is possible to adapt the analysis of the key stations by 2-dimensional numerical analysis model. The limitation of 1-Dimensional Numerical Analysis Model is that it is hard to evaluate structure affection of numerical simulation by energy loss coefficient at river structure analyzing. When adaptation of the 2-dimensional numerical analysis model in river structure ensues, it takes more objective analyzing than 1-dimensional numerical analysis model for flow affection by river structure. 2-dimensional numerical analysis model consults with the different structure position of hydraulic characteristics and different water depth of shape and scope in vertical flow. 1-dimensional numerical analysis model is possible to simulate with only energy loss coefficient for sudden river section changing, sudden waterway changing by curved. 2-dimensional numerical analysis model use original geographical features. So the model removes technical subjectivity of faulty judgment. It is an objective analysis.

  • We developed 1- and 2-dimensional fluid model for the analysis of a capacitively coupled Ar RF(Radio Frequency) glow discharge. This discharge is in pure Ar gas at the pressure 100[mTorr], frequency 13.56[MHz] and voltage amplitude 120[V}. This model is based on the equations of continuity and electron energy conservation coupled with Poison equation. 2-dimensional model is simulated on the condition of GEC(Gaseous Electronic Conference cell). The geometry of the discharge chamber and the electrodes used in the model is cylindrically simmetric; tow cylinders for the electrodes are surrounded by the grounded chamber. It is shown that 1-dimensional model is very useful on the understanding of RF glow discharge property and of the movement of charged particles. 2-dimensional model predicts off-axis maximum structure as in the experiments and has the results in qualitatively and quantitatively good agreement with the experiments. Effects of dc self-bias voltage, guard ring and reactor geometry is discussed.

  • Rotary kiln furnace is one of the most widely used reactors in industrial field. In this paper, 0-dimensional heat and mass balance for direct coal flame rotary kiln was performed preferentially, then a simplified 1-dimensional model was developed based on 0-dimensional analysis data to proceed additional thermal analysis. Compared the results with the currently operating rotary kiln data to validate 1-dimensional model. Through this procedure, it can help to derive fundamental idea for design and operation of rotary kiln.

  • In this study, the general characteristics, and theories of cochlear concerning with hearing are examined. Also the digital method is studied in order to analyze with microcomputer on the model equation of basiliar membrane in the cochlear derived from 3-dimensional rectangular block model which is studied by Boer. The method is illustrated for the amplitude characteristics of basiliar momtrane wave velocity. The results obtained are as follows; 1. In the magnitude characteristics, the velocity gradually increases from the stapes, shows the maximum magnitude, and then rapidly decreases to the Helicotrema. 2. The characteristics of 3-dimensional model is located between 1-and 2- dimensional models in the velocity characteristics coefficients, magnitude characteristics, and the pattern of 2-dimensional model shoves the different features from the 1-dimensional and 3-dimensional rectangular block model. 3. In the 3-dimensional rectangular block model, the characteristics of the waveform and the maximum resonant point are same whether Z(X) is linear or nonlinear.

  • Clinically, proximal bone resorption in the femur is frequently seen postoperatively on the follow up XI-rays after total hip replacement (THR). We developed the finite element model of cementless THR. The model is two dimensional side plate model, whereby the three dimensional structural integrity of the bone can be accounted for by a separate two dimensional mesh, a side plate. The subject of this article is the development and application of this two dimensional side plate FEM to study the reverse effect of the various degree of bone resorption of femur after THR. The results of this study indicates that 1) two dimensional side plate model is good and simple alternative to complex three dimensional model and 2) the severity of the proximal bone resorption has the effect of more increasing stress on the cortex at the level of femoral stem tip.

  • Purpose : This study was to evaluate the influence of slice thickness of computed tomography (CT) and rapid protyping (RP) type on the accuracy of 3-dimensional medical model. Materials and Methods: Transaxial CT data of human dry skull were taken from multi-detector spiral CT. Slice thickness were 1, 2, 3 and 4 mm respectively. Three-dimensional image model reconstruction using 3-D visualization medical software (V-works /sup TM/ 3.0) and RP model fabrications were followed. 2-RP models were 3D printing (Z402, Z Corp., Burlington, USA) and Stereolithographic Apparatus model. Linear measurements of anatomical landmarks on dry skull, 3-D image model, and 2-RP models were done and compared according to slice thickness and RP model type. Results: There were relative error percentage in absolute value of 0.97, 1.98,3.83 between linear measurements of dry skull and image models of 1, 2, 3 mm slice thickness respectively. There was relative error percentage in absolute value of 0.79 between linear measurements of dry skull and SLA model. There was relative error difference in absolute value of 2.52 between linear measurements of dry skull and 3D printing model. Conclusion: These results indicated that 3-dimensional image model of thin slice thickness and stereolithographic RP model showed relative high accuracy.

  • When the existing polder levee was constructed, the river's numerical analysis decided the bank raise by applying the planned flood stage or by using the result from the sectional 1st dimensional numerical analysis. But, it was presented that there is a limitation in the 1st dimensional value analysis when the structure like the polder levee obstructs the special shaped running water flow. Therefore, in order to verify the numerical value applicability when the polder levee is constructed, this report compared each other through the 1st and 2nd dimensional numerical analysis and the mathematical principle model laboratory. In case of the polder levee construction through the numerical analysis and the mathematical principle model laboratory, it was decided that there was no big problem in the 1st dimensional numerical analysis applied design, considering the uncertainty of mathematical principle analysis though the first dimensional numerical analysis was calculated a little bigger than the second. But, after construction, it was found that the water level deviation of the 1st, 2nd occurred biggest at the place where the flow was divided into two. Also, as a result of comparing the 1st, 2nd dimensional numerical analysis with the mathematical principle model laboratory, it was confirmed that the 1st numerical analysis applied design decreased the modal safety largely, as the left side water level was calculated smaller more than 0.5m in case of the 1st dimensional numerical analysis.

  • Two-dimensional and three-dimensional structures of tidal currents on southeastern waters of Korea off Kyungnam coast were investigated via a series of numerical models based on dynamic principles. With a two-dimensional tidal model, tidal regimes of major eight tidal constituents (M$_2$, S$_2$, K$_1$, O$_1$, N$_2$, K$_2$, P$_1$, Q$_1$) were computed. Model results showed that the computed results were in good agreement with coastal observations. On the basis of these results the model was further improved to compute three-dimensional structure of tidal current in inner Jinhai and Masan Bay regions of the model area where severe pollutions occur due to red tide by combination of the previous two-dimensional model and inner three-dimensional model. For this work, three-dimensional Galerkin-Spectral model and two-dimensional depth-integrated model are dynamically combined by the method presented by Davies (1980). In addition to the previous work by Davies, the advective term and quadratic bottom friction term are included in present Three-dimensional numerical model. The computed results of M$_2$ tidal current ellipses with respect to depth showed general agreements with those of current observations by KORDI (1990).

  • We discuss a model4-dimensional Friedmann cosmology which may have evolved from a model of 4+D dimensions which admits spontaneous compactification of D dimensions (or N-dimensional variants of the Brans-Dicke (BD) theory). The BD parameter appearing in dimensional reduction is negative $-1<\omega<0$ (for the N-dimensional variants of the BD theory, $-1.5{\leq}{\omega})$. We find that if there had been inflationary transtion to the standard big-bang model, the Universe can undergoe a polar-type expansion during when the gravitational coupling becomes negative. The unique feature is that for the negative w, the density parameter of the post-inflationary Universe falls in a range 0<0<1 even if the Universe is geometrically flat (k = 0).

  • A 2-dimensional numerical sediment transport model has been developed by using erosion rates observed by SEDFLUME. The model un boundary-fitted coordinate can reduce inaccuracy of sediment model with accurate erosion data. Suspended transport and bed load transport are included in the model together. The model results gave good agreement with particle size distributions in 1-d channel and was more accurate than that of HIDAS of 1-dimensional model. The model applied to an enlarging channel to check model performance in 2-dimensional domain. Bed coarsening reduced erosion and deposition.
