The 1,5-sigmatropic rearrangements involving group (X) migration in ${\omega}$(X)-substituted 1,3-pentadiene, $C^1H_2=C^2H-C^3H=C^4H-C^5H_2-X$, where X = H, $CH_3$, $BH_2$, $NH_2$, OH or F, are investigated MO theoretically using the AM1 method. For the migrating groups without lone pair electrons, X = H, $CH_3$, or $BH_2$, the suprafacial pathway is favored, whereas for the migrating groups with lone pair electrons participating in the TS, $X=NH_2$, OH, or F, the antarafacial pathway is favored electronically. However excessive steric inhibition in the antarafacial TS for $X=NH_2$ leads to subjacent orbital controlled suprafacial process. The antarafacial shift of F is relatively disfavored compared to that of OH due to smaller orbital overlap and larger interfrontier energy gap in the TS.

The electrode kinetic parameters at the Pd/0.5 M LiOH electrolyte interface have been qualitatively studied using the phase-shift method. The phase shift $(\phi)$ depends on both the cathode potential (E>0) and frequency (f), and $\theta$ is inversely proportional to the fractional surface coverage $\theta$. At an intermediate frequency (10 Hz), the phase-shift profile $(\phi\;vs.\;E)$ can be related to the fractional surface coverage $(\theta\;vs.\;E)$. The phase-shift method can be used to estimate or plot the Frumkin adsorption isotherm. The rate (r) of change of the free energy of adsorption with $({\theta})$ is 22.3 kJ/mol. The equilibrium constant (K) for adsorption and the standard free energy $({\Delta}G_{\theta})$ of the adsorbed hydrogen atom $(H_{ads})$ are $3.7\times10^{-3}{\Delta}G_{\theta}>-8.4kJ/mol$, respectively. For 1$0.38>\theta>0$, the energy liberation or the exothermic reaction for hydrogen adsorption at the Pd cathode can be occurred. The electrode kinetic parameters $(r,\;K,\;{\Delta}G_{\theta}$ depend on the fractional surface coverage $({\theta})$ or the phase shift $(\phi)$.
Plasma membrane hyperpolarization associated with activation of $Ca^{2+}$-activated $K^+$ channels plays an important role in sperm capacitation during fertilization. Although Slo3 (slowpoke homologue 3), together with the auxiliary ${\gamma}^2$-subunit, LRRC52 (leucine-rich-repeat-containing 52), is known to mediate the pH-sensitive, sperm-specific $K^+$ current KSper in mice, the molecular identity of this channel in human sperm remains controversial. In this study, we tested the classical $BK_{Ca}$ activators, NS1619 and LDD175, on human Slo3, heterologously expressed in HEK293 cells together with its functional interacting ${\gamma}^2$ subunit, hLRRC52. As previously reported, Slo3 $K^+$ current was unaffected by iberiotoxin or 4-aminopyridine, but was inhibited by ~50% by 20 mM TEA. Extracellular alkalinization potentiated hSlo3 $K^+$ current, and internal alkalinization and $Ca^{2+}$ elevation induced a leftward shift its activation voltage. NS1619, which acts intracellularly to modulate hSlo1 gating, attenuated hSlo3 $K^+$ currents, whereas LDD175 increased this current and induced membrane potential hyperpolarization. LDD175-induced potentiation was not associated with a change in the half-activation voltage at different intracellular pHs (pH 7.3 and pH 8.0) in the absence of intracellular $Ca^{2+}$. In contrast, elevation of intracellular $Ca^{2+}$ dramatically enhanced the LDD175-induced leftward shift in the half-activation potential of hSlo3. Therefore, the mechanism of action does not involve pH-dependent modulation of hSlo3 gating; instead, LDD175 may modulate $Ca^{2+}$-dependent activation of hSlo3. Thus, LDD175 potentially activates native KSper and may induce membrane hyperpolarization-associated hyperactivation in human sperm.
Low-priced hydrogen is required in petrochemical industry for producing low-sulfur oil, and upgrading low-grade crude oil since environmental regulations have been reinforced. Steel industry can produce hydrogen from by-product gases such as Blast Furnace Gas (BFG), Coke Oven Gas (COG), and Linze Donawitz Gas (LDG) with water gas shift (WGS) reaction by catalysis. In this study, we optimized conditions for WGS reaction with commercial catalysts by BFG and LDG. In particular, the influence on activity of gas-hourly-space-velocity, and $H_2O/CO$ ratios at different temperatures were investigated. As a result, 99.9%, and 97% CO conversion were showed with BFG, and LDG respectively under $350^{\circ}C$ High Temperature Shift (HTS), $200^{\circ}C$ Low Temperature Shift (LTS), 3.0 of $H_2O/CO$, and $1500h^{-1}$ of GHSV. Furthermore, 99.9% CO conversion lasted for 250 hours with BFG as feed gas.
The interaction of cadmium (II) ion with quercetin and (+)-catechin was investigated in aqueous solution at various pH. The flavonoid/cadmium stochiometries for cadmium (II) binding to quercetin and (+)-catechin have been determined by UV-vis spectroscopy. 1 : 1 Cd (II)-Flavonoid complex had a maximum absorbance and showed the bathochromic shift of the long-wavelength band of the UV-vis spectra in the alkaline pH, that occurs upon complexation, due to a ligandto-metal charge transfer. These results suggest that Cd (II)-flavonoid complex has the optimal condition of chelation in 0.2 M $NH_3$ - 0.2 M $NH_4Cl$ (pH 8.0) solution.
Inclusion complexation of 1,7,21,27-tetraaza[7.1.7.1]paracyclophane (CPM 55) with 2,7-dihydroxynaphthalene (2,7-DHN) or 1,3-dihydroxynaphthalene (1,3-DHN) in pD 1.17 $DCl-D_2O$ solution was investigated by $^1H$ nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy (NMR) using 4,4'-dimethylaminodiphenylmethane (ACM 11) as an acyclic analog of CPM 55. In CPM 55-naphthalene derivative complex, alkyl protons located in the cavity of CPM 55 were shown to be subjected to anisotropic shielding and protons of naphthalene moiety shifted remarkably to upfield. However, in ACM 11-naphthalene derivative systems, chemical shifts for protons of both DHN compounds were not significant. The remarkable chemical shift changes suggested that the naphthalene moiety of 2,7-DHN or 1,3-DHN was included in the hydrophobic cavity of CPM 55 in aqueous solution. From the continuous variation plots of induced chemical shifts of 2,7-DHN, it was found that 2,7-DHN was included in the cavity of CPM 55 at 1:1 molar stoichiometry. Both computer simulation of a inclusion complex and strong upfield chemical shift changes of 2,7-DHN protons supported the conformation of pseudoaxial inclusion as the presumed geometry of the host-guest complex.

To confirm the applicability of the water gas shift reaction for the production of high purity hydrogen for petroleum cokes, an unutilized low grade resource, Cu/ZnO/MgO/Al2O3 (CZMA), catalyst was prepared using the co-precipitation method. The prepared catalyst was analyzed using BET and H2-TPR. Catalyst reactivity tests were compared and analyzed in two cases: a single LTS reaction from syngas containing a high concentration of CO, and an LTS reaction immediately after the syngas passed through a HTS reaction without condensation of steam. Reaction characteristics in accordance with steam/CO ratio, flow rate, and temperature were confirmed under both conditions. When the converted low concentration of CO and steam were immediately injected into the LTS, the CO conversion was rather low in most conditions despite the presence of large amounts of steam. In addition, because the influence of the steam/CO ratio, temperature, and flow rate was significant, additional analysis was required to determine the optimal operating conditions. Meanwhile, carbon deposition or activity degradation of the catalyst did not appear under high CO concentration, and high CO conversion was exhibited in most cases. In conclusion, it was confirmed that when the Cu/ZnO/MgO/Al2O3 catalyst and the appropriate operating conditions were applied to the syngas composition containing a high concentration of CO, the high concentration of CO could be converted in sufficient amounts into CO2 by applying a single LTS reaction.
13C, 15N, and 29Si NMR chemical shifts have been computed for selected X-substituted silatranes (X=Cl, F, H, CH3) using Gauge-Including Atomic Orbitals (GIAO) at the Hartree-Fock level of theory. The isotropic 13C chemical shifts are largely insensitive to substituent-induced structural changes. In this study, the isotropic 13C chemical shifts between 1-methyl- and 1-hydrogensilatranes by GIAO-SCF calculation at the HF/6-31G level are very similar. But the results of 1-chloro- and 1-fluorosilatranes are about 4 ppm different from the experimental values. In contrast, the isotropic 15N and 29Si chemical shifts and the chemical shielding tensors are quite sensitive to substituent-induced structural changes. These trends are consistent with those of the experiment. The isotropic 15N chemical shift demonstrates a very clear correlation with Si-N distance. But in case of 29Si the correlations are not as clean as for the 15N chemical shift; the calculated variation in the 29Si chemical shift is much larger.
In this work, the effect of low-temperature dehydration of a poly(styrene-co-styrenesulfonic acid) (PSSA) membrane was investigated by differential scanning calorimetry, fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR), electron magnetic resonancespectroscopy (EMR), and $^1H$- and $^{13}C$ solid-state nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy. These analyses were performed at room temperature for powdered PSSA specimens with and without dehydration and the following key observations were made. First, FT-IR analysis showed that low-temperature dehydration not only transformed the [${SO_3}^-{\cdots}H^+$] ionic pair in the non-hydrated PSSA to an $SO_3H$ group, but also induced the formation of -C=C- double bonds in the dehydrated PSSA. Second, the ${-SO_3}^{\bullet}$ radical was unambiguously identified by EMR spectroscopy. Third, H-abstraction was detected by $^1H$ magic-angle spinning spectroscopy. Finally, an unexpected color shift from white for the non-hydrated PSSA to a yellowish brown for the dehydrated sample was observed. In order to explain these experimental results, it was proposed that the formation of the intermediate hydrogen ($H^{\bullet}$) or hydroxyl radical ($HO^{\bullet}$) species was initiated by the dehydration process. The sespecies attacked the $SO_3H$ group and the tertiary proton at the ${\alpha}-carbon$, resulting in the formation of $-SO^{\bullet}$ radicals and -C=C- double bonds, which correlated with the color shift in the dehydrated PSSA sample. The semechanisms are useful for understanding the simultaneous loss of an aromatic ring and -SO- groups in the PSSA fuel cell membrane.
