우리나라에 남아 있는 목조건축문화재들은 다양한 생물학적 요인에 의해 손상된다. 이 중 흰개미는 목재 내부를 손상시켜 문화재의 구조적 안정성과 진정성에 악영향을 미친다. 국내 전 지역에서 목조건축문화재의 흰개미 피해가 발생하고 있으며, 기후변화로 인해 그 피해는 더욱 증가할 것으로 추정된다. 문화재의 흰개미 피해는 돌이킬 수 없으므로 예방보존이 매우 중요하다. 이에 본 논문은 목조건축문화재의 효과적인 흰개미 예방을 위해 공간적 통합 흰개미 관리(AW-ITM)의 문화재 적용을 위한 기초자료를 제시하고자 수행되었다. 먼저 국내 목조건축문화재의 입지 특성을 이해하기 위해, 공간정보시스템(GIS)을 이용하여 국가지정 목조건축문화재(국보, 보물) 182건의 인접한 산림과의 거리, 주변 산림 면적을 분석하였다. 또한 2003~2020년 실시된 국가지정문화재 방충사업 내역과, 종합적 흰개미 관리(ITM)의 구성요소 4가지에 따라 국내 문화재 흰개미 방제의 특성을 확인하였다. 이를 바탕으로 문화재와 주변 공간을 세 영역으로 구분하고 각 영역별로 적합한 흰개미 방제 방안을 제안하였다. 또한 목조건축문화재들의 입지(도심, 외곽, 산림)와 건물 수량(단일, 복합)에 따라 6가지 유형으로 구분하여 각 유형별 흰개미 방제 영역을 구분하였다. 이 연구에서 제시된 공간적 종합 방제의 개념은 최근 문화재청에서 발표한 '목조문화재 흰개미 방제 종합 방제대책' 등에서 주변 환경 개선 등으로 일부 반영해 적용되고 있다. 이에 공간적 통합 흰개미 관리(AW-ITM)의 적용 또한 일부 대상에 시범적으로 적용한 뒤 그 결과를 면밀히 분석하여 문화재 보존관리 정책 수립에 반영할 필요가 있다.

Termites are important sub-baits of natural ecosystems and are beneficial insects that are natural decomposer. However, the building materials used by human beings can not coexist with each other on timber which is a termite food. As of 2017, due to fertile forests, warming, and the spread of boilers, termite damage to timber construction is increasingly occurring day by day. Currently, Korea utilizes fumigation, Beit system, preserved wood, etc. of chemical products as termite control measures. But in the case of control measures, timber that has already been eaten by termites can not serve as a structural material and must be repaired. On the other hand, in the case of overseas, Scale of damage to termites the influence on the construction is also large, and a lot of research has been carried out on the prevention methods. In this thesis, investigate such foreign control measures, Would like to suggest a suitable method for Korea.

It has been reported frequently that damage to underground electric power cable was brought about, due to attack by Insect such as termite (white-ant) and by rodent such as rat, in tropical and semitropical areas. Among these cable damages, we are likely to describe the damage to cable by termites as causing the severe trouble in cable operation and to solve this trouble with termite-proof method regarded as the most effective and economical one. This report covers our experiences of manufacturing the cable for anti-termite purpose and its intrinsic properties in cable operation.
