In addition, it has been found from this study that the comical essence of animations was the laughing that expanded the recognition and awareness for the entity to be revived, by suggesting the following: 1) the fact that the laughing would be unexpected and it would stimulate the imagination of audience in unprecedented situations in which the method of creation would be unthinkable and thereby the laughing occurred would endow audience with thought, feeling and sense etc. that would not have been perceived so far; and 2) furthermore, the ideal world through grotesque expressions. Meanwhile, unlike the general preconception that animations would be considered one of the popular art forms with strong comical elements, it has been noted that there have been a very few Korean animations with strong comical elements. • Although there has been a significant technological and representational achievements in domestic animation industry since the beginning of the 21th century due to the high expectation and boost in production, domestic long and short film animations have been less favored compared to foreign animations because they are less entertaining. For small scale productions including students, it is easier to create short film animations due to small budget and short time frame. In addition, as shown in Pixar animation studios case, production of short film animations can lead to success in production of long film animations from better ideas and technology improvements. This research studies factors that contribute to entertainment and humor of short film animation by examining Pixar's short film animations based on Henri Bergson's comedy factors, which are shape, movement, situation and language, and personality. The most noticeable fact is that the humor by situation is found in all short films. Comedy aspect shown in the form of character's internal characteristic is something that has to be considered from the beginning of character design. Contribution of language is minor compared to movement or gesture, which are more often used to cause humor. Finally, character's personality has to be clear and decided beforehand in order to create comedy situations. After studying various short film animations, I found out that the more successfully humorous an animation is, the more it uses various combinations of the above mentioned comedy factors. By fully analyzing and adopting commercially and artistically successful Pixar's short film animations as the benchmark, planning and production of domestic short film animations can perform entertainment role both domestically and globally.

  • In animation, 'laughter' is an important factor for the fun. Dreamworks' animation is a successful popular animation. It has four series and spin-off animations, and settled as a successful case that created fun with strategic use of parody throughout the productions. Most preceding studies on this animation have focused on its humor, parody, and satire. However, not many studies have discussed its independent comedy as a piece of animation that satisfies the needs of public. This study considered that viewers' desire to watch an animation comes from their fantasies to discuss the comedy of based on its animated characters. Animated characters communicate with the public with wits that ignore the rules of reality. The characters that do not exist in reality are created and animated to turn the world of reality upside down. The comedy in comes from the entertaining deformation of the society's fixed ideas and prejudices. It is a fun variation of the ideology behind fairy tales created by the Disney animations to challenge Disney in the animation market in reality, and twisted the world of fairy tales in the story to quench the thirst of the public. 'Shrek', a monstrous character, stands in the center of the story. A monstrous character that always played an anti-role has become the main character to break the rule of fairy tales. This is the subjectivation of anti-character. Second, it is a new anti-character with an exaggerated and distorted body. Lord Farquad, who looks abject compared to the monstrous character for a person with so much power and ambition, brings laughter. Third, it is the variation of various characters from fairy tales. The conventional fairy tale characters, both animals and non-living things, come out of the box and appear as humorous characters that bring life to the story. uses comedy characters in the process of reinterpreting the fixed ideas, prejudices, and ideologies of the real world created by fairy tales. I hope that it helps Korean animations establish a successful format for creating characters that bring life to the stories.

  • The significance of this research lies in the analysis of that appears in the comedy . It also aims to propose conceptual and analytical costume designs that emphasize the formal aspects of play by reflecting on the comical elements simultaneously. , the subject of this study, was played on November 12, 2009 at the Small Theater (Dalohreum Theater) in the National Theater as a celebration of the 40th anniversary of Suwon Women's College. The costumes were designed by this researcher and were produced in collaboration with the Creative Performances Research Institute (Suwon Women's College). The comic elements were categorized into deconstruction, deviation and unexpectedness according to previous studies on the humorous nature of comedy, and their aesthetic meanings were applied to the costumes. The designs that reflect the comic elements are as follows. The costume design reflecting deconstruction is a way that disassembles and recombines constructive aspects of clothing. It consists of seam margins outside or just left disassembled without sewing, dismantling the boundary of outerwear and underwear. The costume design reflects deviation because reformed shapes of collars, the variation of length and closure of skirts deviate from the traditional style. These are designed by distorting traditional designs with deviation and transcend of tradition. The costume designs the reflect unexpectedness integrates both tradition and the contemporary, and use materials of diversity and heterogeneity, and these are composed of external formats the result from incongruity. Because comic elements are metaphysical concepts that carry meanings that are difficult to define according to the country and period, it is required to analyze, organize and utilize their characteristics and meanings of each period. Since this study analyzed the comical elements of a play and applied them to costume design, it is hoped that a follow-up study of analytical costume design is be done, and that more diverse and more creative costume designs are in the next generation.

  • Pansori has both the features of drama and music. In 19th century, prime time of pansori, it had balance of the features between drama and music. But after the late 19th century, pansori has lost the features of drama, and it has been changed into a music centered art performance. This is the phenomenon came from that the upper class accepted and dominated the pansori which had been a performance art of the lower class. The Korean upper class people tend to disdain drama, but to revere music. Nerremsae is dramatic action and ballim is musical gesture in pansori. In 19th century, pansori had plenty of nerremsae, which provided a elaborative symbolic system after the conventional rule of drama. However current pansori actors use only ballim except nerreumsae. Chuimsae like 'ulssigu' is the way to participate in pansori by audience. The actor provides the space for the audience to fill it after inducement by drummer. Through the chuimsae, actor, drummer, and audience share the sympathetic emotional experiences. However the audience in these days do not do chuimsae, but do applause like in western dramas. In western dramas, distinction between tragedy and comedy is relatively clear. The tragedy is constantly tragedy, and the comedy is also constantly comedy. However joy and sorrow are coexisted in Korean pansori. These two contradictory emotions are collided and produce a new strong emotion in a pansori. This is one of very important feature of pansori. Even though each of tragedy and comedy reveals the only one side of life, pansori comprehensively reveals a total human life. However these strong emotions have been much weakened nowadays. Currently pansori has been much declined. For restoration of pansori, it is necessary to revive the drama side in pansori performances.

  • With the growth of media platforms and fierce competition in the media market, there have been focus on cross media storytelling, a remediation of content already proven successful to another type of medium. In particular, webtoons have emerged as being successful source media, and this study analyzes how the webtoon 's narrative is expanded and transformed in the remediation process into TV drama. The results showed that, the webtoon , which was targeted at a relatively more specific audience, objectively described stories of the life and hardships of an office worker through a contractual employee at a trading company navigating work life based on strategies of Baduk; while the TV drama version, which aims to appeal to a broader audience, strengthened popular narratives with topics of social issues such as 'hardships of the non-permanent employee', 'sexual discrimination and sexual harassment in the workplace', 'difficulties of a working mom', and 'romance between new colleagues'. In addition, in order to create dramatic enjoyment, the drama's storytelling strategy incorporated conflicts by creating confrontational relationships among good and evil characters, and added humanism and comedic effect.
