Construction Lean Process Development and Application for Field Productivity Improvement (건설 현장 생산성 향상을 위한 Lean 프로세스 개발과 적용에 대한 연구)

  • Practical and efficient application of lean construction, which has been proposed as an alternative to the limitations of traditional construction management methods, was developed to facilitate application on site and improve productivity through the fusion of traditional construction management methods. The concepts of Lean Time and Lean Cycle Time, which are the principles of lean construction, were introduced to eliminate waste and smooth flow production and pursuit of perfection, and the goal of establishing and improving the criteria for measurement and improvement was established and the information collection template was configured and applied to ensure reliability of measurement and analysis. Based on this, the project feasibility, reliability, and continuous improvement process were applied to the Field case to verify its effectiveness.

  • Radio Frequency Identification(RFID) technology, which replace BAR CODE technology that has been widely utilizing in the field of the manufacturing industry for a long time, has been proven in the whole industries including national defense, transportation, and construction as well as manufacturing industry. Recently, with this trend, researches for adapting the RFID technology have been attempting continually centering on the architectural project in the construction industry. However, those researches are mainly focusing on the experimental utilization such as simple activity and material management. To solve these issues, this study demonstrated methodologies for adapting the RFID technology by the construction steps aiming to analyze cycle time of five types of construction process to the NATM method of tunneling work. Besides, the application of RFID technology in civil engineering work was verified by demonstrating the suggested methodology to actual sites. Therefore, it is expected that the suggested methodology will be utilized for predicting the progress rate and establishing of follow-up work plans, and the site applicability of the RFID technology will be expanded to the civil engineering projects.

  • As construction projects have been extremely enormous, complex and special, risk factors have been increased consistently. Therefore, it is very important to identify and cope with the uncertain risk factors in such building constructions for successful project accomplishment. The purpose of this research is to approach practical affairs directly and show detail alternatives of risk factors by extracting the risk factors throughout construction process of curtain wall that is largely influenced on cost, quality, schedule ,safety and following activity. Also, extracting these risk factors make it possible to analyze quantitative risk and decide the priority raking of risk factors. Especially, this research is aimed to provide efficient management of scheduling risk that can make the risk minimize to practical workers who have different degree of knowledge and experience to the construction cite when the risk brings out suddenly.

  • The resource-based estimating based on standard unit price of construction work was estimated by multiplying the price per standard unit of work on the amount of labor, material, equipment use time. However, limitation of the resource-based estimating way does not adequately reflect the actual transactions prices. On the subject of water tunnel excavation as a new attempt to overcome these limitations, this study analyzed productivity by work type into cutter inspection/ exchange, TBM maintenance, TBM inspection/refueling, subsequent installations, tramcar, operating change, a cave-underground reinforcement / rock reinforcement, safety / meetings and analyzed actual cost estimating and the net advance rate based on this analysis result. Actual cost estimating calculation approach presented in this study can be utilized as a useful tool to predict the actual cost estimating in the TBM water tunnels field.

  • Despite the significant benefits of BIM (Building Information Modeling), it is not being vitalized for the facilities that are designed based on the horizontal and vertical alignments because of the lack of flexibility in manipulating surface models generated based on alignments. Alignment-based design produces a surface model in one piece through the definition of the typical cross-section along the alignment. Therefore, linking these alignment-based 3D surface models, that are not modularized and difficult to partition, to the required attribute information is very difficult This paper presents design of a flexible BIM technology suitable for the alignment-based civil infrastructure by providing the partitioning functionality for surface models, the contents library for cross-sectional design components, and the attribute information along with the critical functionalities needed for the design, construction and maintenance of alignment-based civil infrastructure.
