  • The joint of prefabricated steel grid composite deck is composed of concrete shear key and high-tension bolts. The flexural and shear strength of the joint were experimentally evaluated only by the bending and push-out test of the joint element. In this study the lateral load transfer behavior of the joint in deck structure system is experimentally evaluated. Several decks connected by the joint are prefabricated and loaded centrically and eccentrically. In the case of centrically loaded specimens, the analysis results show that for the same loading step the rotation angle of the joint with 4 high-tension bolts is larger than the case of the joint with 9 high-tension bolts. Consequently, flexural stiffness of deck and lateral load transfer decrease in the case of specimen with 4 high-tension bolts. But, in the case of eccentrically loaded specimens, it is found that there are no significant differences in the load transfer behavior. The further analysis results about the structural behavior of the joint show that lateral load transfer can be restricted by the load bearing capacity of the joint as well as punching shear strength of the slab. Furthermore, considering that high-tension bolts in the joint didn't reach to the yielding condition until the punching shear failure, increase in the number of high-tension bolts from 4 to 9 has a greater effect on the flexural stiffness of the joint and deck system than the strength of them.

  • An experimental research has been performed to evaluate the load transfer capacity for the planar joints between existing and new slab in an apartment remodelling constructions expecially for enlarging the interior space. Post-installed dowel bars were used as a joint connector. The existing slabs were obtained from the existing apartment housing which will be demolished, and were retrofitted with carbon fiber plate. Test results showed that the planar joints with post-installed dowel bars behaved in full composite modes until ultimate capacity of test specimens, so sufficient ultimate and serviceability performance are confirmed.

  • The behavior of continuously reinforced concrete pavement (CRCP) and the effect of the steel ratio on the behavior under moving wheel loads were investigated in this study. The CRCP sections having different steel ratios of 0.6, 0.7, and 0.8% were considered to evaluate the load transfer efficiency (LTE) at transverse cracks and to investigate the strains in CRCP when the system is subjected to moving vehicle loads. The LTEs were obtained by conducting the falling weight deflectometer (FWD) tests and the tests were performed at three different times of a day to find the curling effect due to the daily temperature changes in CRCP. The strains in the concrete slab and the bond braker layer of the CRCP system under moving vehicle loads were obtained using the embedded strain gages. The results of this study show that the LTEs at transverse cracks are very high and not affected by the time of testing and the steel ratio. The strains in CRCP under vehicle loads become smaller as the vehicle speed increases or as the wandering distance increases; however, the strains are not clearly affected by the steel ratio.

  • In General, post-installed dowel bars are used as a shear connector to ensure the composite actions between new slabs and existing slabs in an apartment remodelling constructions expecially for enlarging the interior space outward the existing buildings. But, it has not been checked that the connection performance between existing and new slab is satisfactory not only for the structural safety condition but also the for serviceability and dwelling requirements. In this research, an experimental works were presented to evaluate the load transfer capacity for the planar joints between existing and new slab. The existing slabs were obtained from the existing apartment housing which will be demolished. • Cross-beam in the existing temporary bridge system is usually installed to prevent the lateral-torsional buckling of girders and to promote the construction efficiency. However, most of this cross-beams are connected to the girder web by bolts, and therefore, gravitational load resisting capacity of the cross-beams are negligibly small. In recent years, new temporary bridge system, in which the cross-beams and girders are connected to resist the external loads as a unit, was developed. In this paper, we present the experimental and analytical study results pertaining to the structural behavior and load carrying capacity of new temporary bridge system. From the results of study, it was found that the continuous cross-beam increased the flexural rigidity and reduced the maximum flexural stress in the girder. In addition, it was also found that the new temporary bridge system developed is more appropriate for the application in the long-span temporary bridge.

  • The objective of BMP( Barge Mounted Plant) project is to construct plants on mooring floating structures at sea. To analyze the pile behavior under mooring dolphins, generally, axial or lateral behavior of soil-pile system is evaluated by using a nonlinear subgrade reaction method which models the pile as a structural element and the soil as series of nonlinear springs along the depth. As a result, load-displacement curves at pile head can be solved by finite difference method and the equivalent stiffness of bottom boundaries of dolphin structure is evaluated. In this study off-shore site investigation was performed on the marine area of Koje Island and axial and lateral load transfer curves of the ground were modeled with depth. The subgrade reaction analysis was performed for piles under axial or lateral loadings, and the required penetration depth and section of the pile were determined. Subsequently, the spring boundaries under the dolphin structure could be modeled from the calculated load-displacement curve and then the dynamic response of the dolphin structure was analyzed reasonably by considering ground conditions. The analysis considering the stiffness of the soil-pile system has resulted in larger displacement amplitudes than those for rigid foundations. Furthermore, moment distributions of the casing were dependent on the soil-pile system so that deformable foundation induces the larger moment of top section of casing and the smaller moment of pile head.

  • Recently, High-rise building are irregular-shaped to be city landmarks and function as vertical cities to enable the efficient use of land. 3T (Twisted, Tilted & Tapered) designs are being suggested for irregular buildings and studies to develop new structural system have been actively made to satisfy slender shape ratio. In diagrid system, not only gravity load but also lateral load is delivered based on the triangular shape of diagrid, so most of columns are eliminated. Because shearing force is delivered by the axial behavior (tensile/compressive) of diagrid to minimize shearing deformation, the system is more applicable to irregular buildings than existing system where shearing force is delivered by the columns. In this study, the process of selecting connection details and the structural safety of the selected details are verified using the finite element analysis with focus given to the construction overview of the Cyclone Tower. However, the relersed methods of stress concentration are suggested and the performance of stress concentration relieves that it's suggested for the appropriate cap plate thickness and extended length.
