  • Sulfonated poly (arylene ether sulfone) (SPAES) random copolymers have merits such as high proton conductivity, relatively low production cost, and thermochemical resistance when applied as polymer electrolyte membranes for fuel cells. However, it is difficult to directly employ SPAES copolymers into practical fuel cell membrane applications owing to their low chemical stability and dimensional instability under harsh operation conditions. A plausible solution is to impregnate SPAES copolymers into support films (e.g., electrospun polyimide support) with interconnected pore structures and high thermochemical toughness. In this study, a SPAES copolymer with a swivel group, which induces high free volume for fast ion transport, is chosen as ionomers to prepare pore-filling membranes (PFMs). The feasibility of the resulting membranes is evaluated via membrane characterizations.

  • MWNTs have been widely investigated due to unique properties of such as good electrical conductivity and thermal stability in polymer composites industries. This paper established the procedure to fabricate PMMA/MWNT composites by a modular intermeshing co-rotating twin screw extruder with L/D ratio of 42. The electrical properties of PMMA/MWNT composites with different content of MWNT have been investigated. A sheet resistance percolation was observed at 4 wt% of MWNT for the melt processed composites. Sheet resistance of PMMA/MWNT composite film containing 4 wt% of MWNT was nearby $10^4{\Omega}/sq$ and this shows the possibility of potential application to EMI (Electronic Magnetic Interference) shielding materials. The characteristics of composites were analyzed by TGA, DSC, and SEM. In addition, MFI (Melt Flow Index) has been measured to analyze the rheological property.

  • It is essential to predict the coil temperature under over load and over speed conditions for reliability in high speed low torque surface mounted PM synchronous motors(SPM). In the present study, the losses and coil temperature are measured under rated condition and calculated under over speed and over load conditions in the three different motors with 35PN440, 25PN250 and 15HTH1000. The heat transfer modeling has been performed based on acquired losses and temperature. The difference of coil temperature between heat transfer modeling and experiment is less than 6.4% under no load, over speed and over load conditions. Subsequently, the coil temperature of the motor with 15HTH1000 is 84.4% of the coil temperature of the motor with 35PN440 when speed is 0.9 and load is 3.0. The output of motor with 15HTH1000 is 85.2% greater than the output of the motor with 35PN440 when the dimensionless coil temperature is 1.0.
