축류 홴은 다른 종류보다 소음이 크기 때문에, 저소음 축류 홴의 BPF(Blade Passing Frequency; 날개 통과 주파수)가 갖는 소음 특성을 연구하여야 한다.

  • The aerodynamic performance of axial flow fans for outdoor unit of air-conditioner is investigated by numerical and experimental approaches in this study. The pressure drop and volumetric flow rate are compared each other in several different conditions and fan speeds. It is shown that the predicted fan performances are quite well matched with the experimental results. It is also shown that the curvature of the fan arc and hub height have significant influences on the flow distribution after hub. By the results of this study, it can be suggested that several ways to improve the aerodynamic performance of the axial flow fan can be found using the numerical analysis.

  • This paper presents the application of airfoil impeller for enhancement of aerodynamic performance of a high speed centrifugal fan. Three airfoil impellers are proposed, considering the maximum thickness and the location of maximum thickness of the airfoil. C4 airfoil thickness distribution is applied to the three airfoil impellers. The impellers are evaluated using CFD (computational fluid dynamics) and suction power test. From the results, it is confirmed that flow separations on the pressure side of the impeller blades and the pressure side of diffuser blades are reduced when airfoil blade is applied to the impellers. It is also confirmed that with the centrifugal fan having airfoil impellers, there is an increase in fan efficiency by approximately 3% and reduction in specific sound level by approximately 1.3 dB(A).

  • Axial fan without static blades requires the duct as a guidance for unskewed inflows. This work examined the geometric effects of a duct guided the in and out flows through an impeller. The present methodologies are computational predictions with parallel work by experimental validation. Several different positions of a rotor in a duct are proposed for plausible models of a rotor inside a duct. The optimum axial position of an impeller in a duct is found at the #4 model where the impeller lies on the inlet edge of a circular duct. The model shows a wider inlet area. The result of computational prediction is in good agreement with experiment measurement.

  • The prediction method of the performance and aerodynamic noise from a sirocco fan was developed and compared with measured data. To predict the performance of the sirocco fan, the well-known slip coefficients and various loss models were tested and applied to forward curved sirocco impellers. Using loss models proposed for both impeller and casing, the predicted performance characteristics were in good agreement with measured ones by an ANSI test plenum. Various scaling models for aerodynamic noise from the sirocco fan were evaluated and tested against measured power levels in terms of flow coefficient. It was shown that the turbulent broadband sound power from the sirocco fan can be modeled successfully by trailing edge noise.

  • Axial fans are widely used in household electrical appliances due to their easy usage and high flow rate for cooling capacity. At the same time, the noise generated by these fans causes one of serious problems. In order to calculate the noise of a fan, we develop the software IFD - Intranet Fans Design. With this software we can design, analysis the performance and predict the noise of fan. The prediction model, which allowed the calculation of acoustic pressure at the blade passing frequency and it's higher harmonic frequencies, has been developed by Lowson's equation. To calculate the unsteady resultant force of the blade, time-marching free-wake method is used. The objective of this study is to calculate the effects of number of blades, rotating velocity, and sweep angle on the noise of fan..

  • The aerodynamic performance of an indoor room air-conditioner using a cross-flow fan is strongly influenced by the various design factors of a rear-guider and a stabilizer. The purpose of this study is to investigate the effects of a rear-guider and a stabilizer on the aerodynamic performance in the maximum flowrate range of a cross-flow fan. The design factors considered in this study are a rear-guider clearance, a stabilizer cutoff clearance, and a stabilizer setup angle, respectively. Aerodynamic performances including maximum flowrate and power show the biggest magnitude distribution in the case of $45^{\circ}$, the stabilizer setup angle as well as nearly similar magnitude distribution regardless of the stabilizer cutoff clearances. Moreover, the more a rear-guider clearance increases, the more the magnitude of maximum flowrate and power increases.

  • Aerodynamic analysis of a low-voltage electric motor has been performed with various inlet vent shapes. Effects of inlet vent shape on aerodynamic performance of a motor cooling fan have been investigated numerically using three-dimensional Reynolds-averaged Navier-Stokes equations. The k-${\varepsilon}$ turbulence model was used for the analysis of turbulence. The finite volume method and unstructured tetrahedral grids were used in the numerical analysis. Optimal grid system in the computational domain was selected through a grid-dependency test. From the results of the flow analysis, considerable energy loss by flow separation was observed in the flow passage. It was found that mass flow rate through the cooling fan in the low-voltage motor can be increased by modifying the inlet vent shape. And, some inlet vent shapes were suggested to improve the aerodynamic performance of the motor cooling fan.
